I was lucky enough to chat with Marko after a show during his solo tour last year, and I can confirm he's a real sweet heart !! Very humble, reachable and down to earth person. We waited for him in the street outside the venue, and he stayed with us about half an hour, chatting, taking pictures, signing stuff... Unforgettable moment !!

These are the stories that make me love bands more, I met Herman Li from Dragonforce at a dream theather gig at the bar and chatted with him for 15-20 minutes and he was totally chill and so interested in my life and my musical journey, he even bought me A beer despite me wanting to buy him 1

When I met him after a Tarot gig once I went to shyly shake his hand but he, glowing with this awesome drunken good-natured Zen, was like 'Pfffft, let's hug!'. So we hugged. 😂
You were kind of right about sitting around a camp fire, but in the official video the fire is 'sitting' around Nightwish.

Marko composed the music and Tuomas wrote lyrics. When he spoke Finnish he was asking the audience if they'd sing the chorus with him. The MV for this is cool too. Troy is playing the Irish Low Whistle.
There are many ways of translating it, no surprise there, a Finnish speaker told me it's something like:
If I play the chorus, you will sing along?
You will?
OK, then we'll do it!"

Troy is playing his low whistle: a traditional Irish instrument.
Jukka did really well during the virtual show. saw an interview he gave about joining the band. really cool, humble guy. loves NW, but, like he said, you can't replace Marko.

It's also quite different as the song is written by Marko. It stands out in the stormy sea of Tuomas compositions.
Tuomas helped him with the lyrics ... always has Marko's back, just as Marko has his. Giants of music working together - heart be still.

Thank You Tom for your Nightwish reactions. One can easily notice that you deeply understand good music whether it`s heavy metal or ballads or what ever. Nightwish guys are so multiskilled and Tuomas is a musical genius as well as Marko and Troy also. I was little surprised that you told that in the States you don`t have many metalbands, but in Finland we have a very strong metal tradition and Nightwish is one of them and there are many more of them like Wintersun, Tarot etc. One thing is surprising me in this Finnish metal genre, these bands come very often from very small towns or even villages just like Nightwish is from a very small community and still you can find such talent as the Nightwish guys are.
Since you mentioned a bonfire , you should definitely check out the official musicvideo for this song🙂 It's from the Anette era and it's really awesome👌

We all love Marko and we wish that he comes back next year but his (mental) health is obviously more important.
This is what Nightwish was originally going to be about. Laid back campfire songs... Then they got in touch with Tarja (an old friend from school) to come sing and her opera chops birthed Symphonic Metal genre. Needless to say, the new found raw power of Tarja's vocals gave Tuomas a new direction for the whole band... And thus we have Symphonic Metal.
So... It would be appropriate to say "Tarja the Mother of Symphonic Metal". Has a nice ring, don't you think?
@@bockusd in a way this is correct... Tuomas was and is the Mozart behind everything, but without Tarja's vocals, the band wouldn't have headed this way. Tarja inspired the birth of Symphonic Metal. They did it together, but she was a key person here.
To be fair, I don't think that NW should get all the credit for founding the genre. Tuomas has mentioned Therion as an influence/inspiration, but I reckon that many early bands influenced each other.
Whoever sent you this link robbed you. The really fun part at the beginning is cut out. He describes his band members as weasels because they left him here alone on stage and he now has to somehow provide entertainment. 😁🤘

These Nightwish ballads are so well executed that people falls into trance. Floor took her turn down the catwalk in Sleeping Sun - and Emppu also walking down there. Phenomenal concert

And don’t forget Camel! And Genesis, Heart and Moody Blues. It’s a beautiful sound for any Rock/Prog band so why not Metal, especially Symphonic Metal!

