for the folks curious about these tractors, notice the exhaust that blew forward when he cranked it. That's becuase the fan is set up that way, to blow forward and keep the dir & heat away from the machine and operator. Many had a two piece fan (split) so you could turn m around in cold weather and blow engine heat towards the operator. I am no expert but know a few things from owning, working on'em and operating and I know lots of flks have curiousities about this stuff. In the old dys we didn't have cabs and we woul use an umbrella for shade. Thanks Wes, have fun with your new toy. meow!
Hi Wes nice machine, I guess you should add fearless to Desperado's name if that was him backing the cat off, he wasn't scared of that job. Looking forward to the first project, I'm thinking we're gonna hear a good bit of turbo whistle from her on a big push. As you use your machines for what they where intended for, hard work. I bet there is nothing you run with carbon build up in the motor, you certainly don't have any sleeping Deere power in your tractor fleet, so not expecting any sleeping Kitty cats either ! L.O.L. Regards Robert
Have a Cat 955L over here in Australia, Wes. Bought it back in December to clean out dams during the drought. Ours came with rippers. Bloody useful machine. Plenty of torque from the 3304 and now we aren't thrashing the tractor FEL about.
You need to build a canopy for it then use it to clean fencerows and drag logs out for the woodmizer. How about a woodmizer update. Did you use it much last winter?
A little word of advice when you park that 955 turn the teeth down and put them in the dirt because we don't do that's one day and the starter signore went out and it was all most impossible to get to it with the bucket flat to the ground ant trying tell you what to do
new restoration project or she gonnan be out odig stuff id say for loading the bales but u have the little deere for that or do ya want something that can take heavier loads ????
so do the new cat's I work for cat so at 20 years old I get to play with a 226b3 skid steer all the way to the d11 dozer I love the sound of the new c32s
oh the things i could do with that ole cat,, ole girl was quiet or seemed to be other than motor, I was surprised to not hear the tracks go clank clank clank as they turned,, cant wait for the next video on her,,, and if that was desperado,, i think he was reliving rodeo days of bull riding the way he threw his arm around,, lol,, great video wes thanks,,
I use to run an old 977 to push up millings and load trucks with I was ok couldn't dig anything to grade with it but it was a tough old loader it was kinda fun to run that old dionsaur
The Bell Crank Pin has come out at some point probably due to lack of grease hence dry bush and the Twisting action shears the retaining bolts !! hence the damage to the Loader Tower
My kinda machine - been a Cat dozer and trackloader guy my whole life. Cant wait to see more on this and if ya need any tips or help on a resto of this old traxcavator, Id be more than happy to help!
Really nice condition for the age. I operate heavy equipment and help my uncles construction company. And may I say I have a soft spot in my heart. For nice shape old equipment. I would like to have it. I am a great welder and I would put some new grouser's on it and paint it, make a canopy for it, and put a new smoke stack on it. NICE BUY!!!
I've cut a few of those up when I worked in a CAT graveyard. Also a lot of 951 A, B and some 951C. Those stick shift machines were a handful to drive :o)
Wes, my guess is that you got this outside of Greenwich in Stewartsville,(Stewartsville Rd) maybe a mile or so from Rossini Racing Products? Btw nice sneakers lol
***** they sould still have them, go find what ur looking 4, then put ur zip code in, they"ll find 1 that will be close 2 u. thats what i did 2 help find me a john deere 2520 that was close 2 me. :)
1st loader I learn how to operate was Dads & Pops (grandfather) 955L Cat . Spent many a day in the operators seat loading trucks . (ours had 15" or 16" pads on the undercarriage & a 2.5 Yd GP Bucket . Ole 955K Looks like it may had a bit of a hard life but a little TLC Will take care of that . A 955 Is about 28,000 lbs (14 tons) A 977 Is about 42,000 lbs (About 21 tons ) & a 983 is about 62,000 LBS . (31 tons) I was looking @ the Prices of a 955 & 977 Cat the other day & I gotta say those & the ole D6D' Cats are still holding their value after all these years . id rather own an older machine . a lot easier to work on compared to the newer machines w/ emission's & computers .
Reminds me of 9 years ago when I used to run the same vintage 955 twice a week for a year it was fun until one day the machine caught fire a week after I had the engine out did a bunch of work to it and back together. They are a good old loader, decent amount of power ya the are heavy your old single axle flat deck must have been sucking the hind tit pulling it.
hi wes. i watched this vid when you first posted it. was always curious as what happened to it. did it get restored, sold, or just had a quick service and put back to work?
so what was the story you started but you didnt get to finish. is it yours or your leaveing it sit on your property you didnt get finish payment or somthing. sounds interesting plz finish thks
If you guys lived closer to me i would gladly come out with my truck and tools and service and even help you with a restoration on the cat love these old monsters anyways its great piece of equipment and well like all cat I was not surprised with ho well it started first try cheers if you ever need halp or hav questions feel free to ask me
You know a guy has a deer problem when he brings a track loader home.... What machine gun are you going to mount on it? Cant wait for the build and to see how it works. I think it will be slick you can dig a hole go out and kill hundreds of deer and you can just scoop them up and dump them in the hole
Is this the one from about when I joined I thought it had some head problems Diesels still work the same suck it in squeeze it squirt some phuel in get out of the way and poot it out repeat just all the support staff is electronic nowadays You could move some serious dirt with it and the Cat loader
That thing sure started up easy for sitting as long as it did! Looks like a fun toy too
Hadn't set THAT long. It had mud on the tracks.

