Thank you for t his! I was considering putting a large dirted tub outside next spring and putting aquarium plants into it. I'm in california so I ought to have some good growth. And I was thinking of adding my aquarium water to the tub(s) after i exchange aquarium water (and some other nutrients of course). It's worth a shot! I might be surprised! Bentley, this video has given me more encouragement~ THANK YOU.again.
I feel like Java Fern would be the broader appeal, but crypt jacobsenii pink grows faster for me, so it's probably the plant i could do the best with. Thanks for another great video Bentley!
I bought the moss from you to provide some cover for the fish I had bought, in a 5 gallon bucket in the hotel. It's in a ten gallon now doing really good. The Java fern is in a shrimp tank and looks great.
Java fern is one of my favorite plants in the hobby. I find pieces of torn up pieces that teenager fish rip off and I toss the pieces in a hospital tank where they start to heal and regrow. I wouldn’t get rich selling Java fern, but at least my ornery fish wouldn’t kill them before a show. I did have a plant question for you. I have one sword plant that has some kind of beautiful marbling on the leaves- would you be familiar with what variety that might be?
Still waiting for the update telling us Danger Noodle towels are available for purchase! Chances that I'll make it to an event you attend are low since I'm in the other side of the country, but I'd love a towel as a gift for my fella's holiday gift 😁
I grow a ton of Java Fern Wendelove and some other plant that I purchased from from all places a Meijer department store. At another time I had a ton of Red Root Floaters. It would grow like crazy but it would never turn red. At least once a week I'd have to trim all the plants back and I'd donate them to a small LFS. I've since removed the RRF's as they were blocking light to my other plants.
Looks like you may need a stronger light for RRF to turn red. Once they are turning red, the other plants below will also have enough remaining light to continue growing. I have one tank completely covered with various floating plants (including RRF) and submersed plants are fine. Especially the plants that are not too light hungry will do well, such as Anubias, Buce, Java Fern, Crypts. I’ve had even some Rotalas, Glosso, and Monte Carlo continue growing while shaded by floaters. I’m using Fluval Plant 3.0, which is a nice light, but not as strong as some other high end lights.
@@RafaelSwit I have a Fluvial 3.0 and a Zoo Med light which is almost as good as the Fluvial that's $360 worth of lights. Not gonna spend a dime more just for Red Root Floaters. The ones I had in there grew big and blocked to much light, that I had to remove a ton of them every week. It is now a moot point as I have removed all of them.
Hmmm of the plants not sure I'd make the most, but it would be the only one I would want is the cryptocoryne jacobsenii pink. Really want some and would look great in the foreground/mid ground with my cryptocoryne spiralis tiger.
Bentley always killing it with these talks! Was wondering why my Java fern would die I think it’s too much flow in that tank had the trident one or unless it’s cause the plecos in the tank lol
Of the plants you sold, the only profit I could have seen would be the Java Moss. My hard, high pH water and general laziness are a significant barrier to growing plants on a marketable scale. But I would have hopped on those crypt Jacobsonii with both feet! That's a steal!
Im stuck with defining "successful ", i think with Java Fern I'd be most successful in growing but I doubt I'll be able to actually sell much of it. Now, Jacobsenii pink (points for spelling 😁) is a pretty rare find and I believe that I can sell it by the truck load, making me financially "successful" but, will I be able to grow it??? 🤔
I told you I was going to try Java fern again since being discouraged by it as a beginner. Wow! It’s doing great and grows so much faster than people claim. I just add extra potassium and it looks lush with low light and no co2 injection.
There's a little gathering/show/auction thing going down a couple hours away this weekend. I was on the fence about even going at all but your video has convinced me to look into getting a table! Thanks Bentley, love the content dude
For myself would be java fern trident, as i picked a bargain from an absolute legend of older local aquarist. $50 aud for his mother plant that measures about 60cm x 40cm. Which in my local area 1 rhizome with 4/5 leaves would likely cost $5-$10
So that may be the reason why my Java Fern seemed to do better with the old T5 bulbs on all day as opposed to the LEDs that I have now for a shorter time period.. thanks, always something to learn.
I usually transplant and populate my new tanks with plants / fish / shrimp from other tanks that multiply. Maybe it's time to consider selling my extras...but I think i would be profitable with crypts for sure!
I think in my area java moss would be my best plant to sell. It's hard to find, grows like a weed for me. My java fern varieties are the slowest growers I've ever seen. I might give crypts a try.
I would probably do "best" with the moss and with the red stems you mentioned. Honestly, stems are fun plants and that's what I have success with. Moss is easy because I like to have hard scape and it's very easy to trim and portion out.
I just started my CO2 how fast will I see a difference in plant growth? I am doing a plants for profit tank and am really just wanting to earn my money back for my plants and CO2 tanks. It’s a 40 breeder I use east green and flourish plus root tabs in my tanks.
I need to get more common plants... had pretty damn good prices at fishtoberfest too, but I think a lot of my species scared people away. Also I spent almost no time at the table lol
Vids like these make me wish so bad I lived somewhere where I could actually sell ANYTHING locally. It's so horrible living in a dry area. Almost nobody around me wants plants or even any fish, it's super hard to even sell any Cory catfish lol. I'm sorry, this probably just sounds like me crying about bs but honestly if I lived where you did I'd already be able to have my own farm and would be able to be doing what I love and want to for a living lol. Central Ohio sucks lol.
Not at all. It's one of the unfortunate parts about some of the places in this country where the fish hobby isn't quite as big as it is out where I am. That's where I feel very fortunate. I'm in an area where there's a lot of hobbyists and a lot of people into the things that I'm also into, so it gives me a lot of potential.
@@BentleyPascoe well I'm glad you have that opportunity and that it has helped you when you really needed it to! I just need to keep going and maybe try to find a place that's a little better lol. I just wish I could find something that shows where all the hotspots are lol, that'd make it a lot easier
Actually, you should figure the electricity, fertilizer and tanks into the price. It is a great way to help pay for the hobby, but you need to figure in all the costs to claim it is profit.
Sure, but people never do that with fish so it's a similar equivalency. Also, I would be growing these plants anyway. So realistically the costs in electricity and fertilizer for growing my plants are going to be an inherent cost regardless. But yes, if you wanted to be absolutely pinpoint perfect about it, you're correct.
Congrats on the success! Awesome work. I think I could do the best with the crypt pontederiifolia in my water - seem to have pretty good luck with crypts in my magical hard water + fish poop elixir!
Of the plants you sold hands down I could profit with bolbitis. I can grow this plant with ease, but for some reason can't get Java fern to hardly grow at all.
I think in my area I would do the best with the cryptocorynes. Good timing on this video. My husband and I were just talking about me doing this at the next swap.
Great Video Bentley we did well too and had a great time to boot lol thanks for everything my friend ✌️

