Same I haven't read/seen the series and watching this video made me so relieved that haven't. Elena is so annoying from the book that I would've DNF it on the first couple of pages. Chloe reaction makes horrible books like this enjoyable to watch. Also I don't understand what "American Healthy way" means. Does anybody know what that means?

I highly recommend Stefan's Diaries. They were written by the people that wrote the show, so they follow the TV show's story line.

I've read the whole series and from what I gathered they switched Katherine's and Elena's personalities. In the show Katherine is only in it for herself and she's savage AF. But in the books its the other way around at least until book 3 I think is when there is some character development.

@@Anonymous-bz6oc its very confusing honestly. It's kinda like Cassandra Clare's where there's multiple series following the characters. The first series is 4 books and those are the only ones I have read. Goodreads though has the whole series listed in order so I suggest looking on there. From what I gathered, its the original four books, then the three books in The Return series, and then 3 books in The Hunters series. Plus there's also the spin off like Stefan's diaries etc.

yeah in the show, they really messed up katherine’s character by the 4th season but i liked elena both in the books and the show.

I read the books before the show came out, I love both separately. They are very different and both have completely separate vibes.
I think once you make it through the first you come to love the book series whereas the tv show hooks you from the first episode.
OMG yes! I also read the books first and even though I also love the show, I have so much love for the books but I only ever see people trash on them because they saw the show first and it breaks my heart

my 12 years old self is resurrecting to watch this video I'M HYPED
I was literally obsessed with the show for 6 years since i was 13!! I rewatched it every summer and would literally ball my eyes out(Damon forever honestly haha). I will always love my vampire phase it was seriously what got me into reading and series but these books sound like fanfiction its so funny hearing all the differences!!
I got tired of the show because it seemed like elena was in high school for 50000 years, but the first few seasons are so amazing I rewatch them over and over! watching you react to this was the best thing ever haha!!!!
I LOVED the books back when I first read them (although once the ghostwriter took over the quality declined rapidly (which when you consider how they’re not great to start with, you can imagine), don’t know what the tv show’s excuse was...)
But if you’re gonna read them you need to put the idea of the show out of your mind. They’re so different!
L J Smith’s Nightworld books are still some of my nostalgic faves and have the most beautiful new covers. Seriously go look up the box set, they’re so pretty. Super witchy. And they’re the better series, in my opinion, made up of novellas that all link together.

I think it depends which you were exposed to first, my sister read the books first and as they came out and loved them and can’t stand to watch the show because it’s horrible compared to the books because it’s a bad adaptation, I watched the show first and hated a couple of the characters that when I read the books I liked a lot better and I like both but view them as separate entities
In my opinion I haven’t read the books however I like the books better

So many people who've watched the show first, hate the books. I also watched the show first but I found the books more enjoyable. Elena has an actual character development unlike in the show. Heck, I even prefer the Salvatore brothers in the books. Damon is much more complex and Stefan is so dramatic and yet such a wholesome character. I like Bonnie the most, she reminds me a lot of Caroline, from the show. Even Matt is a likeable character! Judge me all you want but those books are amazing

This was definitely a 90’s book series. I read it back when I first started high school so I loved it! It definitely holds found memories but I haven’t read it in so long and I don’t think I would love it as much now. I read the first two books in one night 😂
Also I forgot I remember liking the secret circle and dark visions by her better. The character aren’t as annoying. But it’s also been years since I read those as well

I remember reading these books in primary school and the covers were so emo. As a result , I had the image of Elena as a goth with pixie blond hair.

Fell's Church, VA (Falls Church in the books) is a real place and there also may be a Robert E. Lee HS in existence as well. Also... i read these when i was around 12 or 13 and i do not remember a word i read. All i know is that i was team damon from the beginning.

I love the books, I don't know why, nothing really happens in the first two and they obviously did not age well haha. I guess it's because I read them in my early teens and they just feel so nostalgic.
I'm really bitter that Meredith wasn't in the TV show she is the only normal character.

I’ve only read the books (except last one, had to dnf) never watched the show, and I’m so happy you’re doing this vlog! Yes please to a second one for the second book! I couldn’t believe it when they took out Meredith completely and switched Elena’s little sister with a teenage brother. FYI, the last few books (I think the last 3) are written by a ghost writer, not the same author, so they have an entirely different feel (assuming you read that far into the series), not better not worse just different. And team Stefan here since I always liked Damon with Bunny
I actually read the books that were published before the show first when I was 13 (I'm 26 now) so I was so confused at all the changes they made but I remember really enjoying the books and I still love the show
This was very fun to watch! I love Vampire Diaries and I have thought about reading the book just to see the differences as well. I’ve obviously heard how bad it is so that’s why I never read it. I read this and L.J. Smith's other books until they fell apart when I was in middle school. It was so weird to me when they changed so much for the show. (And also for the tv adaptation of The Secret Circle.)

It’s all a matter of perspective, I read the books before they started the show. I love the show so dang much and they definitely did it justice but it’s all the source material! They will never be able to touch the underworld time between Damon and Elena going to save Stefan! Honestly my favorite between show/book!

I’m only a couple chapters into the sixth book and Matt is a key character and I’m LIVING for the Damon, Elena and Matt banter happening!
Matt isn't a bad character in general, he's just boring. But then again, I'm only on season 1 lol.

I read the books before the tv show came out and the show was totally different. They more or less took some character names and the basic love triangle situation and did whatever. Love both.
Should definitely do that to gossip girl also since they were books turned into a show! This was so fun to watch! I knew many differences between vampire diaries books and show but definitely didn’t think there were sooooo many!
If she ever gets to the last books and finds out Elena has wings. Or what happens to Caroline.... Completely different stories
