    I just got the Laredo for my bday recently. First pellet grill/smoker i have ever had. Great price for entry level and I agree doesn't smoke much. Food still tastes great and after watching this video, i will be grabbing one of those smoking tubes. Great video and comparison review!

    The Laredo is small. I bought one sight unseen and took it back as soon as I opened the box. The racks are very close together. Next I bought the 1600, and man, it is way bigger. It is perfect and the racks are far enough apart to cook on all 3 at one time. The top racks even slide and tilt! I am in South Louisiana and it is very humid here, no auger jams.

    • @DeadBrokeBBQ
      @DeadBrokeBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome glad you went with the 1600!! Thanks for watching and if you run it enough the pellets won't swell up but if you put it away for a month or so might be smart to dump the pellets out and put them in a pail with a lid.

    • @cjr4497
      @cjr4497 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DeadBrokeBBQ duly noted. I have some clear tote containers with the gasket lid that I keep my extra pellets in. So far I have not gone more than 2 weeks without cooking in it. I did have one and only problem with the pit. The lever for the pellet dump got stuck and I had to take it apart and ream out the mounting screw holes to fix it.

    Good review Jeff! I'm not a huge fan of porcelain grates either. Things seem to stick on them worse, and that porcelain can pop off. Stainless or carbon expanded metal for me. Maybe PitBoss will tweak their controller through an update to pump out a bit more smoke, but like you said, toss a smoke tube in it.

      @DeadBrokeBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Rus!!! I agree brother stainless racks are so nice!!! With the Laredo's controller it would have to be sent back to get a firmware update like I had to do with the 1600 and I do not think Pit Boss has any plans for that at the moment!! Like always bro I appreciate you watching!!!

    My Laredo 1000 puts off plenty of smoke. No issues and no tube needed. If you are smoking anything over 24hrs is gonna be dry af. 26lb hoppers are plenty for any time of cook.

    • @DeadBrokeBBQ
      @DeadBrokeBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nah that hopper log piled on me over night and snuffed out on a pork butt. This pit runs great but just puffs a little smoke compared to many other pellet grills I have owned or ran. Now I grew up running an offset so maybe my smoke profile is much higher than yours but for me the only way I got any flavor off this pit was by adding a tube. Thanks for watching!

    Pit Boss Pro Triple-function Comb Grill (Lowes) vs Pit Boss KC Combo (Walmart). Which is better? With a family of 6 I am frequently cooking fajitas, pancakes, etc. on a griddle so the KC Combo looks nice, and the flat top is removeable to use it as a grill, so that is nice. But I like the idea of having a full gas grill with lid, and cold smoker for things like cheese and jerky in the combo. Decisions, decisions.

    • @DeadBrokeBBQ
      @DeadBrokeBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have heard that the KC combo does not smoke as much. But I have never ran either. I hate picking out the one I should get too that is why I do these videos but without and hands on experience on the pits I really can’t tell you other than I think the Pro Series pits are a tad better.

    • @JamesBrohard
      @JamesBrohard 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I decided to purchase the KC Combo for my birthday back in May. After using it for several months, I have been very happy overall. Of course I don't own the other grill to compare the two. I have grilled steaks, made pulled pork, smoked sausage, chicken, ribs, and even a turkey. I've used the griddle top for mushrooms, burgers, bacon, and chicken. I love having the ability to cook in so many ways. The cleaning is a bit of a pain, but not bad. Just make sure you have a shop vac. I have been having an issue with the built-in lights. once the grill gets hot they don't come on. The MNFR sent me a new light kit, but I think the issue is actually the circuit board is getting too hot. I've also started noticing some issues with the thermometers. I think they need to add some thermal insulation in the lid of the hopper, where the brains are.

    • @DeadBrokeBBQ
      @DeadBrokeBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I feel your pain, I went from an offset to pellet grills but I will say my family is a lot happier because in the past I only had time for the offset on weekends! So there really isn't a big difference other than the added griddle on the 1600. Both pits pretty much are the same just one is bigger. I will say that Pit Boss has another 1600 coming out called the Elite but mine is not here yet (also an exclusive at Lowe's). In the pellet grill world you really get what you pay for but Pit Boss does have a good bang for your buck pit. Thanks for watching and remember that with a pellet grill the flavor won't be there but it is still good and makes people happy. I will say my Lone Star Grillz pellet is the closest I have ever gotten to my old offset but you can buy 4 1600's for what my LSG ended up costing.

    Now how would you compare the pro Series to your LSG? Just curious since you said the pro series smokes more…. Could it keep up with the LSG as far as smoke profile?
    I already knew which one would win here , because the Laredo is just a smaller Lockhart… trust me the Laredo shortcomings will show after a year or two

    • @DeadBrokeBBQ
      @DeadBrokeBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The LSG all the way. But my 1600 does smoke pretty good for a box store pit! The LSG is the closest pellet grill to match up to my old offset. I do have a new LSG offset coming soon and that will get me back to those types of cooks again so I will easily be able to compare the pellet grills smoke flavor to my offset again.

    • @DeadBrokeBBQ
      @DeadBrokeBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hmmm only thing I can offer is to run it on low or smoke mode for a longer period of time. You will never be able to over smoke anything using a pellet grill. Try some mesquite blends, maybe that will give you what you are looking for? I use lumberjack Hickory or Oak and I am ok with those. But it will never match my old offset for smokey flavor. Steer clear of the Laredo 1000. I have an 820D, which reaches temperatures in less than 8 minutes. The Laredo? 60 minutes to reach 350. No joke. Pitboss customer service is awful. After asking me a bunch of questions and making me take pictures of the grill, they gave up and said 60 minutes heat up was normal, and wouldn’t try any further. I posted this experience on their forum, and they banned me from the forum. I guess they don’t want customers to know how bad some of their Techs are. The problem is the software with this piece of garbage. It only calls pellets for six seconds at a time, which probably amounts to three pellets. Great if you’re trying to cook a marshmallow. They told me to just keep pushing “prime” to put more pellets in. Tons of people in their forum report the same issue. They won’t fix it. Buy this grill at your own risk. It really is terrible. My 820 D from Pit Boss smokes this thing, literally.

      @@DeadBrokeBBQ lol. Disagree. I have both the Laredo 1000 and PB1150 ( 1/2 off on the Laredo 🤷‍♂️) and honestly prefer the Laredo. Especially when that auger jam does occur.
      I do think my PB1150 gets to temp better but if you follow they start up and let it get to smoke temp, then close down the stack and rip it to 350, then back off to whatever temp you desire it produces a decent smoke. The Laredo is sensitive to the start up procedure they state in the manual.
      Also, the air gap mid works on the pro series but it makes the Laredo run like 💩. Probably due to taller cook chamber and vertical stack instead of side mount.
      One things for sure, a double spit rotteserie fits in the Laredo beautifully. Entire reason I got it. To do picana and birds.
