The Crucial: Bought one because I wanted to have the pliers with a pocket clip. After a few days, the liner lock jammed the knife blade open and I took it back to the hardware store and exchanged it. A week later, the same thing happened. I went back to the hardware store and found that I couldn't exchange it as they quit carrying the Crucial. When I asked why, they said that every one they had sold had been returned for the same reason. I contacted Gerber and sent it in. They replaced it with one that had bolts so tight that I needed two pair of vise grips to open and close it. I lubed the joints and worked the opening and closing exactly 100 times to try to loosen it up. Finally, it went into the trash.

Yeah.... Gerber centerdrive is very dyrable... but wire cutters breaks after cutting smallest wire...
I have the Center Drive from Gerber and love it because it is built tough and have realistic tools which I can use at home and away from home.
I’ve had a Gerber similar to the first one they showed that slides the pliers out and back in to close, for about 17 plus years. Grant it Ive never used it as a main tool, but I have used every tool on there. Gotten me out of a few jams. Glad it doesn’t transmit electricity..... 😐 (lesson learned) anyway the pliers seem to get stuck open and can only slide them back in after really jiggling and working it and pushing and shoving. It always goes back, but always a hassle. Any ideas? love the tool, just a nuisance more than anything.

I like the look of the second Gerber multi-tool and may end up buying it to see how it works. I already have the first one made by them and love it so much. The Leatherman tool is looking nice, but I would be afraid that the scissors on it might break before long.

Scissors work great on my Wave and are quite tough ...
I own since 3 years a leatherman charge tti - zero problems with the scissors. I think that it is the same.

that first gerber kinda reminds me of the s.o.g. that I used when I was in the army.
I get where gerber is coming from with the full size bit driver but if I have access to my bit set I probably has access to my drivers too. I'd always rather use the actual tool than a multitool I really just use my wave in the truck to save me keeping half a tool box in there
I had one Gerber in my whole in life and it's the greatest tool in the world use it for everything it only broke once and it's lifetime warranty
Don't understand the SOG bashing, their tools are useful and until now really reliable. Use 3 SOGtools for 2 years now.

Center drive,IS NOT the only multi-tool that has Socket drive attachment...my Leatherman Fuse base the same Phillips head square drive attachment,and I'm very satisfied.I have a swiss army knife as a extra tool .
The Leatherman Fuse also has the same blade length as this center drive.
I understand there is a market for selling,but deceit and not knowing what the competition has and fabrication of false facts,is why sales pitches suck in modern ads.

The MP600: Gerber gave me one as a replacement of a 12 year old multi tool that had an issue with the locking mechanism on the serrated blade. The MP600 is good for one-hand opening. The file is good. The rest is mediocre, at best. The knife blades are among the worst I have ever used.
i just want a multi tool that has rubber grips on the handles as every metal only is sore to use after a small period of time especially pliers

I’ve had Ferber tools and you can feel the quality difference immediately, I’ve grew up using leatherman and I know why I only tried it and good lord never again lol
So Gerber needs to say Leatherman Wave is bad to prove the Centerdrive is good? That is cheap marketing.
Not only that but they needed to use multiple leatherman's to nitpick and show how better their tool is.
My thoughts exactly, makes me dislike Gerber more than I already did.

the gerber centre drive would be amazing if it wasnt built to fail. What do i mean by this? Well the carbide inserts for cutting (25 euro to replace) are so goddamn brittle they can shatter from cutting even copper wire. I went trough 5 replacement inserts in a month before cutting my losses.
Please Gerber quit it with the goddamn carbide inserts. Having 3 sides doesnt mean shit when the whole piece shatters like glass.

All presented multi tools are unsuccessful: Gerber MP600, SOG SwitchPlier, SOG Baton, Gerber Centerdrive, SOG PowerPint, Leatherman Raptor, Gerber MP1. Forget carbiner multi tools, take proper pliers based multi tool.

The Wave is a great tool !!
SOG has the best pliers and crimpers.
Gerber has the best bit driver.
Leatherman has the best saw/file on the surge.
Victorinox has all other tools.
Sog and Gerber are cheep and nasty! I sold multi tools for 10 years and Leatherman is the only way to go!
