    Billy Corgan is the primary force behind Smashing Pumpkins, but it would just be another rock band without Jimmy Chamberlain on drums. His unique drumming "voice" is instantly recognizable and an integral part of the Smashing Pumpkins sound.

      I remember seeing them twice in 1996 without Jimmy and leaving those shows just feeling like.......Meh. Saw them in 1993, and twice in 1994. Totally different experience. Jimmy, no doubt, was their Neal Peart and Bonham. The rest of the band was anchored by his precision drumming and that groove. He was always perfect when I saw him live. Saw them again in 1999 at Spreckles in San Diego, with Jimmy, and it's like they were back. Best drummer of my generation IMO. And yes, been thinking that since 1991 also.

      @CajunRulez ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I remember listening to Gish when I was sixteen, right at the beginning of the Seattle explosion, and instantly being drawn to the drumming. I'd practice on my little used 4 piece Ludwig for hours just trying to grasp the left handed buzz rolls, ghost notes, and keeping the meter with the hi-hat. Jimmy's just a beast. He definitely pushed me to be better. It was the little things that caught my ear; the way Jimmy just filled in all the gaps so fluently, not the big fills. Still my favorite.

    Grew up idolising Jimmy, still do to this day. Great rock/fusion/grunge drummer, imo he's the best of that 90's grunge/rock era, and there were some great drummers on that scene. Cherub Rock, Today, Bullet with butterfly wings, tonight tonight, I am one, Geek USA, all of which have that inimitable Jimmy flavour. The guy is a God to me, and it's my honest opinion that his technique is getting better.

    What I think gets really overlooked about Jimmy - and imo makes him into the best rock drummer of all time - is how amazing his dynamic control is even at high speeds. The great dichotomy in talking about rock drumming is whether you play crazy wild stuff and risk dominating the song or keep it simple and risk not contributing as much as you could. Jimmy completely transcends that. He plays drumlines that would make Keith Moon blush but he plays them with such precise dynamics that they blend perfectly into the riff, and you don't even notice them half the time until you wonder why a fairly straight forward stretch of music sounds so amazing.

    I watched these guys recently, I was so impressed by his drumming. I always knew of his talent. Having seen Neil Peart, and Danny Carey live. I’d say he’s right up there in talent and intensity. In my top 3 favourite drummers if seen live for sure, and what a beauty of kit he has.

    Always good to see Jimmy doing his thing. And that’s the point. It’s his f’ing thing and anyone that plays knows it’s him immediately. His ability to play for a song without diminishing the melody or structure while still imprinting the song 110% makes him, still to this day, one of the best rock drummers. Best part about him is that he can also swing like a monster. That’s where he came from. As a sober addict for 20 years myself, it’s also just beautiful to see him in better shape now then he’s ever been. Hats off to a legend. Full stop.

    One of my favorite drummers, perhaps my favorite. He has a very distinctive sound and alongside Billy’s guitar, it is the sound of the Pumpkins.
