      @Jericho Oban nah, it was hard because we payed attention as he talked about taking his shoulders out of a movement, while putting 100% of the strain on his shoulder joint, not even his shoulder muscle, just begging for injuries.
      That's one reason anyway.

    exactly. Gym bros have got it wrong when it comes to benching, a lot of it comes from the bodybuilding side of things.
    -Touch and go bench, they think that pausing is 'losing tension'
    -Half/quarter reps to 'keep constant tension'
    -trying to do 1 rep max with a weight is beyond their actual 1 rep max and they will have their spotter do all the work.
    -thinking that leg drive is 'cheating'
    -elbows flared out to 'work the pecs more' and using incorrect bar path
    -thinking that creating an arch is 'cheating', yet the same people do touch and go bench..
    close grip paused bench is too much for bros to comprehend either, a lot of them will say not to touch the chest on close grip bench as it's a 'tricep exercise, not chest', never mind pause on the chest. Oh well, bros gonna be bros I guess.

  • @Ryan_DeWitt

    What so funny about the bench press is back when I first started training in the gym over 20+ years ago, you rarely saw people not touching their chest on the bench. Seriously it was uncommon. Then somewhere along the way, the bullshit "You'll hurt your shoulders if you touch your chest thing became popular." Now I would say 40% if not more people on the bench press don't touch their chest when benching. Often it is really bad where they are 6 inches away or more.

    • @danp8309
      @danp8309 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spot on. I don't even understand what makes people think not touching their chest on the bench press is a good idea. If i don't touch my chest it feels like I am going to snap my shit up.

    I've seen too many guys who have shoulder issues who know how to flat bench right and reach very good weights-at or near or even past 400lbs-, add in those guys who are on gear who can bench 500lb upward that honestly for me I just mainly focus on shoulder pressing. I sometimes add 45 degree inclines. Chest grows slower but has a much, much better aesthetic to the upper body.

    • @theXCoversXcimi
      @theXCoversXcimi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @chrono8233
    @chrono8233 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    In theory you dont need bench press to build chest. However in reality you do. Because it would take forever to get enough total volume/tonnage with fly movements. total tonnage would add up much quicker benching. Nobody wants to do 83 sets of chest flys.

    • @chrono8233
      @chrono8233 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hhhlll7778 Dips are ok.. they are high injury risk. I personally do dips but only bodyweight. If you can learn how to activate the chest with bench press over triceps and shoulders then bench press becomes the best mass gainer. This takes practice and most guys lift too heavy and never learn how to fully activate their chest during the press.

    In my experience, barbelbench is the biggest builder for the chest, for years I listened to the gym bros saying the bench wasn't a chest builder and for the longest my chest was tiny, it only grew once I started focusing on increasing my strength on my bench, it's still naturally a lagging point for me, but it grew a ton once I got my strength up on the flat bench.

    I do a mixture of high volume short rest periods moderate weight to lighten weight for 2 weeks at a time and then heavier 5x5 or 5 sets of 8-10 reps heavier for strength and mass gains. I Also have my diet in check and I've put a ton of lean size and definition and strength on in a 5 year period. It's done wonders for me.
