    High five! A BIG Friends fan here as well! (Sadly, this comes soon after the news of 'Gunther' passing away 😥.) Other than that, I must say I've never used VPN personally but this information sure comes in handy - even, or I should say especially, before moving to Germany. This is how I see it from my personal perspective. Of course I have stumbled upon a web content which happens to be inaccessible in my home country Bulgaria, but these have been rather within the range of illegal stuff anyway, like trying to download ... for which activity I don't care for many years now. (Yep, times change and mindset changes. That is, if common sense is not late.) But what about streaming content like on TH-cam? Something that might be interesting for me to see, but when clicking I get a screen saying "This content is unavailable for your country." This has only occurred with music videos of artists who are mostly popular abroad, or are dedicated to a very specific genre, not like big international stars, and has never happened about content of vloggers for example, or any official media. So... yeah, all of your selected information is more than halfway new to me, and thank you for being right on the spot, as always! 👍😀

    Love you two😁 great content. A question though, on the subject. Is it legal to visit a website which streams lets say tv shows and movies but those are not official (as in Netflix and similar)? In this case I, as a user, am not downloading anything copywrited but the site which streams the content is doing so.

    • @simplegermany
      @simplegermany  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Streaming content that does not follow the proper copyright rules is illegal in Germany. An example of illegal streaming sites in Germany is 123movies or similar. Streaming services like Netflix, Discord, Twitch and TH-cam, however, are completely legal to use. Hope that answers your question 😊

    Thanks for more fascinating and entertaining content ... Unfortunately, I've tried Nord and Express; BOTH were detected by Netflix, who instructed me to turn off my VPN, then try to access their site again. I canceled both VPNs! As individuals, you two are perfect ... together, you're even better! I love it when Jen, at 15: 07 (unconsciously) does an impersonation of Yvonne's accent, saying: 'It's not because--as you said--the VPN klähmß ..." : ) Bis bald!

    • @nightshocker6908
      @nightshocker6908 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems Nordvpn does not do Netflix anymore only Amazon(based on the help on their web site). For geoblocking it is a cat and mouse game. vpn finds a working ip, streaming service blocks it..... really what everyone should be doing is cancelling the service until geoblocking is gone. I do not have a netflix account for this reason. There are other ways of watching content online and if companies do not want my money well then I will keep it.

  • @AbhijeetWankhade
    @AbhijeetWankhade 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Content geoblocking is one of the most complex and fun topics to discuss. Generally, the reason why some content is not available in some regions is because of it has to do a lot with the licensing deals.
    These deals are usually stupid and archaic. The content providers or CPs (HBO, SHO, Disney, etc) have made deals with long expiration dates. Let’s say HBO made a deal with maybe Sky Cinema for Game of Thrones in Germany for 3 years as an example. Since Sky now owns the rights to GoT, no one else, including streaming companies (including HBO if they launch in Germany) can show you GoT till the contract expires.
    So, if you unblock the content using VPN, you are technically breaking the rules by accessing the content illegally since that platform has no rights to stream that content and theoretically CP will not earn money from that steaming session.
    This is why shows made by Netflix are instantly available across the globe since they own both production and distribution rights.

    Oh my goodness, here I found out something I didn't know yet. Because of the German-sounding name, I've always suspected NordVPN is somewhere in northern Germany, maybe Hamburg. Very naive, I know. Panama changes practically everything. Great comparison.

    Hi girls, thanks for the detailed info! Still I have 2 questions: #1. is the downloading for offline watching on official streaming services like Netflix and Spotify legal? These are legal services and I pay for them so I think it should be legal but can you confirm it? #2: does screening out onto the TV from my laptop count as illegal streaming? eg. I have Friends Reunion downloaded on my computer and I want to watch it on the bigger TV screen. One of the screenshots of your streaming article on your website mentioned it but it wasn't very clear. Thank you :)

    • @simplegermany
      @simplegermany  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! So #1 is totally ok cause you’re using the paid app to temporarily store media. You’re not reselling it or anything.
      #2 if you’re mirroring content from any device to a TV to which you have paid for that’s totally fine as well!
      What’s illegal is to download movies from sites that pirate the media and don’t have the rights to use them.
      Hope that clears it up 😊

      @@Ringelsocke. geht mir genauso.

    Isn't Surfshark located in the Netherlands? And ExpressVPN owned by a british company with a malware distributing history? And when it comes to privacy of data, why should I trust a Panama based company more than an Germany Internet provider that has to follow the GDPR standards? Hm, not sure about those recommendations, but the VPN vocabulary part was great :)

    sorry guys. I like your channel, but saying a VPN protects your data is just wrong.
    You state correctly that your ISP can access your (transmitted) data.
    Using a VPN will prevent your ISP to access yout (transmitted) data.
    BUT
    Your VPN-Provider can access your data. All you do is to replace your ISP with your VPN-Provider. All your traffic will still be visible. But it will be visible for the VPN Provider instead of your ISP

    • @WattsToTheWheels

[...] I think they're allowed to do it actually, they're just not allowed to pinpoint who you are specifically but they can use your data, amass.
      This is true, and they can do that as long as you are not using an encrypted VPN.
      If you DO you an encrypted VPN, the same is true for the VPN provider. Your ISP can no longer collect your data, the VPN Provider can. That is the crucial thing they do not tell. That was the reasoning behind my first comment.
      "Very important that they do not store your data or logs, or whatever you do [...]
      yeah, sure ;)
      "and of course they all use a military ingraded encryption, that's very important that the VPN needs to be encrypted"
      The Connection is encrypted. Meaning the coonnection between you, and your VPN Provider. The data you sends out to the internet will be DEcrypted by the VPN and then send to the target-host normally as you would do without a VPN. So the VPN (and the VPNs ISP) can see your data.
      All you do is preventing your own ISP from seeing what your data. But your introduce a VPN provider (and its ISP which is usually the same company) which CAN see your data.

    there's a reason why express vpn is expensive, some vpns actually keep logs about who u r, how much time ur using it, and all which defeats the whole purpose. where express vpn is so log free that even Russian govt couldn't extract data from it when a crime happened and the crinimals were found to use it.
    they also take out all of their servers in india when indian govt asked all vpn companies to log the user data.
