Probably, but Francis is rather notoriously frugal and takes Church funds rather seriously as he appreciates more than most the sacrifices that people endure to provide those funds. It might be pennies for the Church, but for many of the parishoners who donated them, those were the only pennies they had. If his career in Argentina is anything to go by, caring for and properly disposing of those donations is not a duty that Francis takes lightly.

On the Vatican City side, there were lush manicured gardens with fountains and water falls, palm trees by the scores, blooming flowers everywhere, paved streets, people walking around in flowing white and red robes, a Cadillac Limousine driving toward the building and I thought to myself, how is this fair that on one side of this magnificent building there is such wealth and beauty and on the other side people are living in squalor and poverty, yet they give what little they have to help support the church!! Of course they could, and should. The catholic church is a business, as are other relgions. If they accept donations from believers in cash or credit card each and every church should give the donor a receipt for the amount and declare this income to the tax offices. As it stands they operate totally under the radar like mafias!
That's not how it works, the income the church receives is purely indulgences or in basic words charity. The church doesn't have a fixed income because it's NOT a business. It's like requesting a charity organization to declare their fixed income when there's no need for them to declare one at all because they're not a business. But if you were to sum the property value of the Church then you might get a glimpse of how extremely wealthy the Church is. No one has calculated the property value yet, you might be the first.

Many believe that during World War II priests and Vatican insiders knew about Nazi concentration camps that housed and killed Jews, but they remained silent and worked with and helped Nazis and their sympathizers to bank and hide millions of dollars, valuable art, and antiques. Scholars and lawyers have long felt that during World War II, the Vatican Bank profiteered from money laundering; selling stolen Nazi loot; and buying and selling Jewish refugees’ insurance policies after they were killed in death camps. In order to benefit the church, its leaders use suppressive measures to bypass, ignore, or tolerate Nazi crimes.
In the year 2000, Church pardoned the debt of all catholic institutions around the world. That it's simple someone is stealing in the coffers which they was trying to take care of by bringing in outside help but because of very old customs anything that try to reform that will affect their livelihood that they benefits from hundreds of years. which can undermine the whole existence of the Roman Catholic Church which serve no purpose in today's society and the last thing they want is people asking more question in regards to that. such as them enriching themselves from people that have very little means as well as the cover-up of sexual abuse of children. If you look AT the evidence, he would never have had the time for any of what he was accused of.
And the fact there were so many people in that area of the church, at the time it supposedly happened, completely ruled out, even the possibility of such an action.
Considering it was his first mass as a Bishop, he had a person with him (not a couple of Choir boys), to help with vestments.
And even his accuser said in the end, that he was coerced into bringing the charges.
The testimony was from one, the other had passed away before any accusations were brought.

I imagine that the Vatican can absorbe a £100 million lost without breaking a sweat.

It's a big business
The fact that the investments in the Athena fund and the London property were advised by Credit Suisse, now in 2024 makes a lot of sense.
Churches are non profit
