I am almost 8 months pregnant and I have been on lovenox the entire time. For 6 months i was on the low dose once a day. The .40 because my doctors would not agree on if i should be on full dose and how often. Fast forward 6 1/2 months, one of my twins died from a clot (most likely). He was healthy otherwise. I have the other twin still healthy, and the very next day my twin died i was placed on high dose lovenox twice a day. Thats when the pain and knots started. Despite having nurse training and speaking to nurses, pharmacists, and physicians. No one could figure out why i keep bruising and getting so many knots everywhere. To add insult to injury the larger doses of lovenox have become torture because of how painful they are, but since i lost one baby i have to continue to push through it… no one has given me any realistic advise on how to manage this situation except you. Actually lovenox is only every 12 hours it does not last 24. Me and everyone i know are 2x daily. But we are doing it due to blood clots but it is only a 12 hour med

I had multiple bone fractures and received the prescription with no instructions; I found one 3 min. video from a hospital with basic step-by-step, then your video which explained that the burning is a normal side-effect. Very informative! If you ever decide to redo or edit this video i have a few tips to add. If you do it this way you wont need to change out the syringe as well. 1. Ice pack before and after for at least 5 minutes. The medicine stings like a mofo without it and if you ice it you feel nothing. Not the poke of the needle or the sting of the med. They are quite literally painless. 2. Remove the air bubble. It says you dont need to, but they lie. It just further expands the area and can and will lead to bruising. 3. If it immediately starts stinging when injecting, pull out and use another spot. 9/10 if i got a bruise its because i ignored this. Once i started, i only had the smallest circle bruises no bigger than a pen cap at the injection site. Never have to worry about finding a non bruised place to inject. Im 25 weeks with twins now and following these tips have made the whole ordeal more bearable. I have APS.
I have anticardiolipin antibodies (IgM), and I'm SO grateful you posted these along with this video. I haven't started the shots yet, but I've been terrified of the pain and it's been giving me so much anxiety. (IVF shots are stressful and painful enough!). Thank you

Im now 10w pp with my twins and it was absolutely worth it to do the shots. Dont let it give you anxiety. Once you do it a dozen times the rest will feel like no big deal
This was very informative and your information is correct. As a pharmacist and also a user of enoxaparin, I agree with all you said and you said it in a practical and effective way. I'm so sorry no one sat you down and told you these things beforehand about the shot (we are trained to do so especially for new patients using something so important like this for the first time) but I'm so glad you found your way through. My one qualm is don't advise people to put their medications into a different syringe. Problems can happen where doses aren't transferred completely or needles don't match the type of subcutaneous injection you need. But, if you were able to do this accurately and safely, and it was helpful to you, I wouldn't stop you. Thank you for your video and I wish you a healthy pregnancy and healthy delivery ❤

Fat easily found 🤣 I've played around with all the tips and found this combo for me (ask Dr for prescription numbing cream (Emla) to numb spot,, quickly insert needle (think dart 🎯), **Super Slow Push** if it hurts right away, pull back slightly and push med more slowly, keep pinched skin after removing needle so can full absorb. Staying still afterwards a few minutes helped me. Hang in there everyone🌤️

Gave myself my 4th dose and it’s getting easier every time. Hi Kelli, thanks for taking the time to post this informative, reassuring video on taking Lovenox. I will try your advice on pinching the fat and holding it until pulling the needle out. I also appreciate the advice on bruising and lumps. One thing that has really helped me is eating protein (3 eggs and a serving of beans) for breakfast before taking the injection. And sitting down at the table during the injection and for 10 minutes afterwards. It doesn’t sting as much.
Just did my first shot- COMPLETELY PAINLESS🎉 A veryyyyy slight burning sensation maybe 1 minute after administering it but that only lasted maybe 3-4 minutes and was very minimal.
1. Choose fatty area- thighs or love handle. 2. ICE at least 10-15mins prior 3. Good for 24hrs. Same time everyday. 4.If needles hurt/ bruising, try insulin Syringes. Do NOT rub!!

