Man, that dialogue to Lagras... It explains so much details about Dutch's thoughts and Arthur's. Seems like Micah's manipulation was beginning to make Dutch forget all those years of Arthur's trust
Yup. This missions intro cutscene with Hosea also leads me to believe that it wouldn't have mattered much if Hosea had lived, because Dutch's descent into madness was inevitable. Dutch didn't like anyone doubting him, and Hosea was clearly against his more risky motives since the beginning of the game with the Cornwall train up to this point with revenge against Bronte ... and if Dutch turned on Arthur for his doubting, despite knowing him for 20 years, he would have turned on Hosea too.
Agreed. I also find it quite interesting the way Dutch split up during this mission. Although he was clearly scared, he should've gone with Arthur whom he knew for a long time instead of picking Thomas whom he met recently
@@Rude_Boi Yes it would have. One a argument where Dutch is disagreeing with Hosea isn't the end of the world. In fact I doubt that this isn't the first time that they've had this kind of argument. With or without Micah in the gang.
If I were Arthur, I would have brought up the situation when he told Dutch not to meet up with Colm but he did anyways, then got all messed up but still escaped and came back to warn Dutch that they were gunning for him. He owes Arthur more than what hes giving him here in this dialogue

He had the same reaction at the ending when Arthur says he gave Dutch all he had.

My family stays out in a place that was once a swamp, so they get a lot of wildlife out where they are. There's even gators showing up on golf courses down here. Lol.
SPOILER ALERT!!!! "You'll damn us all!" --Hosea Matthews He is soooo effing right, I mean look what happened at the end of the game lol. I bet after Bronte got killed, the law somehow found out about Bronte (maybe through a Bronte member) and so they prepared. Probably that's how they were able to somehow find Hosea after he made that distraction for the bank heist. They were waiting for a possible thing like a bank robbery to happen sooner or later. If Bronte wasn't killed, mayyyybee the bank heist would have been successful, although they were already loud in front of the law. Rockstar knows best lol.
The gang should’ve immediately left right after being ambushed by the O’ Driscolls. That way, Dutch wouldn’t have gotten his head hit, and Hosea and Lenny would still be alive and well.
During the bank heist while the guys are waiting for Hosea’s distraction if you look at the front of the bank There were men waiting and saw the van der lined gang which implies the pinkertons knew this was gonna happen and waited and that’s when everything fell apart
Bronte already had the Pinkertons and Police tipped off especially since they survived the trolley setup. Dead or alive they still would've gotten ambushed at the bank. Killing Bronte doesnt make this happen, it was happening anyway. Kudos to Dutch for feeding that meatball to the gators.
An underappreciated detail is how you've been in the water the whole time, so your guns are dirty, prone to jamming, and take forever to reload... at a time where you absolutely want them to be fast.
What I like is the attention to detail when Jules gets attacked. Like how he sounds dizzy after getting attacked. Possibly because of the alligator’s death roll tactic.
No idea why there aren't more comments about this, but I found the time limit to be almost impossible in third person. The trick is to go into first person when Jules gets dragged under and mash Y/triangle until Arthur gets out the boat. From there you shouldn't leave first person mode, as it seems to drastically increase your movement speed in the water. Go directly to Jules, you shouldn't even need to mash A/X to sprint, in my experience I hit max speed by just holding the left stick forward. When he goes under again and you're given a search area, stay exactly in the middle of it and wait for him to resurface, looking round with the right stick to make sure you're aware as soon as it happens. From there as long as you wade in straight lines you should be fine. If you fail the time limit, just tap left on the d-pad, navigate into the mission and then hold X/square to abandon, then A/X to retry checkpoint.
If you do the part where you have to get him to the boat quickly in first person mode you're guaranteed gold. It seems Arthur moves really quickly in first person.
For those trying it on replay, it is possible without even leveling up stamina. You just time yourself as soon as you press Y or triangle to jump off the boat and if you're above 1'40'' when you get back, abandon and retry checkpoint : saves a LOT of time. As for the running, keep going forward to the edge of the zone when jules disappears.
I got in on replay. Just spam Y or Triangle when the scene comes beforehand and run only in straight lines. Jules appeared both times on the right from where he disappeared. I think the stamina thing doesn't actually slow you here despite being zero.

I thought I was going crazy. This was the first time I’ve ever failed to get gold on this mission in about 10 playthroughs and I failed 3 times in a row and of course it happens when I’m going for all golds
I wish Arthur said something like “Really? I’m the one always bailing you out of the fights you start” when Dutch said Arthur was more of a joker than a gunslinger
Fun fact: if you shoot the big alligator with enough dynamite arrows, it will die. It isn't supposed to happen, so you just keep being in the boat. I've tried to sink the boat, the shoot the lantern of the outpost of Lagras. Turns you can only abandon the mission.
This mission one of the biggest proofs that dutch wasn't selfish he was ready to put his ass on freaking swamps which full of gators just to get to see himself and the gang in tahiti he could just abandon them and run away with that boat owner but he didn't

