I am surprised you haven't come across the extremely common way that women were legally silenced in the past, and still are. It is often featured in period dramas and books. Women are still called crazy and punished by losing their children even today, Britney Spears's experience being the most recent and obvious example. Patriarchy, misogyny and ablism causing a perfect storm of cruel control over women's lives. I makes me angry... oh but I shouldn't say so out loud incase someone calls me crazy and takes my children away.

We brits call a robe a dressing gown, and one of my most relateable memes of all time says:
The magic of the dressing gown:
Cold? Put on your dressing gown
Upset? Put on your dressing gown
Feeling lazy? Put on your dressing gown
Life falling apart? Put on your dressing gown
I’d like to add - Price of heating gone up in the cost of living crisis? Put on your dressing gown 🥰😂

As a mom of six, I just wanted to encourage you and say that what you've accomplished learning to nurse is no small thing! Although, each of my babies (now all adults) were different "nursers", none of them was as challenging as that first sweet child with a first-time mom! For me, grueling and joy are the perfect words to describe nursing. Bravo for you!

Amen. My son started nursing, then would pull off and SCREAM and not want to nurse. So I pumped for several months, around the clock, kept trying to heal my poor scabbed nipples and tried to get him back to breast. After about 3 months -- finally -he started nursing again. I saw three lactation consultants when he was refusing and they all said "you've tried everything, it's ok to give up" but I didn't and we made it many years after that. ANYWAY -- I know how hard it can be -- so brava, Hannah! (Disclaimer, if you didn't want to, couldn't breastfeed, or something else - no judgement. Just sharing the hell I went through with my son and saying "yay" to Hannah.)

@@womanofacertainage5892 i went through almost the same, and had to have surgery because a clogged duct turned into an egg sized abcès by the time my son was 3 weeks old. I hung in there and he started nursing again and then did until he decided he didn't need/want to anymore :) what did help me a lot was the lactation consultant saying : "you have to make your own choice, then it will be the right choice :)"

Some context for the tv show One Piece: One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha's shōnen (boy's) manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump since July 1997, with its individual chapters compiled into 107 volumes (small book format) as of November 2023. For reference an average number of volumes is about 7-9 for a short series and 20-30 for a longish series. This makes One Piece the long running manga that most people think of as being sooo long running. The anime began broadcasting in 1999 and is extremely popular and well known by most of the anime community. This Netflix show is therefore a new addition to One Piece's whole existence. And generally speaking while most live action versions of shonen anime have been unpopular and underwhelming, this adaptation is a slay (probably because the creator Oda was heavily involved in the production.)

The way Hannah talks about music and other cultural phenomena makes me think of Cady Heron, the way the other girls are like “omg, I love her, she’s like a Martian!” It’s delightful watching someone describe things without the hyperconnected cultural awareness that most 20- and 30-somethings on the internet have. I think we actually lose some of our ability to frame concepts because we’re too steeped in the sauce.

@@saram3156 Anytime I’m around someone over 60 or 70 and say something a little too poisoned by my internet brain rot, I suddenly have to explain it and get a nice reminder of how bizarre the references sound to a “normal” person. I LOVE THIS. We should all work on exposing ourselves to more off-the-beaten path stuff, and developing our own preferences and standards for judging things that aren't solely keyed to ... Internet-Based Societal Norms Specific To Our Own Generation. I mean, I get that being "steeped in the sauce" is basically a jumpahead cheat-sheet for framing things because it allows for a whooooole lot of mutually-agreed-upon assumptions being in play without having to elucidate each one, but it's also really limiting? When you're primed to be specifically looking for characteristics that denote something is Within The Sauce, you're maybe less capable of appropriately judging things that're /outside/ it, so you're more likely to miss out on Great Stuff. (Or maybe your primary /goal/ is being part of that ongoing In The Sauce cultural conversation, which, okay, but seems kinda sad to me, unless spotting and tracking trends is your literal job.)

