Phelan, I’m thankful for you going into detail differences on these Galaxy goons. Recently, I picked up a Baltard at an old toy shop for $5. He was missing all his accessories (and oddly enough, a nipple) and considering how deep and confusing this hole goes, I had no idea which line he was from. From this video, I can now verify that he is a Fighter. Thanks!
I can't help but think the way you said Kobra's name was in reference to the GI Joe: The Movie theme. Cobra! COBRAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Cobra! COBRAAAAAAAAAAAAA! And I don't know why but Anobe is giving me Son Goku vibes in combination of his facial features and the headband he has.
I just noticed something when you were talking about the similarity amongst the "good guys" versus the variety of the "bad guys" and the disparity of their numbers: If you look back at the actual illustrations of the characters, Anobe (by which I mean the elf dude not the mislabeled Anubi) and Robic are both holding SKULL shields, meaning they were meant to be "bad guys" and giving a strict ratio of 5:6 good to bad (assuming each character counts as one guy in cases like Magnon/Daton and Anubi/Anobe/Walf). Magoon (with the EYES) appears to be a remold/repaint of the Baltard head, explaining his somewhat bewildered expression. Sure it's lazy but as the only mold with a bald head his was probably the easiest to rework. Also, I think "Walf" is probably meant to be pronounced more like "Wahlf" (to bring it closer to "Wolf") but I'm just guessing.

After watching the black hole that is galaxy warriors, really brought me back to my childhood and finding out the Knock offs I played with as a kid were the defenders of the planets, and 30 years later digging them out of the attic lol. The Completely and Totally (Un)True History of Baltard/Batoon - Baltard was a carefree man(?). He would spend his days running through the streets in his furry underwear screaming "BAAAAAAAAAAAAAALTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD" as if it were some kind of battle cry and he was charging into war. Why he did this, nobody knows, however, this action caused him to be the laughing stock of the town, and most likely the next few towns over. Upset by their mocking of his make-believe wars, (because nobody would take him for actual battles) Baltard left his home town and went to where he hoped nobody had heard of him. Baltard soon ran into a band of misfits, being Anubi, Kobra, and Iguana. The small group of animal-men had decided to start a war, as, someone, not pointing fingers, stole the last of the cricket cookies. (There is speculation that Iguana was in charge of the excuse) Baltard was quickly accepted, because they needed more people to have an army, and soon after accepting, the most amazing conversation happened. - "Baltard is a pretty dumb name." Iguana said, earning glares from his comrades. "You're one to talk, Iguana." Anubi replied. "Well ssseeing as we're on the the topic of namesss, I'd like to add an extra 'A' to the end of mine!" Kobra said bluntly, quickly becoming Kobraa. "I think I'll become Anobe!" Anubi said, only to change it to Walph moments later because Anobe was taken. "BATOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!" Baltard quickly spat out, because he liked the sound of the word 'platoon' and just changed the first letter so it was closer to his old name. "That ssssoundsss pretty cool!" Kobraa said to Baltard, now known as Batoon. "Iguana, hurry up and pick an awesome new name like the rest of us!" Walph said bluntly to the mismatched reptilian. "Nah, I think I'll stick to my old name." Iguana said with a shrug before they began talking strategy, or at least changed the topic. - Later, after probably a couple of hours, they started looking at each other's weapons. Batoon was given the chance to hold Kobraa's sword, and this chance was used to swing it around wildly, somehow cutting of, not only his ponytail, but the tips of his ears, and stabbing himself in the eye. After a trip to whatever emergency room equivalent these guys have, Batoon was never the same again. - Actually, the "was never the same again" is a bold faced lie because he was the same guy, he just wore an eye patch, had slightly different ears, and wore his hair differently. - - - If that story was sad to you whatsoever, think about how sad this is, I just spent, probably more than an hour, writing a backstory for knock-offs of bootlegs. Yep, I have a pretty pathetic life sometimes. XD I hope anyone who read this enjoyed, and if you didn't, you try coming up with reasons for why Baltard became Batoon and then Batoon gained an eye-patch, less pointy ears, and a new haircut. Even if you did I encourage anyone to try and come up with reasons for weird things. - - - PS : I may or may not have thought about having Baltard/Batoon's sword swinging mishap to be the reason for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Tubtles' weird face scars. XD

Anobe has to be some kind of take on Sun Wukong/Son Goku/Hanuman. Maybe there was some other weird sister Galaxy series with Journey to the West kinda stuff in it?
the design for these types of figures was in heavy use in mid 80s. at Kaybee there were a whole bunch of legit DC characters including Warlord, Deimos, and the only DC Machiste, DC Hercules and Arak figures i think that have ever been made
I have seen Iguana with greyish-purple body and limbs, and one where the limbs are off-white only the body is greyish-purple. Not sure if both are Galaxy Fighters, though one came with that armor.
I would think the reason the packaging was changed to not show the 'castle of doom' might have been due to the fact that it was clearly an imitation and possible remold of Masters of the Universe castles.
Id lije to imagine that the galaxy fighters are just galaxy warriors from an alternate demension thus being galaxy warriors of "crisis on infinite earths" it would exsplain the name and design inconsistency. But its just my theory

i had one in the 80s it was well made. the Dragonriders of the Styx 3 3/4" figures from the 80s were inexpensive but also solid.