This game continues to amaze me everytime I play it, although sometimes the realism makes me angry in the sluggishness of some actions but whatever. the main thing is that it's so much like a movie or T.V. show I've even made a cinematic series out of it! currently at episode 9, but I need to catch up to GTA Series Videos lol. Great video BTW!
“I am here Ain’t I ? I have been at your side for twenty years “ ! This guy is just casually checking traps for fish in the middle of the night in the swamps like he does it all the time. Meanwhile I dare walk around the swamps at sunset and I get ambushed all the time by the night folk.
also a tip: Do not spam deadeye on the Bullgator, since it actually requires Dutch also to shoot it a couple of times to drive it off. If you do no matter how many times you hit it, If Dutch hasn't shot it it will just keep approaching the boat till it grabs Arthur
This is my first playthrough of the game and i haven't reached this level yet, but always knew that Hosea was always the brain of the group, if only there's a choice to save him...
It takes TEN minutes. TEN minutes to get to the point where you get one shot at saving Jules, with no skips, checkpoints or anything. SIX ATTEMPTS AN HOUR for a gold medal with this shit. Florida resident here. I've been fortunate enough to never have encountered a gator, but my uncle, God rest his soul, once had one show up on his doorstep. SPOILER ALERT!!!!
"You'll damn us all!" --Hosea Matthews
He is soooo effing right, I mean look what happened at the end of the game lol.
@@ДанилоГромяк Bell informed Pinks after he came back from Guarma.
@Eftinoiu Eduard I never stated otherwise
The gang should’ve immediately left right after being ambushed by the O’ Driscolls. That way, Dutch wouldn’t have gotten his head hit, and Hosea and Lenny would still be alive and well.
During the bank heist while the guys are waiting for Hosea’s distraction if you look at the front of the bank
There were men waiting and saw the van der lined gang which implies the pinkertons knew this was gonna happen and waited and that’s when everything fell apart
This is one of my favorite missions in the game. The atmosphere is just perfect in this mission
Nah it’s one of the worst

An underappreciated detail is how you've been in the water the whole time, so your guns are dirty, prone to jamming, and take forever to reload... at a time where you absolutely want them to be fast.
yeah its underappreciated for a reason, cowpoke.
Ok
God amongst men, appreciate it friend
I played it several times in third and first person. No chance, the time limits are stupid and i hate this game more and more. Shit developers!
thanks, bro. It worked. I moved in FPS towards Jules and then back to the boat with him.

i like the way thomas says: “big ones is lazy”
Scary mission.
"i wanna see you meet your match when it comes to a ancient predator with a big mouth, Dutch"
goddamn accurate.
ps: RDR2 horror vibes >>> any horror video games 2018 'til now.
This is when Arthur is losing his faith in Dutch and his descend into madness
What scares me the most is that Dutch hasn't been wrong, per say, just has problems planning it out.
18:02 i made a mistake of looking behind me and just saw a huge ass gator head swimming its way towards me ignoring Dutch's gunshots. Honestly made a chill run down my spine
The conversation Dutch has to Arthur really shows a turning point in Dutch’s paranoia this part into the story. its truly terrifying how he is manipulating Arthur or atleast not letting Arthur defend himself in any way. How the music gives the player a under-my-skin feeling on this ride… rdr2 ily

Me: ok but he DIDNT even go with the gang to kill bronte.

Probably the funniest joke of the entire game.
Too right.
Turns you can only abandon the mission.
you can kill it in chapter 6. It's the legendary bull gator
This mission one of the biggest proofs that dutch wasn't selfish he was ready to put his ass on freaking swamps which full of gators just to get to see himself and the gang in tahiti he could just abandon them and run away with that boat owner but he didn't
Ever since going into Killer Croc's lair in Batman: Arkham Asylum, I've begun viewing crocodiles as the most terrifying aquatic creature out there, even above Great Whites.
Arthur tells Dutch that he has been at his side for 20 years at 5:40 and and Dutch tells Arthur i know... I... I... am sorry son and when Dutch said the others I can take but when you're not behind me it hurts at 6:00

Puneet Kumar Thomas saying “good eating” in that context could mean one of two things:

2) gators attack and eat humans
Hence why Dutch asked “us or them?”
On Replay mission. I found it out how to tricky! Do skip checkpoint. Its works! Don't need save him. But you must shoot at alligator after jules In boat. Start mission. You can skip checkpoint until you see alligator then shoot it. That very easy!

Heck. Maybe at the setting of the us civil war time.
This guy is just casually checking traps for fish in the middle of the night in the swamps like he does it all the time.

also a tip: Do not spam deadeye on the Bullgator, since it actually requires Dutch also to shoot it a couple of times to drive it off.
If you do no matter how many times you hit it, If Dutch hasn't shot it it will just keep approaching the boat till it grabs Arthur
Does the part where Arthur runs back to the boat remind you of the pier scene in Jaws?
I thought I was the only one that caught on to that
This is my first playthrough of the game and i haven't reached this level yet, but always knew that Hosea was always the brain of the group, if only there's a choice to save him...
Actually that gator could’ve done a lot worse, from what I saw, it just skinned his leg. It was big enough to tear his entire body limb from limb.
Another BS time mission that you do perfectly but some how get silver
I can't begin to explain how many missions this game has screwed me for gold yet I'm still trying for the 70 gold
It takes TEN minutes. TEN minutes to get to the point where you get one shot at saving Jules, with no skips, checkpoints or anything. SIX ATTEMPTS AN HOUR for a gold medal with this shit. It's unbelievable how padded an already very long game is and how it forces you to try, try, try and try again. I'm amazed at how little respect for your time Red Dead 2 has.
