If Dave Friedman is repairing John Sykes' Jose Marshall, I guess there is a way of contacting him and having him as a guest. I hear he is a bit reclusive nowadays, but you can always harass him and threaten him by saying things like"if you don't come to our show I won't give you the amp back" etc. etc.🤣🤣🤣 Just an idea 😉

actually lars told that years ago in an interview, that they were going for a ‘garage-y feel’. anyway, personally I think st anger sucks, but mainly because the songwriting is shit, sound wise I actually like it, there’s some kind of ‘garage metal’ going on, it just sounds...raw. I dig it.

Exactly - that was a major surprise to me yet the compliment to John Sykes is well deserved. John Sykes is criminally underrated - his own individual and instantly recognisable style, fantastic guitarist both at rhythm and blistering lead but an astonishingly great rock singer. Please return John - we miss you.

I watched every minute of this and I want more! BR is my favorite rock producer ever. Sonic Temple guitar sounds are epic. Also, Paul Dean's sound on Turn me Loose always impressed me so much. Now I know it was a Marshall Super Lead, single track, amazing! So many great insights in this video.

Thank you very much and thanks for watching my videos! I have to say that I really liked when Bob was talking about Keith Scott. I watched Keith play in Zingo and Bowser Moon so many times back in the day around Vancouver and he was always the best player on the circuit. His sound was amazing even back then and yes he used a Hiwatt amp.

Watching “A Year and a half in the life of Metallica” and seeing Bob in the studio made me pursue sound engineering... almost 30 years later, a customer asked me to build him a tweed Bandmaster, and knowing a little about the Clapton/Dumble Bandmaster, I used that as my inspiration. Now I learn it was originally built for Bob, and I feel like a teenager watching that Metallica VHS again... talk about full circle!! Blown away. Great episode!!

Sykes is my #1 favorite.. Nice to hear Bob give him the nod. Such a tasteful and brilliant player and performer and made it look so effortless. He has it all
One of the best shows yet. I have been a huge fan of Bob since 1991 or so. He really is a super cool guy. Some of my favorite footage of him is from all of the in-studio stuff he did with Metallica. There are some funny and great moments in those vids. Thanks for coming on Bob!

I am here watching again a year later because Bob is awesome.
Even if one is not a fan of Loverboy, their playing and guitar tone are undeniably great if you like thick, meaty, luscious rock guitar tone.

26:30 Bob got confused about Jason's gear, he later during Load/Reload experimented with P bass and had an old one for that (seen in some studio videos around that time). He went with an '81 Spector NS2 for the vast majority of the Black Album and that sound is unmistakeable.
You are absolutely correct about that. I thought the same when he said it. You can't mistake that Spector Growl.

There are basses and then there is Spector and as soon as you hear it without knowing ANYTHING about a band or recording you know immediately THAT is a SPECTOR!

This episode was only bested by the Jake E Lee runaway episode IMHO. :^) Being a Canadian and of a certain age, I had a Hiwatt 100 I ordered from the US in the early 70s and my buddy had a Canadian 50 a few years later. The difference blew me away. Many years later I met and befriended John McIntyre, an amp designer/builder, and he explained the differences to me in great detail. All of which went over my head. But basically they're cascaded channels as you guys noted.
Didn't know Pete was canadian, I heard it right away when he spoke to the fellow canuck, Bob. Cool! :)

Very cool to hear Bob Rock. He's done a lot of great records, and he made some really good sounding 311 songs too. Those songs he did with them plain sound good, some are very heavy, some very Maui. But Bob Rock is a Canadian and Rock icon.

I have two of the Canadian Hiwatt, a DR-103 and a DR-504, made the same week in 1978. The story as I know it is they were imported into Montreal (Erikson Distributors maybe?). I know the name of the guy that was modding them but I don’t want to say the name because my memory is awful and I don’t want to be wrong. They’re the only Hiwatts I’ve ever owned or played so I have no idea what a non Canadian mod Hiwatt sounds like. The 50w breaks up at a reasonable volume but the power of the 100w has actually scared guitarist buddies of mine. I used the 100w for bass for years as it’s impossibly loud for guitar. I finally bought an attenuator for the 100w and using it was the single biggest tone moment in my life, he most dynamic tone I’ve ever experienced, everything was there as the turn of my guitars volume knob, no overdrive pedals needed, it be as if were insulting the amp to put one in front of it, lol. Hiwatts were extremely popular in Vancouver in the late 70’s and 80’s, I got mine for a song waaay back. The guy who filled me in on the import mod is a very famous guitarist whose name I won’t drop. I do think Alex Lifeson must have used them because he went through a Hiwatt phase, and of course the amazing Keith Scott is another famous user. Geeked hard here but as soon as I heard the Hiwatt chat I couldn’t help myself.

Great episode! JPJ was angry at Bob for producing Kingdom Come because they had a similar sound? Let's be honest, Zepp ripped off blues artists like non-other. Straight up plagiarized Elmore James, Leadbelly, Howlin' Wolf, Albert King, Muddy Waters and, especially, Willie Dixon.

I just ordered T4416 Celestion V30’s through my local Mesa dealer for my Marshall 4x12 cab. The only way I could get the correct V30s in Australia.
I love the production on the Kingdom Come album. The flack that album got for sounding like Led Zep seems ridiculous now when you compare it to bands like Greta Van Fleet!