The instrument is a Warwick Infinty base combined with a Panthera guitar specially built for Marko lovingly nicknamed "The Beast".
And a couple of other things: Marko is a featured artist for Warwick basses. He has always played them: a good reason and influence for that is John Entwistle from The Who. The same model of bass John played is the same model Marko used at Wacken. They also resurrected what was a defunct guitar/luthier company from Germany called Framus. This is a custom piece made for Marko that is a Framus guitar on the bottom neck and a Warwick bass on the top neck. He uses this also when they play Weak Fantasy, as well as some of his solo material.
Second, react to this video again with your wife. She would absolutely love this!! In fact, I'd say to have both of you react to this performance again, then react to the official video. You'd love the storytelling in that. But definitely do Tampere again, followed by the official video.

Marko's mentioned Jethro Tull as being one of his favourite bands and I'd say that there are some definite Ian Anderson elements in this song (and in Marko's "Stones", for that matter). Anyway, thanks for the reaction, Tom!

Everytime I see this performance I have the same reaction as you have. It brings tears to my eyes and at the same time a big smile on my face! So don’t feel ashamed for I think many of us feel the same. And I allways look at Marko’s face and see how he loves what he is doing there on stage. It makes me so very sad that he’s not able to perform like this at this point in his life. I really LOVE how the rest of Nightwish softly come blending in at the end of the song. Double neck guitars are very common. I grew up in the seventies and eighties and a lot of rock/classic rock/heavy metal bands used them. At the top of my head: Rush, Fleetwood Mac, Yes, Led Zeppelin, The Band, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, to name a few. I remember Slash (Guns 'n' Roses) playing his double neck (I think) Gibson.
You missed his bantz with the audience before he starts, which is great. Everything he does is full of his tremendous character and humour (in addition to his amazing talent).
This is the 3rd American reactor that has missed the beginning interaction with the crowd. Not sure if it's a cultural thing that they're too impatient to get to the song. 😉

Tom Tuffnuts used to, especially at the beginning of his acquaintance with Nightwish, regularly stop NW videos a few seconds before the end. That was also annoying, but luckily he changed that habit at some point. The most annoying thing is when the reactors bypass parts in the middle of the videos. I've seen those too.

You FINALLY got to this one Tom! Marko has such a great voice. The song is a bit short on lyrics, could have done with a bit more, as in less repetition.

This is just awesome....but honestly...what should go wrong if you have the best Backup Singer ever....:-)...This just shows that not only Floor is great...the complete Band shows a huge amount of talent.....You should have shown that your wife....

Hi Tom At the beginning Marco.was talking to the crowd. You should checkout his and Floor's episode on Floor Finds on her Channel. Sarah would absolutely love it. His voice was different before his operation.
You should do Bye Bye Beautiful an Anette song off the same album as this song along with The poet and the Pendulum n Amaranth also off Dark Passion Play but make it the official video it's diffidently worth seeing (Marko shares the singing in this one)

You made the comment about Marko telling the rest of the group to take 10 ... you need to watch the minute or so before this song to see what he actually says ... it really shows you how well the group interact ;) ... and your campfire comment - you should watch the official "music video" for this song. It doesn't have Floor (it was filmed while Annette was still the lead singer), but it really does a great job of portraying the story the song is telling.
If you like Marco solo. Should check out Marko singing "voice of my father". It's part of his solo side project.

It's funny you mention campfire, because in the music video that's how the band is arranged, is around a bonfire.

When you react to The Greatest Show on Earth, believe me you can't avoid reacting to that song, please please react to The Greatest Show On Earth from this venue before you rewat to the same song from Wembly. Both are just unbelievable. There done just a touch differently. This venue has Troy with the Low Whistle and the Ullian Pipes where as in Wembly those instruments are done with an electric guitar. Tom, don't know if you've seen Marko and Floor sing Ava Maria - th-cam.com/video/ut6ufu2CPNg/w-d-xo.html. If you can watch the end and not tear up, you simply don't have a heart. Watch how much they love each other - Marko has a "big brother" look on his face, then puts his head on her shoulder. It was so blurry, but that's because I was watching through tear-filled eyes.