My miscarriage last year ended with me hemorrhaging and developing a P.E. So I have to take lovenox to prevent another blood clot. The needles hurt so bad and I wasn’t aware you could do it into your hip/love handle area! Bless I’m gonna try that tomorrow (:

Omgosh thank you so much! I just took my first shot tonight and it was horrible! I did it myself and it took me 20 minutes just giving myself a pep talk to do it, me it burneddddddd soooo bad! I immediately came to TH-cam to find something that might help
It takes me forever too! I haven’t gotten used to it yet, so ill sit there and poke myself over and over again lol. I have to have someone do it. Either my husband or son. If you have someone that could help you that might be better :)
@@meggsk67 I made that comment a couple years ago, but I will say it gets better! I don’t take them anymore because I’m not pregnant anymore my baby is a year old now. But what really helped was icing the spot for a minute before the jab and I couldn’t even feel it! I got pretty quick about doing it. I’m so glad that’s over for me now 🤣
I’m taking lovenox and you mentioned is 24hrs vs warfarin where it’s 12 but my instructions for lovenox is that I take it every 12 hours. Right now I take it 10am and 10pm

I was prescribed Fraxiparine 0.4 because I have 5 mutations not just 1 or 2, however, my prescription is from abroad and here the pharmacies won't honor it. I went today to my PCP, who sent me to a hematologist. Will the hematologist prescribe it or the OBGYN? In the USA things are a bit more difficult. Also, at what point in the pregnancy would that happen? In my country I was prescribed the injections ahead of time. I am afraid here first you need to be on your dying bed before anyone does something about it. Thank you in advance for the reply
I was first prescribed by my hematologist and then the OBGYN took over just because it was easier. And yes, if possible start before the pregnancy. It is harder to get a Dr on board with this in the US, but a good Dr should be willing to help you. Best of luck to you 💖
Thank you so much for this video. I had foot surgery done and I will be non weight bearing for 6 weeks so I'm on Lovonox to prevent blood clots and I have to do it every 12 hours. The needle is so much bigger than I thought! I get so anxious before my injections and they burn really bad. Not to mention I have so many bruises already. I loved the suggestion of buying an insulin syringe. I would have never thought of that. This was so helpful and I'm super thankful for the video!
Hi Alena , same boat as you broke my ankle a few weeks ago and go prescribed this , however my doc told me to use it daily , any reason why they told you ever 12? Hope to hear back from you and hope your doing well and recovering fast !

And my answer is coming from knowing being in nursing school but i think it really just depends on where you had the procedure and how much you're able to move. I really think every doctor is different in what the prescribe too. I hope for a quick and easy recovery for you!

I've tried it both ways. For quite a while we tried to get pregnant again, I would start the lovenox on cycle day 6, as recommended by the Alan Beer Center. The thought is that micro-clots can inhibit implantation, so that is one reason to start before a positive result. However, with this pregnancy I was not trying and not taking lovenox before I got a positive result, so I just started as soon as I knew I was pregnant. Best of luck to you!!
my tip is use an Ice pack or if you don't have an Ice pack near you then use a Fruit from refrigerator 😂 like mango or a cold banana.. it hurts way less if you cool the injecting area..And for knot you need to inject it slowly.. and never Ever ever rub or massage the injection area right after injecting..or even press the area. just hold an alchohol pad very gently. these helped me giving my enaxoparin shots..hope it'll help you to..xoxo ❤
This is a really helpful video but I think the part about Winthrop needles is misleading. I’ve used only those needles and never seen anything other than a perfect needle. I think the most important thing is to find the right skin/fat location to avoid insertion pain. Look for areas that kind of feel less sensitive with more soft fat tissue - you get good at this - and insertion becomes pain free. I’ve noticed lower sides and side love handles are best. The tug and friction comes usually from the location and not the needle itself. Just want to put the Winthrop needle folks at ease. This scared me at first for that element alone. Also let the alcohol dry! Avoids the sting! :)
I was instructed to do it on my stomach or behind my arm. Today was the first time I did it behind my arm and I almost cried. My pain tolerance is high. Never thought it would be so painful 😣

