I regret trading a lot of my Dreamcast games into Gamestop back in the day (GigaWings, GMOTW, Cannonspike, Samarai Showdown etc.) but being a SF fanatic I'm glad I kept both the Streetfighter 3 titles.
up until recent years , street fighter 3 third strike on Dreamcast was usually $60 or less You cnt go wrong with getting it for the ps2 / Xbox that has super street fighter 2 turbo and third strike for less then $20 used even to this day

This is why it says SF II Turbo: Hyper fighting on the SNES title screen. You'd have to do research to find the differences but they are there nonetheless. Both are very similar tho.
@@someonesane I always used Dhalsim's spinning drill moves. The timing was tricky but it worked great. Even when I was having an off day I could just teleport. So cheap but when it costs money, cheesing is acceptable.
You had no chance against it on Alpha 3 it took half your health bar away when he hit you with it and even blocking it you still took a chunk of damage
I always thought it was kinda funny that Dee-Jay had MAXIMUM on his pants, cuz it a word that looks the same from the left or the right so they wouldnt have to make unique sprites.
Oh, Street Fighter II is certainly a good game, but it is VERY easy to underestimate how influential it is when every fighting game since has done it better. Just look at Street Fighter III: Third Strike or Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition from the same series.
It might be more of their lack of understanding of how SFII evolved on the consoles over time since James was more of an MK fan. There are tangible things that SF fans know off cuff that would change their outlook considerably.
For me personally, Street Fighter 2 was more fluid feeling, very playable, and very nice controls. Mortal Kombat was fun in its own right, especially considering what it had to offer versus other fighting games, but the controls were very clunky.
I disagree. Street Fighter always felt very clunky to me. To me it's bad compared to any other fighting game. I never liked it. I share the same sentiment to all Capcom fighters. They can't make a decent fighting game. Mortal Kombat felt so much better.
Of the thousands of games I've played in my life it has definitely been this franchise that has commanded the largest block of my time. I should be better at it after 31 years. 😅
I'm more of a Ken player myself. Seriously, I will always go for Ken in Street Fighter after how good he was in Smash. It helps that I'm a scrub and Ken is very easy to pick up and play. Now, if only I could do a Shoryuken on command.
SF3: 2nd Impact is awesome on this collection because it has a native widescreen option. It looks beautiful, even by today's standards! Also, the best home versions of arcade SF2, Champion Edition, and Hyper Fighting are on SF Collection 2 (PS1, Saturn).
Probably my favorite franchise of all time. I've been playing Street Fighter since the 90s and I'm playing Street Fighter V currently. I've been waiting for this video for a long time. Thanks for this!
The Boston Lager is too damn hoppy for me. Rolling Rock seemed to be skunky at least 1/4 - 1/3 of the time. Yeungling... I tend not to feel well the next morning when I drink, say, 16 of them....

From '91 to '96 the Street Fighter entries (arcade and SNES home versions) were so much a part of my junior high/high school life: after school/weekends, the mall & cinema & bowling alley arcades. All of us "regular fighters" organized meet ups & tourneys (without internet lol) in my suburb. Great fun! I was always a Street Fighter, Tekken & Samurai Showdown (underrated SNK fighting game) player. I loved MK, but sucked at it due to the stupid "Block" button which never made any design sense to me when playing fighting games. So I still suck at MK to this day lol *Ryu & Ken & Guile were and still are my mastered SF characters - puts quarter on arcade cabinet "I got next!"
The bosses cheat in these SF2 games. The flying across the screen done by MBison can be countered by fireballs,sonic booms, E Honda's low punch sumo head butt-perform the attack just about when he will hit you. It is possible to jump backwards and hard kick late.
It was and still is different from all the other mainline games that's why people don't like, I myself think that it has the superior gameplay, artstyle, music and general vie but I really only like half of the roster but I must admit as time passes characters keep growing on me maybe it's because I'm seeing how Capcom won't be able to replicate the game
Roster is a big problem for a lot of popular Capcom fighting games. CvS 2, MvC 2, Third Strike, Alpha 2, and even Pocket Fighter have way too many shotos.

Man, I miss these old games... I remember vividly how I went nuts seeing someone playing Street Fighter II: Rainbow Edition (the one with glitches, like Ryu's Shoryuken fills the screen with multiple Hadouken, and you can change your character midgame by pushing the Start button)...
I spent much of my allowance playing SFII in the arcade back in the day. I was always Blanka and won a lot, but I would get so pissed off when everybody was Ryu or Ken and did the impossible to beat moves haha.
Actually Ken/Ryu vs Blanka is a pretty even balanced fight. My friend and I were very good at SF2 and played Ken (me) vs Blanka for 4 hours straight one day.
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection on Nintendo Switch is great compilation for the system and I always play as Chun-Li in every Street Fighter games.
SSF2T is also the playable Debut of Akuma, and the 30th Anniversary tells you how to play as him: Hover over each character for about 3-5 seconds, then swap to the next one and repeat Ryu T Hawk Guile Cammy Ryu Once you make it back to ryu, hit the start button and all 3 punches. Akuma is incredibly OP, to the point he is banned in competition. He cannot be stunned, has incredibly high damage, and is super fast

