Number one choice is a $2000 auto, most will choose a $600 pump or $300 88 mav, pump will always be more reliable and will run more types of ammo than an auto at a price far more can afford.
If you are choosing a shotgun and your not a person who is into guns and will most likely have several guns down the line. Get a pump action I don’t care what anyone says semiautomatic shotguns will never be as reliable as a pump and there are some great autoloaders out there but you can shoot any load that will fit into your chamber with a pump gun slugs to rubber buckshot.and the berettas the Banelli shotguns are crazy expensive the civilian one is almost 2 grand this video doesn’t tell you that about the best shotguns here.beretta is a bit cheaper but you can buy like 3 Mossbergs for what it still cost. They kick a little harder the pumps but it’s about as close as you can get to 100 percent reliable nothing is but it’s as close as you will get. There are also reasons why Mossberg is better then Remington. 1 it has duel extractors but it can run on one so you have a back up. One basically 2 they can be worked on by yourself from home if the ejector goes on your Remington it’s gotta go to a gun smith for repair it’s milled into the receiver I believe not 100 percent on that but it’s going to a smith either way. 3rd Mossberg is still American family owned. Old Remington 870s are amazing probably better smoother definitely over a Mossberg but I would be hesitant on the newer made stuff there quality control is not what it was long ago.I wouldn’t pick a shotgun for home defense but if you want to definitely get a pump it can do anything. Get a longer barrel to go with that 18.5 or 20 inch barrel a couple different types of shells and it can get you dinner as well. It can be a one gun option for someone who wants to just have one gun cause there not into guns.
@@arthurrobinson4644if it’s your first gun, get something with a more “traditional” stock. If you live in the states and need a smaller gun, get a handgun.
Remington quality is not what it used to be. New ownership. Go with the Mossberg 590. 18 1/2” 12ga 6-1. Retrograde. The walnut furniture is beautiful and it is an excellent home defense shotgun.
@@kensnall3889 Because Remington was sold twice over the last couple of years and they were having quality control problems. It isn’t what it used to be. Are the issues resolved? I wont buy one to find out. Just my opinion.
Buddy, I got a old ass 870 20 gauge pump action with a full-size barrel that use for hunting any shotgun is good. What load you put through it that’s your decision, modify choke for slugs. I’ll leave it with bird shot and you’ll still get a good pattern. Trust me, it puts like 3 inch holes in the wall had a good 20 feet and it’s got a big ass barrel
A good budget 500 or 870 is the way to go. No worries that once the need is over you have a live round chambered with an auto when the threat is over and not dependent on ammo power. Plus if ever did use it will be confiscated for evidence, not good with a $1,000+ gun.
Good point. And one I think about with EVERY weapon.Spend $2 grand for the attorney to get your 1$ grand shotgun back. NO CHARGE for the case numbers GOUGED into the receiver/buttstock. The better the wood, the deeper the gouge.
My home had 3 of these shotguns protecting it, my Remington 870 Express Tactical Magpul, my Benelli M4, and her Beretta 1301 so this list is a very good one.
Every shotgun can easily jam..and its usually the ammo or user errors.i had some Remington black case 2 3/4 inch bird shot that literally jamed in 2 different mossberg 500s a 590a1 and Stevens 320 , a charles daly 320 tactical, these shells we're absolutely defective and there are lots of ammo like this
I just bought a Mossberg Maverick 88 Cruiser for home defense. I have not fired the shotgun. I was wondering if it would be better to install a traditional stock or not? Any thoughts from anyone?
Go to a gun show or a pawn shop. Find a solid pump gun. Several different brands will qualify. Saw the barrel off at 19 inches. I think did a "how to" on it. Attach a brass bead. That's all you need.
If you want a 12 ga, semi auto, try the jts m12 ak with a 30 rnd drum mag, the bennelli turns into a single shot after 7 rnds, and you think thats a " combat gun" ???
So you assume most of us have 2 grand for a shotgun? Really? Oh, I suppose some do, but Geezus...maybe you just ran out of options because you wanted 5 choices. That Benelli is overpriced and marketed to military and police organizations. A local gun store here in Texas refused to sell them due to the unclear laws around selling them to the public.
I have an M88, equipped with a red dot rail and a spring loaded folding stock and it is perfect! A reliable, undemanding weapon that shoots anything!
5 best Mossberg, Mossberg, Mossberg, Mossberg and Mossberg

If you get a Maverick 88 opt for the 20 inch barrel to get an extra round in the tube.
....just learn about the weapon before you choose.

What's you opinion of the Mossberg Shockwave.
Considering it. But not sure bout the pros and cons for the 1st shot gun to have?

He’s not wrong…
Pumps can jam. Don't doubt it.
Not like a lot of autoloaders can. At least pumps are not too ammo sensitive with non-shortened shells.
Yea, ok, now tell me about semi auto's

its seems improved lately though
I bought a new 870 last year, I see no decreases from ours bought 16 years ago, been great so far.
Why would I go with a proven shotgun for 100 years or so say like Remington lol.

I'm a Mossberg loyalist, but that Benelli is a sweet boom stick. It's almost impossible to beat the Mossberg Shockwave for home defense though.
Would you recommend the shockwave to a first shotgun buyer for defense

Just bought the security model for my sister last christmas very nice weapon
A common sense list. Putting the cheapest gun first is a good move. Not everyone can afford the M4.

I have a 3 part plan Glock 9mm till I get to my 590 shockwave holds 5 rounds that last till I get to my 870 tactical that hold 8 plus 1
@@Sarge0311 You are correct. You use your handgun to fight your way to your rifle or shotgun. You don’t want a fair fight. You HAVE TO WIN.
remington 1100 might fit for a home defense, most people use it for outdoor sporting

Kinda’ like the Remington Tac-14 myself. It’s not cumbersome, and is reasonably priced. Cheers!

Yes. You always want to aim....even with a shotgun. Get rid of the pistol grip. Personally id put a folding stock on it.
@@aitf99 Thanks. I may do that.
@@mhammer5 I'd suggest knoxx or fab defence stocks. They're sweet.
Make sure the stock fits you. 88 stock has 14” reach. That’s too long for some. Good luck.

I prefer the remington 870 with a pistol grip so the safety is perfection and better than over the top safety
Definitely.👍 ( I Have Remington 870 Express Magnum Marine ).Greeetings From İstanbul / Turkey.🇹🇷😊
I’m a Southpaw; so Mossberg is my choice as the safety is ambidextrous, the others are right hand friendly