@@seanrowe8894it never got easier for me. Just don’t do it on your arm! On your stomach avoid your veins. That’s when it burns. Stretch out your skin so you can really see. Push slowly. I never not had bruises. Don’t do the same spot in a row. Squeeze as much fat as you can.
My very pregnant abdomen started to get ful of hard bruised nodules. There was nowhere to turn and my *hematologist* confirmed that you can inject it in the arm its where and how that makes it right/wrong. Think the flap that wiggles underneath if you raise your arm at a 90 degree angle. That is all subcutaneous tissue so when you gran that and put your arm down that will be towards the back. (Requires a 2nd person) and thats where you grasp the subcu tissue and inject. Its NOT where IM injections are done. Its the fatty tissue underneath. Also where you can inject insulin, which is a subcu injection. I had to do both under medical guidance.
I have been giving the shots to myself but I have a hard time holding the syringe and pushing down with my thumb. I did it but it is a challenge for me since my hand doesn't turn too well and I have a tiny thumb lol is there another way I could do this or just make my husband do it? He loved giving me the PIO shots when we had to do those lol but doesn't really want to administer these ones.

I have a clotting disorder but my doc said that all lovenox works for only 12 hours! I begged to do one a day but he said it’s not possible bc I’d be without coverage for the remaining 12 even raising my dose. I’m on 40mg (yellow). Now I will say that my IVF doc only said once a day but idk why.
It seems like it depends on the clotting disorder as to how often you need to take it. I know that Dr. Stricker (reproductive immunologist) had initially prescribed me 30mg twice a day but my insurance would only cover once a day, so I ended up doing 40mg once a day. In my case, my OB and hematologist were fine with once a day dose. But I'd go with your doctor even though twice a day sucks! Good luck and I hope the bruising isn't bad for you!
Thanks so much for this video! Just a quick question- I've been taking my injections for about a week now. The last few I've taken have bled a lot from the injection site. Is this normal? (I'm sure it is- but it freaks me out! lol)
It does happen. I think it has to do with randomly hitting a little blood capillary or something. When it would happen to me, I would hold something like a cotton pad on the spot for a while, pushing down until it stops.
@@KelliMiguez thanks so much for your response!! It happened randomly like an hour after my shot yesterday after some light exercise, and today the injection site has been bleeding a bit sense I gave the shot. It’s hard not to get freaked out, lol!
Ps: i have protein 7,8 and S. In case anyone is wondering, and i have already had a cerebral infarction and a myocardial infarction (of which i just found out).

I'm a dude just watching this video to have an idea on how to inject 💉 myself with Lovenox. A few weeks ago I had Open Heart Surgery and they put me on a blood thinner called Warfarin. I hope 🙏 that my surgeon says NO on the Lovenox! I'm fuckin scared 😱 of needles.
I'm really scared of taking those. They gave my 80mg every 12 hours. I'm week 16 on my pregnancy..does it mean I need to continue them until the end or sometime you can stop it in the middle?
I had to take both aspirin and lovenox, so I would listen to your doctor. Sometimes your doctor may stop at some point in the pregnancy. For sure before labor they stop it at least 24 hr prior to any planned delivery. Best of luck to you ✨

I had been experimenting before i watched it as there was one time when the nurse injected me and it was painless and other times it was painful. I came home and realized that fat is the main thing. If you inject it in fat, you won't feel anything at all. I take enoxaparin as I underwent CS and was bed bound for a while, so had to take these shots. Also,I decided to do it early in the morning when I'm still sleepy, so that I'm not that awake and would freak out due to needles. But trust me guys, if you can inject in your fat, you won't feel a thing at all. It is my experience. Sometimes, I'm right on the spot and sometimes not.
I am too.. The more you do it tho, the easier it gets. I just started so I'm still struggling but right after im like "ahhh that actually wasn't that bad, its getting easier" I just get really bad anxiety right b4 I do it, which makes it way worse than it really is.. It's super super important, so you've really gotta do it! Blood clots can kill you. So it's worth it.. The most painful part (for me) isn't the needle at all. Its the medicine itself. It burns a bit & sore but that doesn't last long. Its just for about the 1st 30sec-minute... Good luck!
You should never be telling anybody to take the medication and place it into another syringe. They are prefilled for a reason the air bubble that is within your syringe is to fill the dead space in the needle and ensure that you get the correct dose. Removing your medication and placing it into another device is the worst advice you could ever give anybody and it is dangerous. Not to mention the many other things that you stated that are actually incorrect in your video. I take 80 mg twice a day for life and have been on it for over 3 1/2 years. I also work in the medical industry and if I were you, I would do some correct research and amend a video or take it down.
further to my comment above the needle is a 25 gauge needle. There’s no need to go chasing it up to a 29 when they have the smallest needles ever. This is a completely redundant thing to do.