Growing up, every Walmart or Air Force BX I would visit had a Street Fighter 2 cabinet of some kind out front. I found a Street Fighter 1 cabinet side by side with freaking Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cabinet at a bowling alley once.
When considering gameplay, the Street Fighter games were always superior to me. But, the Mortal Kombat games also always have a special place in my gaming heart :)
I remember a little bit alpha 2 and how it took some second before each match to begin on the SNES cuz clearly it was doing something the console wasn't meant to do.
Just to be clear, this actual collection isn't very good. It's strictly emulation of the arcade versions, and they have significant flaws. There is speed and timing issues, and online is spotty at best (sound lags, and connections failing before a match even starts). Casual players may not notice as much, but all the versions in this collection are definitely not 1:1 Arcade accurate.
Do you think the PS3/360 version of Third Strike Online is better than this one? Also, you think the Switch's version is better of worse or about the same as the PS4/XBOne?
@@RealAlphaDrum agreed! MK was a novelty at the time, due to the violence and speed, but Street Fight just played better. MK did come into it's own with II though
Mortal Kombat was all about the shock factor, blood, fatalities, etc...Without those it would be a very bland fighting game, especially since all characters basically have the same moves.

A funny thing I always thought about Street Fighter and Final Fight series is that they both have names that would have fit better for the other one. In other words: Final Fight should have been called Street Fighter and vice versa.
I have a vivid memory of seeing the cabinet for Street Fighter 2 in the local video rental store. They had a couple cabinets in the back, and people were crowded around it in awe. After that, Street Fighter 2 was like wasps on a summer holiday; everywhere!

I've spent little time with the Street Fighter series throughout my life (always been more of a Mortal Kombat guy) but II and its variations are great. And although I've spent only a few hours playing Third Strike (have it for PS2) I've always LOVED how crisp and colorful it looks and how SMOOTHLY it plays. A beauty of a game for sure.
That moment of lost hope and confusion when they accidentally selected Third Strike was hilarious and depressing (especially since one of them chose the best character in the game)

When it comes to most street fighter games I prefer the home console versions over the arcade versions because they usually have more modes, characters and multiplayer options. Super Street fighter 2 The new challengers and Street fighter alpha 3 are the best examples of this.
I remember playing a hacked version of street fighter 2 when I was really young. Maybe it was a fever dream or something, but I was four years old and in Detroit, Michigan. My dad used to play hockey recreationally. They place he played at had the arcade machine and guile was completely overpowered. He could throw sonic booms midair and could basically cover the screen in sonic booms lol.
The third SF2 game was called Street Fighter 2 Turbo in Japan, and got slightly renamed as Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting in the west, though for some reason the game title screen referred to it as "Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting", the full title was only on the cabinet. Then the western release of the SNES port just kept the Japanese name Street Fighter 2 Turbo, so the game ended up with three slightly different western names for some reason.
In Japan, SFII Champion Edition was known as "Street Fighter II Dash" (that's what the strange mark was known as), while Hyper Fighting was called "Street Fighter II Dash Turbo". Also, Super Street Fighter II was made for the upgraded CP System II arcade board, and in Japan, Super Turbo (also on CPS II) was known as "Super Street Fighter II X".
Oh how little does James know about Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike. Best Street Fighter game ever made. There is reason why it still has active and devoted international community around it.

By the time it came out (with no home ports until Dreamcast), 2D games were often considered "out-dated" compared to Tekken 3 or other more modern 3D fighters like Soul Calibur. And many who played SF3 didn't like the mostly new cast of characters.
Street Fighter is the reason why I love videogames. While all of my friends get stuck with Tekken and Mortal Kombat, SF is always be my spirit animal in the world of fighting games. 👊🔥👍💝

Actually Champion Edition was on the same Super Nintendo Cart as Hyper Fighting just in a separate part of the game called Normal Mode.
I had hyperfighting as a kid and never knew this i just always wondered why anyone would play on that
And hyper fighting is on the genesis champion edition as turbo mode so in both cases you got both versions in one

Agreed. MK 1 and 2 didn't age nearly as well as Street Fighter 2, particularly Super SF2 Turbo.
MK relied more heavily on precision of button combos, whilst Street fighter was more on the fluid inputs. It's quite subtle the differences.
Thank your lucky stars you did multiplayer on Super Turbo. The computer is damn near impossible to beat on that one.

The older you get, the more impossible it becomes to be any good at SF. It requires lighting fast inputs to pull off any combos.

It was and still is different from all the other mainline games that's why people don't like, I myself think that it has the superior gameplay, artstyle, music and general vie but I really only like half of the roster but I must admit as time passes characters keep growing on me maybe it's because I'm seeing how Capcom won't be able to replicate the game
Roster is a big problem for a lot of popular Capcom fighting games. CvS 2, MvC 2, Third Strike, Alpha 2, and even Pocket Fighter have way too many shotos.

