Nuclear energy is very very complicated and costly. Maintenance requires tons of experts which Germany no longer has, you also need many different organisations being involved. Eg Russian Rosatom takes over everything because they do everything from supply, disposal or waste safety etc. countries prefer to outsource it as it is insanely costly especially if you have a big country. Eg France has a problem because they don’t have capabilities for disposal so they just store it somewhere hoping one day they will figure it out.

Whether the EU is affected by the termination of Russian gas depends on many factors. Obviously people who "live" the situation would be the best to ask how things go.
If I am an American, I am likely to say "It is going really, really well. Better than expected!". Why? Because we are selling gas to those suckers at more than 3 times the price they used to pay to the Russians, and now the EU is dependent on the US for gas too.
If I am a German, I am likely to say "Scheiße". Why? I am paying more, much more for my gas at home. My buddy Wolfgang and Gerhard lost their job, and I am on a reduced salary, potentially losing my job at the end of 2025.
Year 2025 is going to be even harsher for the EU than the three past years. So if anyone doing song and dance about how great and how normal the EU still is, that chap is likely to be an American. Why? Because America is racking in the money from selling gas to the EU.
