Actually, slovene language is also hard to learn because it often has many different variations for the same word.. and that is because of different dialects. E.g. the word 'tukaj' (here) .. tukaj, tu, tuki, tukej, tule, tle, kle, tlele, tukejle... all the same meaning. 😁 so hats off to you, for learning our language. And dont forget that, when you understand slovene, you understand 50% of all balkan countries xD

I'm impressed. Those were some hard words, I would have trouble with some of them myself. If you want to do a part two, I would suggest : faznbrifer, (used to check if an electric vire is live), čerkla (church), rukzak or ruzak (backpack), barhažine (pants in a primorski dialect), čumna (Kumin as it is called in Bohinj), ...
That's awesome! I'm from Austria and really had to laugh about these Germanisms. Like ashtray, it's totally recognisable, spelled "Aschenbecher" (the 'sch' so typically German of course) and pronounced almost 100% the same. Even better is tissue, easily recognisable as a Southern-Bavarian dialect like the speak in Styria and Carinthia. "Taschentuch" (lit. "pocket tissue) would be the Standard German word, but "Schniaztiachl" is so cute. So nice to see this and I'm glad I learnt some Slovene! :)

Back in the 80s no internet and really hard to find language learning material... he used to torture me to pronounce žvižgati and vžgalice among other choice words. We still laugh (and I still have difficulty saying these words)!

For foreign, non-Slovenian speakers, the pronunciation of the Slovenian name for a bumble-bee, which is čmrlj, is considered as (one of) the hardest (of them all), i.e. for a single word. At least on a first sight, or better say try. ;-) Althoug it's a short word, it is packed with consonants only, of which the first one is even a sibilant (btw. Slovenian language has more precise or distinctive term for it, namely "šumnik").
"Super!" (A rare Slovene word that's easy :-) I am in my 5th year of studying this most wonderful and baffling language of my ancestors. I love this video! I will share with my teacher and classmates at the Slovenian Hall in San Francisco.

This is hilarious but I feel you. I'm at the beginning of this road, just recently moved to Slovenia, also for my man. And even tho I'm polish (which helps a bit as it's Slavic language) I'm struggling hard, especially with pronunciation. Amazing job tho ! :)

Particularly videos where you present your view of the country, the Slovene society, the language, the pros and cons of living there, … As an expat I can totally relate to your language learning challenges, since I am also trying to learn a foreign language and I’d love to see more of my country and language through the eyes of an American. Keep up the good work! PS: does your husband do any job with lots of exposure in the media? He seems kinda familiar.
