- This is an overexplanation of a mechabellum I played in low rank. I try to give my thoughts about everything that's going on in the game. It's my first video of this kind so it was a bit hard for me and I'm sure I missed a bunch of stuff.

Exactly what I want from an Overexplained video. The nitty gritty of positioning is the thing that gets glossed over in live videos.
This is one of the best tutorials for the game I've seen. Great job. You covered positioning, counters, economy, all the core aspects of the game.

This was amazing. Thanks in part to your videos (also, cub's, shoutout to him :D ) I'm at a higher MMR by now than what I suspect you would think is the target audience for these kinds of content, but I feel I learned plenty and enjoyed it immensely. It's like you're revealing an intricate structure of a game plan formed by lots of small decisions...makes me want to play the game and try to apply your concepts. Thanks a lot!

Enjoyed the overexplained! I always loved listening to these for Slay the Spire and mechabellum has a lot of potential board states that could be fun to analyze.

I second this. I've heard you say things like "all these choices suck" or "this is the only playable choice" but I'd love a little bit on what makes a starting choice good or bad!

Great video, would love to see more, maybe focusing on specific strategies :) One thing I personally would like to see is positinioning logic explained, i see many of your high MMR games you place aggressively in a specific pattern, the inner units slightly further back, you're counting squares, etc. but I don't know why. I remember someone elses video explaining the ball mustang crawler push positinioning helped me immensely by explaining the logic why exactly place X vertical, why place Y this many squares away from the previous one etc. similarly how you described your checkerboard pattern with crawlers storms here.

Loved the guide/tips videos, would love a video about playing aggressive/defensively/standard and pros/cons of each of them, could be pretty interesting!
Not sure if I have anything relevant to say about it. The power level of each style depends a lot on the starting compositions on round 1. Some comps need to be played aggressively against some comps. And vice versa. It depends a lot on the current metagame which style is better currently. For example right now a defensive play that features Vulcans is a lot more consistent than any kind of aggro, but I suspect it will change with the next big patch.
This was a very good video, thank you form making the time, and for the content overall. One the topic of overexplaining, the one thing I learned from the experience of teaching math that seems trivial to me, is that you can never (really, almost never) overexplain.
You've changed my whole play-style for the better. No longer am I picking a cookie cutter build based on starting units and trying to preempt the inevitable counter. Now I'm throwing curve-balls at the other player each round and picking specifically into weaknesses in their build. Attempting to find a unit worth selling each round, killing off countered units.
I'm still making a lot of mistakes and missing a lot of gaps in my defense / correct solutions but I'm enjoying the opportunity to think differently and I'm growing a lot as a player.
What I've learned here is a better APPROACH which you've demonstrated by talking through your thinking process and what you see in the board.
Also, thanks VM for MechaMonarch's unit counter guide. That's been my goto resource for a long time as well.

probably one of the best videos out there on how to think in mechabellum ! I would love more like this. Nowadays when almost all Streamers who explained well did quit its actually pretty hard to find up to date game narrations

I don't know precisely who your intended audience for your channel is, but as a brand new player, I learned way more from this than pretty much anything else. Other videos might be more immediately actionable (eg the simple rules to follow one,) but this one taught me far more. Maybe selfish of me because I imagine most of your viewers are more experienced than me, but I'd still absolutely love to see more like this.
Thanks! I will do more of these. Nice to have more new players. My goal is to make simple and useful guides for different ranks of play so people have a track to follow from low ranks to high ranks. Other than that I provide high rank gameplay and hope people from different ranks learn different things they can incorporate in their game. When I started playing this game I had a lot of ideas for different guides but along the way I enjoyed playing a little too much so I didn't have time to start a youtube channel. Once I did, I forgot all my ideas. So it's hard for me to connect with new players because I don't remember anymore what kind of things I questioned the most

Videos like this are really useful. General discussion of principles is good but when you show evolving strategic or tactical situations and show exactly what principles can or should be applied in that situation, that's when the viewer can deeply learn the principles in the sense of knowing when and how to apply them.
Personally I'm really bad at flanking and I'm sure I'm not alone, I think you could do a video just on principles of flanking - when and how to flank against different board states, knowing when to strengthen or abandon a flank attempt, and also defending against particularly dangerous flanking tactics.

I really appreciate this video. I've always been puzzled by your positioning choices and wished you would explain them. I don't think this is overexplaining. However, I think it would be more enjoyable if you kept the replay at full speed, even though it limits the amount of explanation you can fit in. That might get easier once you've gotten more experience doing this kind of video.

Thanks for the explanation. Very well explained! I learned a few things from this, and your thought process on why you're doing things with positions and controlling the enemy's actions.
I know how hard it is to explain something that comes intuitively or with out conscious thought. I'm a chef and when people ask me for a recipe for the soup I just made, I'm like ya you put the flavors in and add stuff till your soul tells you it's enough. I have gotten better at it now that I'm in a position to teach others, but at first it's very hard to switch gears.

That's how I make my soups as well, just throw some stuff in until it tastes good. I suspect I might not be that good at it though. Can't get my tom yum soup to taste right

I don't think you have to worry about getting into too much details as those details is why anyone would watch this type of video.
It really helps players of all levels as it's hard to learn from watching uncommented game play as while you can see what is done so is it not easy to see why something was done unless you already knew why in advance.
Amazing video. Very good analysis, love to hear your thoughts about all the little details - about the flanks, chaff trickling, countering, thinking 2 turns ahead (he goes vulcan, you go melter).
The only annoying thing is the interface for doing replay analysis - this is not on you! the game should have some easy pause, back forward buttons. They should totally improve this in the game - it would unlock way more good content creation
Yea I wish they would even add a pause button. I assume it wouldn't be that difficult to code even if you want to allocate production resources elsewhere

Can you elaborate on the specialists more? Why was the Cost Control with crawler / sledgehammers not viable? And this was back when Cost Control was your #1 specialist on rankings I believe.
sledges were not good at the time if i remember correctly
Why was that the "only playable specialist"? I tend to focus more on the specialist than the unit and marksman is pretty low on my list so I guess your criteria are different. Is it because that's the only specialist that came with anti-air from the start? Is it about the unit combo? That could certainly have used some explanation.
Personally I look at the specialist and also hope to get units with similar movement speed just because that's easier to manage for a noob like myself when placing them on the field, but even if you don't get an ideal unit combo, I thought the first few rounds aren't too important?
Following his own advice, only two specialists in that list have chaff, and the other is crawler sledgehammer. Not sure if cost control sledges are bad but sledges miht be the reason he didn't like it

I think its a good video but in a way you are playing vs someone who just isnt very good at understanding what units to use when, i would love to see an overexplain video aimed at higher rated play where your skill comes more into play!
The whole point is that lower MMR players are complaining that they see wild stuff at their rank and higher mmr players just dont do anything like that. Im sure he'll do stuff like that in the future but it was the whole point of this vid
hmm.. but nothing wild happened here, looked a little like being heavily outplayed - you could probably play whatever comp vs that player and do well at RATs skill level, its not a bad video but i think it doesnt showcase actual strategy or nuanced play... I could be wrong @@G3arsguy529
