    I had a beloved dog recently pass away and before he passed I had a feeling to start feeding our dogs raw. Well since he passed I honestly feel that a raw diet would have been what he needed to prolong his life and probably helped him over all. Unfortunately it took him passing to finally start. Your channel has been extremely helpful. I am slowly switching my other 2 dogs over and right away one dog started eating and getting excited for food. He would typically go a few days without eating. His fur has improved tremendously and his energy level also went right up. He seemed depressed for awhile and since we started switching his food he seems much happier and is more involved with us. He would usually go to another room and sleep. :( So we have started the journey of raw and I will continually be watching your channel. Thank you!!

  • @iMelSchwolow
    @iMelSchwolow 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just curious... I am going to be getting a kitten in the foreseeable future and intend to raise it on a raw diet, but I don't have all the resources available. In doing research, I found a number of brands that offer raw premixes, where they combine all of the nutrients, bone meal, etc and you just have to mix it into ground meat of your choice. What is your opinion on these products?
    Also, another question... a transition period as important for a kitten at 10-12 weeks as important as for an older cat that would be set in their ways?

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kittens can switch to raw cold turkey and do need a balanced diet daily to regulate nutrients as they grow. What product are you talking about exactly?

    Hi! I wanted to hopefully start my senior dog on a raw diet but am not sure if i am doing the calculations right? She is 9 and 56 pounds and activity level moderate. I did the calculations of 56 x 0.02= 1.12, so i would feed her 1.12 lbs of food a day? Also she is a bit overweight so I'm not sure how to determine how much to subtract to have her loose some weight? Sorry if this is a silly question.

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a silly question! In this case, it might be easier to use her 'ideal' weight in the calculation you did rather than her current weight. It's all about troubleshooting. If you think she is losing too much weight, up the %, if she's not losing much at all, lower it.

    I’ve got a 11 week old puppy and I’m thinking of switching her from kibble to raw. She’s been having some upset stomach from the last kibble switch we did, so I’m probably going to transition slowly. What is the cost difference between raw and kibble? what I’ve read is that it can be almost $100 a month whereas kibble is like $40 for a bag that will last like 6 weeks

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on where you source your meats! I find it's about the same as a high quality kibble would be.Sometimes if you get lucky it could be a bit less though. It also depends on your pet's size and activity level.

    Hi I have never owned a dog but I'm getting one and been doing some research on food due to wanting the best life for my pup. My question on raw is can your dog get worms from raw or any bacteria that can harm your dog?

    • @_--Reaper--_
      @_--Reaper--_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm no expert but my advice would be to stay away from pork as they tend to carry alot of parasites (they eat literally anything including faeces) the only reason we can eat them is because we cook them thoroughly (atleast any sane person does) which kills most of the parasites. But its still generally considered an unhealthy meat...
      But your dog's stomach acid should be able to handle the bacteria from most other raw meat as thats what their stomach was originally suposed to be digesting in the first place. It may just take a while (about a week) for the dog's stomach to get used to it if you've been feeding them kibble all their lives. Usually the only symptom is loose stool but after that it should be fine, anything worse than that maybe you should cut back a little and do more research. This is all only from my personal experience by the way...
      If you're switching to raw just feed them raw and don't add any kibble to the meal as their stomach has to release a different (stronger) type of acid to break down raw meat and the mix up may not only cause upset stomach but neither will be absorbed properly.

  • @laurens422
    @laurens422 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My cats have been on the Primal raw premade diet for several years now, though I do also supplement with homemade raw. However, I've been hesitant to go full homemade; are pathogens of any concern with a homemade raw diet? I know the stomach acid of our cats should be able to kick butt on any harmful bacteria, but what about things like worms/flukes or other parasites? Is this fully avoided by good sourcing? Seeing videos of fish with worms and whatnot just has me so on edge as to where and how to source these products and confirm that they're safe for them to eat.

    • @_--Reaper--_
      @_--Reaper--_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As you said their stomach should be able to handle it, but if you're still worried, you can still get deworming tablets (or liquids) every so often...

I feed my cats raw, so there might be some differences when it comes to dogs, but too much of those cuts is often linken to digestive issues. However, taurine is considered water-soluble and most pre-made raw foods for cats overdose taurine quite a bit, so I don't think it is inherently harmful. The whole transition thing is all bullshit one day I threw away my dogs bag of kibble and never looked back started feeding raw 10 years ago and to this day my dog is thriving he’s almost 14 years old and still acts like a young pup he’s full of energy and is ready to exercise every day

      Glad that worked for you and your dog! However, not every dog has the same success and may need a slower transition.

      I did the same, and still feed them kibble few days a month, so they don't forget it :) because when they go to the kennel they eat kibbel for days there, that is the only option there.
      But I have to add that my previous dog didn't eat kibble, didn't tuch raw, or the same meat two days in a row. So there are difficult and sensitive eaters out there

      That's great for you, but your evidence is anecdotal and doesn't speak for all dogs.

    BS , just keep it simple . Chicken , beef , veggies , rice , potatoes , blue berries , . Steam or boil meat or chicken in water for 10 minutes . Keep it simple

      Do you are saying to boil it? I thought it was supposed to be raw ?

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately it's not that simple. That may sound like a great mix for us, but dogs, cats, and ferrets have different nutritional requirements that need to be filled by animal-based parts. They also don't have a need for starchy carbohydrates so if you're going to add it in, it needs to be a very small amount. I go over balancing here: th-cam.com/video/6yDyA0jh-sk/w-d-xo.html and starches here: th-cam.com/video/ix3TsneIF_E/w-d-xo.html

      @@MegaRunnergirl - I think they steam or boil to kill off bacterial contaminants. Steaming & boiling are the cooking methods least likely to kill off healthy enzymes your pets need. Actually, microwaving has been shown to be the most effective at killing 0 enzymes, yet eradicating bacterial contaminants like e.coli & salmonella.