YES!!! The numbing cream made such a difference!! - plus icing the spot for a good amount of time, right beforehand.

I’m taking lovenox and you mentioned is 24hrs vs warfarin where it’s 12 but my instructions for lovenox is that I take it every 12 hours. Right now I take it 10am and 10pm

Thank you so much for posting this video. It's so helpful! I need to ask though which type of doctor prescribed you the Lovenox. I was prescribed Fraxiparine 0.4 because I have 5 mutations not just 1 or 2, however, my prescription is from abroad and here the pharmacies won't honor it. I went today to my PCP, who sent me to a hematologist. Will the hematologist prescribe it or the OBGYN? In the USA things are a bit more difficult. Also, at what point in the pregnancy would that happen? In my country I was prescribed the injections ahead of time. I am afraid here first you need to be on your dying bed before anyone does something about it. Thank you in advance for the reply
I was first prescribed by my hematologist and then the OBGYN took over just because it was easier. And yes, if possible start before the pregnancy. It is harder to get a Dr on board with this in the US, but a good Dr should be willing to help you. Best of luck to you 💖

Thank you so much for this video. I had foot surgery done and I will be non weight bearing for 6 weeks so I'm on Lovonox to prevent blood clots and I have to do it every 12 hours. The needle is so much bigger than I thought! I get so anxious before my injections and they burn really bad. Not to mention I have so many bruises already. I loved the suggestion of buying an insulin syringe. I would have never thought of that. This was so helpful and I'm super thankful for the video!
Hi Alena , same boat as you broke my ankle a few weeks ago and go prescribed this , however my doc told me to use it daily , any reason why they told you ever 12?

And my answer is coming from knowing being in nursing school but i think it really just depends on where you had the procedure and how much you're able to move. I really think every doctor is different in what the prescribe too. I hope for a quick and easy recovery for you!

I've tried it both ways. For quite a while we tried to get pregnant again, I would start the lovenox on cycle day 6, as recommended by the Alan Beer Center. The thought is that micro-clots can inhibit implantation, so that is one reason to start before a positive result. However, with this pregnancy I was not trying and not taking lovenox before I got a positive result, so I just started as soon as I knew I was pregnant. Best of luck to you!!

MTHFR by itself does require lovenox, so many people have had miscarriages without lovenox.

my tip is use an Ice pack or if you don't have an Ice pack near you then use a Fruit from refrigerator 😂 like mango or a cold banana.. it hurts way less if you cool the injecting area..And for knot you need to inject it slowly..
and never Ever ever rub or massage the injection area right after injecting..or even press the area. just hold an alchohol pad very gently.

The pain isn’t bad. Yeah it stings a little here or there it’s the bruising that I can’t get over. How do we reduces the bruising?
This is a really helpful video but I think the part about Winthrop needles is misleading. I’ve used only those needles and never seen anything other than a perfect needle. I think the most important thing is to find the right skin/fat location to avoid insertion pain. Look for areas that kind of feel less sensitive with more soft fat tissue - you get good at this - and insertion becomes pain free. I’ve noticed lower sides and side love handles are best. The tug and friction comes usually from the location and not the needle itself. Just want to put the Winthrop needle folks at ease. This scared me at first for that element alone. Also let the alcohol dry! Avoids the sting! :)

I was instructed to do it on my stomach or behind my arm. Today was the first time I did it behind my arm and I almost cried. My pain tolerance is high. Never thought it would be so painful 😣

