Sound Insulation: Pass-by Outdoor Moving Sources

- As another application of Building Acoustics Auralization Technology integrated with real-time interactive Audio-Visual Technology, i.e. VR technology, we developed framework for evaluation of work performance and subjective ratings under sound insulation conditions of a pass-by outdoor sources. The technical-oriented evaluation is based on the standard measurement and sound insulation prediction techniques. Whereas, the human-centred approach, based on dynamic auralization of virtual reality (VR) scenes, is adopted to explore the potential of audio-visual VR to evaluate outdoor noise by building characteristics. Different background intermittent noise conditions, convolved with sound insulation filters of façade of an office room, could be presented in a VR office environment and the effects on working performances and subjective ratings are possible to measure using this framework. This video is an example scene for an ambulance passing by an office façade.
