Dark Souls Baltard. That’s awesome. I reckon he fits right in, having a little of that sort of aesthetic to him. I recently told another commenter that I should name a Baltoy after Baltard in Pokémon sometime, if only for the similar name. (Then I can have a Baltard and a Tartard-the latter of which is Poliwrath’s French name. No idea what it means, but it’s fucking hilarious to read.)

It came with the 'wrong' harnes, the sun one instead of the square one, no shield and a cocktail sword soemoine had painted up like an official accessory. I'm planning on buying one of super 7's new vintage style He-Man figures to swap the head over.
Thanks sir! This was a lot of fun and made me nostalgic for the kid years. I remember finding the bootlegs interesting but was a Mattel snob back then and refused anything that wasn't authentically MOTU.

All my D&D characters from now on shall be called Baltard. That is the greatest name ever. Also, Ygg's name is OBVIOUSLY pronounced "eeg", as in "Yggsdrasil" or "Ys".
I found a Dino-man today that has the sungold/honk kong on the leg and the round chest harness but the belt and gauntlets are brown and the head is a flesh tone but darker than the version 2. He is in great shape but has no weapons. I found him in one of those toy grab bags at a thrift store for $1.25.
The things you find out if you dig hard enough. Magnon's distinctive bird-helm is also taken from Frazetta art... but oddly enough not from a lavish painting... rather from ink art interior illustrations from a release of Edgar Rice Burroughs' A Fighting Man Of Mars, a John Carter science fantasy novel. geekynerfherder.blogspot.ca/2012/02/art-of-barsoom-frank-frazetta.html I mean the design has been heavily simplified to accomodate a toy mold but all the details are there. The crest, the bird head, the pointy back piece, even the little line on the side of his helmet are there, just far more prominent.
I'm not surprised there are inconsistencies in the paint, I work in a factory and it's not uncommon for us to run out of a specific kind of paint or something due to lack of foresight from someone else. In those instances we often reference the actual blueprints for the thing we are making and check to see what allowances can be made based on that. Sometimes we can substitute a paint or color, sometimes we cannot. I'm not an engineer, I don't pretend to know why some kinds of paints are allowed and others are not. There are other instances in which a product we use in the production of our products may change brands or types, sometimes simply because someone found a cheaper alternative to what we are currently using. Often times these changes will be made during new financial quarters in an attempt to look better to superiors, saying "Look I saved the company money." This doesn't always work out. I remember when the brand of machine coolant we used was changed to save something like $0.10USD per gallon of coolant. Without actually testing it, they just replaced all the coolant with the new brand. We started to have catastrophic machine failures, I don't know the specific details, but it was due to a chemical difference in the new coolant. The people responsible for the change dug their heels in for awhile, implying it was operator error, but they were eventually forced to change back to the old brand. I know working at Walmart, they used to have a recall board by the customer service desk and a lot of times, it was due to a change in paint. Chinese factories are contracted to manufacture products with specific specifications in design and paint, but underbid contracts in order to win. They just replace specific paint with something cheaper and ship it out. Often times lead based. I digress; these toys were made in factories. Perhaps the decision to change the paint(s) was simply a financial one or it may have been a quality reason.
Back in the day, I remember KB Toys had a whole endcap feature of these figures. They quickly ended up in their markdown bargain bins. I did like Spikes & Sahack but I never picked them up regrettably.
I mentioned this elsewhere, but Baltard makes me think of Panthro, if you cover the topknot of hair. But Baltard existed 1st. Is Baltard an original character? I haven't seen a Frazetta piece that features a Baltard-like character.
I wonder if Rahh and Deevil were designed first, then Sungold got a little skidish and then them altered to make Magnon and Thor, saving the original run for foreign release.
Phelan, do you have a method for fixing the wobbly legs of Galaxy figures? I know there are now replacement rubber bands (He-Bands) that make it fairly easy to repair Masters of the Universe figures, but I imagine these would be too large for Galaxy figures, which seem to use more of an actual rubber band than hard rubber to connect the legs. Thanks!
galazy warriors are actually better designed than the majority of the masters of the universe toys. i can see why they have so many bootlegs of their own.