Very first machine I ever ran was one of these. Scared the hell out of me. Do believe I had 5 heart attacks that day..
Now the most improtant question???? What you going to do with it???? I see destruction of something in the future.
That is an awesome piece old iron! Sounds great! Shouldn't need to much work other than maybe an oil change and a few cylinder rebuilds. Enjoy!
also probably some tlc all over it and a fresh coat of paint
That sure is one heck of an experience backing one of those on or off of a trailer
You need to build a canopy for it then use it to clean fencerows and drag logs out for the woodmizer. How about a woodmizer update. Did you use it much last winter?
I am 19 and I run a 955l
I love watching your videos
A little word of advice when you park that 955 turn the teeth down and put them in the dirt because we don't do that's one day and the starter signore went out and it was all most impossible to get to it with the bucket flat to the ground ant trying tell you what to do
Nice cat - what will you do with it? Dig a pond? Move & pack sileage?
i hope u guys r going 2 rebuild it. :)
Really nice soundin cat. she's been worked hard and put away wet. but daggum that sounds great
I used to have a CAT 1952 D2, sold it a few years ago. The 955 is based on the D4 Dozer tractor
new restoration project or she gonnan be out odig stuff id say for loading the bales but u have the little deere for that or do ya want something that can take heavier loads ????
The cleat marks that you put into that oak deck....I tossed scrap 2x10s onto my wood deck to protect it from the grousers.
Nice old crawler, you should start your own construction company call it Flintstone construction. Lol
Love the sound of the old cat. Now I can't wait to see what you are up to.
old cats and deere always sound good wish that engine was in my truck
I think the old peterbilt would be very underpowered, they only put out 130hp. but i do agree the cat was the best engine ever made.
it would be for my 79 f150
so do the new cat's I work for cat so at 20 years old I get to play with a 226b3 skid steer all the way to the d11 dozer I love the sound of the new c32s
What do you do for cat
inspector, yard manager and service tech in training
Expecting alot of snow next winter Wes? Or is this your next tractor rebuild? Some info in description would be helpful.
There are a few of those CAT's around my area most have the same problem "leaky cylinders" seals get old and dirt gets in. A good find :)
oh the things i could do with that ole cat,, ole girl was quiet or seemed to be other than motor, I was surprised to not hear the tracks go clank clank clank as they turned,, cant wait for the next video on her,,, and if that was desperado,, i think he was reliving rodeo days of bull riding the way he threw his arm around,, lol,, great video wes thanks,,

sounds real good for sitting that long.i would like to find one myself.
The Bell Crank Pin has come out at some point probably due to lack of grease hence dry bush and the Twisting action shears the retaining bolts !! hence the damage to the Loader Tower
when did you get the flatbed truck you were pulling the trailer with?
Beast, that's a Gert big bucket on the front!
My kinda machine - been a Cat dozer and trackloader guy my whole life. Cant wait to see more on this and if ya need any tips or help on a resto of this old traxcavator, Id be more than happy to help!
I'd buy that wheel loader too!
I'd love to have that Kubota Tractor
always amazes me how old diesel machinery like that can fire right up and drive off after being left outside all winter for years
I would like the mower tires from that Kubota
Whoa...thats got some serious road gears! What does it do. ..3...4 mph? Lol
Nice kitty Cat shovel dozer,
going to repair some field erosion with that bad boy ?
Really nice condition for the age. I operate heavy equipment and help my uncles construction company. And may I say I have a soft spot in my heart. For nice shape old equipment. I would like to have it. I am a great welder and I would put some new grouser's on it and paint it, make a canopy for it, and put a new smoke stack on it. NICE BUY!!!
Thats a nice kitty cat. I love the sound of those turbos. now i want to see you bulldoze some stuff with it.
wat about the one near the hay stack?
I've cut a few of those up when I worked in a CAT graveyard. Also a lot of 951 A, B and some 951C. Those stick shift machines were a handful to drive :o)
Had an old 955 with a pony motor. started it with a rope. Best money can buy.
Wes, my guess is that you got this outside of Greenwich in Stewartsville,(Stewartsville Rd) maybe a mile or so from Rossini Racing Products? Btw nice sneakers lol

i like ur new toy...maybe you could have a tug of war with the 8120 & the cat...
Thanks Wes, sounds as though she needs a good service and some TLC!
Killer video!!! Keeps those coming for sure!! :)
What did you pick up the cat for a guy down the street from me has a track loader cat similar to that but bigger never uses it either
What's the plans with this big boy ?
Is that a newholland windrower in the background!? lol
hi wes. i watched this vid when you first posted it. was always curious as what happened to it. did it get restored, sold, or just had a quick service and put back to work?

Is this how you plan on taking those silos down?
We used to have the same exact loader
Now find a blade or a brush bucket for the front.
Who's the guy driving the dozer ???
Stinks to see all the other equipment just sitting and rotting...
We have the same cat on our farm it doesn't run though
What u guys going to do whith that old monster

Does that guy wanna sell that kubota hidden in the weeds
You know a guy has a deer problem when he brings a track loader home.... What machine gun are you going to mount on it? Cant wait for the build and to see how it works. I think it will be slick you can dig a hole go out and kill hundreds of deer and you can just scoop them up and dump them in the hole
First view awsome
that started quick
Going to trash that kubota? What's wrong with it?
I see squashed stuff :)
nice old cat
Yall should fire up the kubota I'm in need of a tractor at a decent price
Nice highlift, now what are you gunna do with it?
scary! why does this thing have no ROPS??? safety first! nice old iron.
some people remove the ROPS soo they can go under things better, or just becuz they dont want it. :)
That is about a 1970 model, ROPS was not an option, I had a 1971 977K no ROPS steering pedals and a side dump bucket.
Is this the one from about when I joined I thought it had some head problems
Diesels still work the same suck it in squeeze it squirt some phuel in get out of the way and poot it out repeat just all the support staff is electronic nowadays