I’m so glad you raised “One Piece”! I used to have special time with my son each day before school watching the animated version. I can still remember the tune of the theme song. How exciting it will be to tell him it’s now a TV series and perhaps it will be something we can bond over now that he is a young adult. How funny! I never thought that would come up again in our lives 😮😊
Fear not about your book sales. I ordered a copy the minute you mentioned it and I can see others have too. I’ll try to find time to approach my library too as that’s a great idea. Lastly, if you’re interested in murder mystery period drama set just after WW2, have I got a show for you. It’s called Foyles War. It is exactly as you described your interests to be, the acting is superb and the sound track hauntingly beautiful. It’s a British TV show so that goes back some years so I’m not sure if it’d be on Netflix, but do see if you can find the first series if you can and give it a go. I commend it to you. So glad to have you back. Now go and have a snooze and we will see you next time 😊❤

Felt crazy for wanting another despite a healthy collection already, but there is another box to tick in terms of weight, fluffiness, etc. Even if there weren’t, that would be ok too!! It’s funny I felt like I had to get rid of one first because the collection is too obscene and it’s been in a bag by the door to give to a friend but I keep finding myself unable to actually do it…. Also a duvet user and bed-making devotee: one twist to consider - open the bed waaay up and spread pillows out, leave for a bit so the bed and bedding get dry and return to their maximum loftiness. Make the bed after. Savor the extra-delicious sense of poof when you flop your tired self into your nest at the end of the day. Putting pillows and duvet out in the sun periodically for extra loft is the best version of this.

    ❗Important note ❗
Please always remember to air out your bed before you make it (the mattress, pillow and blanket)!!!! Never make your bed immediately after getting up/getting out of bed in the morning!!!
Your body loses moisture (sweat, saliva etc.) through the skin and body orifices overnight and this moisture is absorbed by your bed textiles, even if it is only in small, barely noticeable quantities. If you make your bed immediately after getting up, for example by putting the duvet over the mattress and possibly even putting a bedspread over the duvet and pillows, your bedding cannot dry properly. Result: your bed possibly becomes a breeding ground for germs AND mold can form!

Several times in this video you lightly chastised yourself for going on too long about a topic. I just wanted you to know that each time you said something, my brain went, "Oh, I don't think it's been to long. I'm loving this."
You geek out about things in a way that is so wonderful to listen to and makes me want to re-examine the little things in my life to appreciate them more.

I am so surprised and delighted that you enjoyed One Piece! I started reading the manga several years ago and my Husband and I have slowly been going through the Anime (it's ongoing still with over 1000 episodes😅) and despite it being something I never thought I would be into, it has become one of the most profound and special stories I've experienced.
For me it's an example of long form media being super rewarding and worth the (very long) journey

The One Piece manga is honestly unparalleled... It's been such a joy to be obsessed for decades. To read chapter *1100* of a piece of fiction and be brought to tears? To know there are millions of fans worldwide on this same adventure with me? Oda is really an incredible man to have brought this world to life. I always feel like I'm gushing when proselytizing about One Piece to others but it's really that good haha

I love the term “chaos of objects” my husband and I have felt that since becoming parents too. We make a point to tidy away all the toys etc every night. It only takes us ten minutes but feels great to have that adult time in an area that feels more adult and clear. And a great way to start the day.

So I actually got a robe because of you. I got one of those ridiculous rich widow robes. I had been looking at them before, but after doing the thought process I realized that I needed something for what I wear after I come back from my ballet class, but before I put on pjs. And I found one second hand and it's fabulous.

As someone who loves to knit large multi-coloured scrap yarn sweaters, I have been worried about my collection growing too large. But recently, similarly to you and robes, my feelings about my sweater collection have been shifting away from shame. I work from home and my home is relatively cold. One of the things that really get me down in winter is how much this limits what I can wear to stay comfortable, and by the end of winter I am losing my mind wearing the same thing every day. What cheers me up then is a lovely crazy handmade sweater. I will let myself make more ❤

I had to listen to Orville Peck after hearing your description of his music! Wow wow wow! I'm so struck by the earnestness in his voice. I wonder if the mask plays any part in allowing him to sing with such a vulnerable sincerity... But then at the same time it still seems somehow playfully tongue in cheek. So much to chew on just in ~*the tones*~

    Hi Hannah.
Congrats again on your first publication of your poetry. I live in the Brexit UK...not the EU (I wish) so it would be difficult to look out for your book. However, I will contact my family and friends who live in the USA and see if THEY will be interested in purchasing your book.
I must admit that I LOVE it when my bed is made. A certain feeling of completion/satisfaction to my morning chores when I do this. Having a duvet makes it easier too. It'stripping the bed and washing, then making it that I do not like as much.