I would discuss plecos for profit, but it’s rare that I break even lol…
Maybe there should be more swap type things for aquarium things in the PNW.
Surprised you living in the Northwest with ur soft water that you don’t make good money on rare plecos.
Why do my plants got algies? How do I have clean tanks and clear water, sir.

I've had a lot of luck propagating aponogetons. I think that might be a great plant to start with.

I'm split between crypt pontederifolia and java moss for profitability, but I lean towards the moss since I do really well with my Christmas Moss now.
I usually transplant and populate my new tanks with plants / fish / shrimp from other tanks that multiply. Maybe it's time to consider selling my extras...but I think i would be profitable with crypts for sure!

I would say the java fern would be a great choice!🙂
Crypts would be the easiest! With deep substrate and iron they propagate themselves :)
Manny from Perth Australia the fern if i had a choice but the moss for me would be the the big seller i would say if i did plants for profit
I just started my CO2 how fast will I see a difference in plant growth? I am doing a plants for profit tank and am really just wanting to earn my money back for my plants and CO2 tanks. It’s a 40 breeder I use east green and flourish plus root tabs in my tanks.
Anyone wondering it took 6 days. The growth in my CO2 tank is 4-6 leaves on any given plant and 1-3 in my tanks with only lights and ferts.
I need to get more common plants... had pretty damn good prices at fishtoberfest too, but I think a lot of my species scared people away. Also I spent almost no time at the table lol
I think I'd be the most profitable with java fern. I started out with a tiny piece and it's taken over a quarter of my 75 gallon.
I wish I could get my Java Ferns to grow! I've killed everyone I have bought. Right now I have two plants that have stayed alive for three months.
You're so cool! If you ever get down to Coos Bay, You can see my fishroom. :)
My java fern i bought a few months ago has already gave me about 8 to 10 little plants :)
Fantastic!
java moss! goes like crazy around here
I can grow javavern the best ( of your options) so I would sell those.
dam, you killed it.

hi Bently I'm a member
Java fern is the winner where I live for sure.
👍🏻👍🏻
Do you have any plant's to sell now ? Like amazon swords or reg
java ferns, that you want to thin out ? if so how much price wise ?
I do not
@@BentleyPascoe o.k thank you, maybe next time.
Definitely moss for me.
I’m gonna say Java fern would be my winner.
I would say Java Fern might grow for me but don't look as good as your plants.
Moss because I have so much of it
respect
Java moss most likely
I'd probably do best with Java fern

I'm not indicating I'm "all that" more that this is an easy tactic to make good money from your plants.

I'd be doing Java fern, A) easy to propagate B) easy plant for newcomers to the hobby
I grow a lot of Java fern and bolbitas I have some bolbitas half as wide as 29 gallon tanks
The Java moss you be more profitable for me.
I need it! Bentley did I say I need it loo😂
Java Fern :) :)
