Love those lines. I also used a cabletie to fix a 25cm piece of garden hose to the clamcleat. This way the line has more support and doesn‘t wiggle around or twist so much.
Great commentary. Not many can shoot commentary while doing something like windsurfing. Look at Chris Evans on Top Gear. He could drive the cars and present a tv show but not at the same time. Impressive.
liberty reminds me of north sails airback harness from around 2007, seat but with huge backsupport and you could adjust the support with a small airpump. pure luxury !
Is it normal to have the lines so close together on the boom these days? What is the benefit of that? We always had them about a foot apart back in the day.
Thanks Ben, love the info and the blasting. Can you easily move the harnesses on the boom? I've adjustable ones (Gaastra) already but they are a pain in the cheeks to move on the boom after I put my weight into them. Thanks!
Nice vid Ben! Especially since I will surf the Défi too. My comments on these harnesslines: 1) when I crash the front attachement moves forward on the boom. Not a big deal, but in very strong winds better to adjust them before waterstarting. 2) Need quite some force to make the line not slipping. Die you experience the line loosen while surfing? 3) in very strong winds the lines twisted and then I could not hook in…
Interesting.. thanks for the feedback. So far I've not crashed with the lines so can't comment on number 1... 2. slipping.. I'll check that. I didn't notice it in this session. Although 'Lisa Windsurfing' did message me to say the NEW harness lines have different rope to the ones I have. 3. yes I could see that happening as all the stiffness is in one side and the other side just rope. So when a longer setting I can see the rope side will move around.
@@WindsurfingTV Liberty is a terrible compromise. Make a hipharness of your existing waist harness instead. It is sooo much better. Load transfer exactly on Trochante Mayor. Its a like a sportscar. You can thank me later :) :) :)
I'm jealous of the fact that you have wind. We are having a pretty windless April in northern California this year. As for SDM vs. RDM masts the RDM masts flex more compared to SDM masts and that flex becomes more noticeable the longer the mast. The longer RDM masts have a noodle type feel; much less direct for me. My personal feel for SDM vs. RDM is that in a short slalom race I would use the more direct SDM mast. However, for the Defi depending on your fitness level the softer feeling RDM might be the call. If you are not in Defi shape that direct feeling SDM mast will take a toll over such a long, gusty race.
Spot on with the rdm to sdm feel. With my Ezzy 2 cam 6.5 to 8.5m I felt no difference going from sdm to rdm. But with no cam 6m I felt the extra give in the luff tube, especially going upwind.
I'm going to try to sew my own modified harness. I will make an attachment to my ion carbon waist harness that is essentially shorts with some straps. I like the look of the liberty and what it does but to provide proper downforce and make sure it doesn't ride at all I think some nylon shorts would be dope. Is the liberty the solution and end game or can it still ride up a bit?
Oh Ben, lovely review! Ive bought the same harnesslines after I saw Antoine A. on a video. Only the plastic piece holding the rope close to the clamp flew of after first day... Btw, have you tried mobile phoning while surfing?
With these lines and in longer position, do you ride less at a right angle from your board? The video may have distorted the real angle but it looks like you were, at time, closer to a 60 degrees angle than 90 degrees.
I didn't actually notice the speed difference. I use them more for control and not getting lifted. So max speed wouldn't be the metric I would test. But it could be interesting to see
I'll do a proper test soon... as that was just the first session. Let me use them for a bit and I'll give you an update. But yes you can move them up and down. But maybe they get tighter the more you use them. Lets see
interestingly when I first used it, I did feel that. In that session it felt different. Like I say in the video I think it's softened up and I had it sitting a bit higher than when I first used it. I'm going to keep testing it. I need to do a back to back test with the low waist.
I don't understand why you on a slalom board with a free-ride sail. I enjoy so much a 2 cam even on the smaller sails going straight. So much more relaxed
Ben: “Let me just concentrate for a second…. Yeah!!!! Yoooo!!!!” 😊
Warm weather & flat water...my jealousy is beyond measuring. Great video again.
very cool video. Comment on driving impressions, describe the material and windsurf. All at once and in such great conditions. I'm just jealous✌️😎👍

Living the dream. Great video. Keep em coming!

❤I enjoyed watching this great video 👍

Jeez, Ben, you've been doing this long enough to know you never change more than one thing at a time when tuning.

da Blasting Baldrick of windsurfing!👌
Already in Caribbean since 10 yrs ....

Yes good question. I also move the position on the boom during navigation.

Great vid. I struggle to keep my weight on long lines. Feel like im reaching forward to the boom to keep pressure in them, stop bouncing out in chop.
yeah.. I depends on how you are used to sailing. Shorter lines have some advantages in certain conditions.

Where is this??
I’ve bought those lines and they are amazing, no more short lines for foiling!!

Ben Proffitt ist King of the windsurfing
As always great video. I reckon you could talk with whales underwater. You’re very good at being conversational with your camera.
Great video and good luck in the Defi! Was there much speed difference with the longer lines?

What is the spot?
Hey Ben, which brand are the lines? I'd like to give em a chance..
‘Lisa Windsurfing’ is the brand
Is it easy to wriggle those harness lines up and down the boom when you are on the water if you haven’t got the balance point right?
I'll do a proper test soon... as that was just the first session. Let me use them for a bit and I'll give you an update. But yes you can move them up and down. But maybe they get tighter the more you use them. Lets see
Did you do 32knt with 14knt wind? Thanks for a great video
no.. the forecast was 14knots.. but it was a lot windier. I was on a 6m no cam sail fully powered
25kts wind? What’s your weight Ben? I cannot go 30kts with my 6,6 free race 😢 and 85kg and 112l board… in 20kts of wind…
@@FrancoisTCS I'm not sure.. I guess 20-25knots.. there were some good gusts! The 32.02 knots was the 2 second max
Flex response is the phrase you are looking for with SDM masts for slalom I’d say Benny. 😊
That's the one.. :)
Does the new harness lift you up in the gusts as a seat harness does?
interestingly when I first used it, I did feel that. In that session it felt different. Like I say in the video I think it's softened up and I had it sitting a bit higher than when I first used it.
I'm going to keep testing it. I need to do a back to back test with the low waist.
I think once you have used it for a short time you can read the gusts and not get lifted but will go faster
Im using theb F2 freeride pro harnass and realy dont get why not everyone uses them. Its a low waist/high seat harness and its best of both worlds :D
I just googled it.. its a full on harness that. Leg straps and a full back.. would be interested to try it.
Powerful weed you say…
Dutchies will be queuing up!! haha
It was 420 day after all.
I don't understand why you on a slalom board with a free-ride sail. I enjoy so much a 2 cam even on the smaller sails going straight. So much more relaxed
Tie yourself a small monkey's fist knot for the harness line.
Don't you get bum slap with longer harness lines?
well with them on FULL long.. yes! Like I said they are meant for foiling!
Looks like weed fins are in your future.
first like😝
haha.. on it!!
Why do you use a wetsuit if you don't fall off ? 😂👍🫡