@@seanrowe8894it never got easier for me. Just don’t do it on your arm! On your stomach avoid your veins. That’s when it burns. Stretch out your skin so you can really see. Push slowly. I never not had bruises. Don’t do the same spot in a row. Squeeze as much fat as you can.
My very pregnant abdomen started to get ful of hard bruised nodules. There was nowhere to turn and my *hematologist* confirmed that you can inject it in the arm its where and how that makes it right/wrong. Think the flap that wiggles underneath if you raise your arm at a 90 degree angle. That is all subcutaneous tissue so when you gran that and put your arm down that will be towards the back. (Requires a 2nd person) and thats where you grasp the subcu tissue and inject. Its NOT where IM injections are done. Its the fatty tissue underneath. Also where you can inject insulin, which is a subcu injection. I had to do both under medical guidance.
I have been giving the shots to myself but I have a hard time holding the syringe and pushing down with my thumb. I did it but it is a challenge for me since my hand doesn't turn too well and I have a tiny thumb lol is there another way I could do this or just make my husband do it? He loved giving me the PIO shots when we had to do those lol but doesn't really want to administer these ones.
Which brand of needles are you using now that’s not Winthrop? Curious to see if I can get my pharmacy to change them for me.

I have a clotting disorder but my doc said that all lovenox works for only 12 hours! I begged to do one a day but he said it’s not possible bc I’d be without coverage for the remaining 12 even raising my dose. I’m on 40mg (yellow). Now I will say that my IVF doc only said once a day but idk why.
It seems like it depends on the clotting disorder as to how often you need to take it. I know that Dr. Stricker (reproductive immunologist) had initially prescribed me 30mg twice a day but my insurance would only cover once a day, so I ended up doing 40mg once a day. In my case, my OB and hematologist were fine with once a day dose. But I'd go with your doctor even though twice a day sucks! Good luck and I hope the bruising isn't bad for you!
I think it does depend on the clotting disorder. I ha e to take 100mg of lovenox every 12hrs. I have APS.

Thanks so much for this video! Just a quick question- I've been taking my injections for about a week now. The last few I've taken have bled a lot from the injection site. Is this normal? (I'm sure it is- but it freaks me out! lol)
It does happen. I think it has to do with randomly hitting a little blood capillary or something. When it would happen to me, I would hold something like a cotton pad on the spot for a while, pushing down until it stops.

I'm really scared of taking those. They gave my 80mg every 12 hours. I'm week 16 on my pregnancy..does it mean I need to continue them until the end or sometime you can stop it in the middle?
Also the doctor told me to take with it 2 aspirin a day but the pharmacist told me to try to avoid both of them together I don't know who to trust 😣
I had to take both aspirin and lovenox, so I would listen to your doctor. Sometimes your doctor may stop at some point in the pregnancy. For sure before labor they stop it at least 24 hr prior to any planned delivery. Best of luck to you ✨

Prescribed for me after I had COVID while pregnant
I had been experimenting before i watched it as there was one time when the nurse injected me and it was painless and other times it was painful.
I came home and realized that fat is the main thing. If you inject it in fat, you won't feel anything at all. I take enoxaparin as I underwent CS and was bed bound for a while, so had to take these shots.
Also,I decided to do it early in the morning when I'm still sleepy, so that I'm not that awake and would freak out due to needles.
But trust me guys, if you can inject in your fat, you won't feel a thing at all. It is my experience. Sometimes, I'm right on the spot and sometimes not.

I never had any side effects from lovenox. Not sure if that’s common 🤷♀️

It's super super important, so you've really gotta do it! Blood clots can kill you. So it's worth it.. The most painful part (for me) isn't the needle at all. Its the medicine itself. It burns a bit & sore but that doesn't last long. Its just for about the 1st 30sec-minute...

You should never be telling anybody to take the medication and place it into another syringe. They are prefilled for a reason the air bubble that is within your syringe is to fill the dead space in the needle and ensure that you get the correct dose. Removing your medication and placing it into another device is the worst advice you could ever give anybody and it is dangerous. Not to mention the many other things that you stated that are actually incorrect in your video. I take 80 mg twice a day for life and have been on it for over 3 1/2 years. I also work in the medical industry and if I were you, I would do some correct research and amend a video or take it down.
further to my comment above the needle is a 25 gauge needle. There’s no need to go chasing it up to a 29 when they have the smallest needles ever. This is a completely redundant thing to do.