I spent much of my allowance playing SFII in the arcade back in the day. I was always Blanka and won a lot, but I would get so pissed off when everybody was Ryu or Ken and did the impossible to beat moves haha.
I always found them the easiest to beat as Blanka haha, ah variety is the spice of life! The Low Fierce punch knocked them out of everything.
Actually Ken/Ryu vs Blanka is a pretty even balanced fight. My friend and I were very good at SF2 and played Ken (me) vs Blanka for 4 hours straight one day.
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection on Nintendo Switch is great compilation for the system and I always play as Chun-Li in every Street Fighter games.

Akuma is incredibly OP, to the point he is banned in competition. He cannot be stunned, has incredibly high damage, and is super fast

Growing up, every Walmart or Air Force BX I would visit had a Street Fighter 2 cabinet of some kind out front.
I found a Street Fighter 1 cabinet side by side with freaking Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cabinet at a bowling alley once.
When considering gameplay, the Street Fighter games were always superior to me. But, the Mortal Kombat games also always have a special place in my gaming heart :)
I remember a little bit alpha 2 and how it took some second before each match to begin on the SNES cuz clearly it was doing something the console wasn't meant to do.

Just to be clear, this actual collection isn't very good. It's strictly emulation of the arcade versions, and they have significant flaws. There is speed and timing issues, and online is spotty at best (sound lags, and connections failing before a match even starts). Casual players may not notice as much, but all the versions in this collection are definitely not 1:1 Arcade accurate.

MK II was way better than MK I, but you are correct. SFII as a fighter is better. MK though, was never really about the fighting, the violence. Ha
@@RealAlphaDrum agreed! MK was a novelty at the time, due to the violence and speed, but Street Fight just played better. MK did come into it's own with II though
Mortal Kombat was all about the shock factor, blood, fatalities, etc...Without those it would be a very bland fighting game, especially since all characters basically have the same moves.
@@Cod4Wii especially the look of the games too. MK using digitized actors was cool for the time, but that and just the overall look of the game has aged horribly compares to SF2
It also helps that almost all of the SFII ports play well, and most of the MKI ports don’t.

A funny thing I always thought about Street Fighter and Final Fight series is that they both have names that would have fit better for the other one. In other words: Final Fight should have been called Street Fighter and vice versa.
It cant be overstated how SF2 revolutionized video games. Its up there with Pong & Space Invaders imho

I have a vivid memory of seeing the cabinet for Street Fighter 2 in the local video rental store. They had a couple cabinets in the back, and people were crowded around it in awe. After that, Street Fighter 2 was like wasps on a summer holiday; everywhere!

I've spent little time with the Street Fighter series throughout my life (always been more of a Mortal Kombat guy) but II and its variations are great. And although I've spent only a few hours playing Third Strike (have it for PS2) I've always LOVED how crisp and colorful it looks and how SMOOTHLY it plays. A beauty of a game for sure.

When it comes to most street fighter games I prefer the home console versions over the arcade versions because they usually have more modes, characters and multiplayer options. Super Street fighter 2 The new challengers and Street fighter alpha 3 are the best examples of this.

I remember playing a hacked version of street fighter 2 when I was really young. Maybe it was a fever dream or something, but I was four years old and in Detroit, Michigan. My dad used to play hockey recreationally. They place he played at had the arcade machine and guile was completely overpowered. He could throw sonic booms midair and could basically cover the screen in sonic booms lol.

The third SF2 game was called Street Fighter 2 Turbo in Japan, and got slightly renamed as Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting in the west, though for some reason the game title screen referred to it as "Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting", the full title was only on the cabinet. Then the western release of the SNES port just kept the Japanese name Street Fighter 2 Turbo, so the game ended up with three slightly different western names for some reason.

In Japan, SFII Champion Edition was known as "Street Fighter II Dash" (that's what the strange mark was known as), while Hyper Fighting was called "Street Fighter II Dash Turbo". Also, Super Street Fighter II was made for the upgraded CP System II arcade board, and in Japan, Super Turbo (also on CPS II) was known as "Super Street Fighter II X".
Oh how little does James know about Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike. Best Street Fighter game ever made. There is reason why it still has active and devoted international community around it.

By the time it came out (with no home ports until Dreamcast), 2D games were often considered "out-dated" compared to Tekken 3 or other more modern 3D fighters like Soul Calibur. And many who played SF3 didn't like the mostly new cast of characters.
Street Fighter is the reason why I love videogames. While all of my friends get stuck with Tekken and Mortal Kombat, SF is always be my spirit animal in the world of fighting games.

I love Street Fighter 2 I never played the arcade version until around my teen years because I mostly play the SNES version of Street Fight 2 original and Turbo version. And the music is freaking amazing and best port version ever.
