Honestly it was a win in my book, the man didn’t even know about slaves or Jonny, flew in and sang these songs...much respect Matt cause there was no way Slaves would’ve survived a blow from that situation if he didn’t come

The vocalist is Matt McAndrew. He was the runner up on The Voice back in 2014. He STILL remains my favorite artist to EVER be on The Voice.

I love how Matt improvised his inability to sing Jonny's higher notes by differentiating his inflection points! (e.g. 2:38 15:31) he's trying his best and I believe they're just gonna get better
Matt has improved so much. Cant wait to hear new jams with him. Still kinda weirds me out, him singing Jonnys songs lol Matt killed this performance tho. He understands how to sing the songs properly now. So happy for the band. 🥀

Wow, absolutely love this guy's vocals. Different than Jonny, but not in a bad way. IMO a better replacement than when Tilian or Bradley joined his other bands.

Matt is a great addition to the band. Gonna respectfully disagree with some points. Emarosa is a different sound now with Bradley so hard to compare. Both emarosa eras great in their own right. I honestly think the Tillian era is DGD best material.
@@joshuaroutzahn9693 Yeah, they do have a different sound, but the impetus for change was Bradley, at least from my understanding. Without him we're not quite sure what they would sound like. Therefore, because he's the lead singer he brought about a move with the music that I don't think will be better than what Matt will bring with Slaves. A lot of people love Tillian, but i'm really not a fan of his style. I completely understand that may be a dissenting opinion, but one I hold to. Thanks for the comment.
Tilians a pretty damn good replacement imo. Really do miss tides of man though.

No, his voice doesn't sound exactly like Jonny's, but no one's will. Matt is fucking bringing it & he keeps the needle out of his arm, so there's that. He deserves his place in this band & I hope they continue growing and get the recognition they deserve.
I love Jonny but I think Matt fits better- at least with their new stuff. He doesn’t hit Jonny’s highs but he makes it his own and I’ll give him credit. I’ve been following him since he was on the Voice so it’s good to see him make this far.
He's doing exceptionally well considering all the circumstances. Filling in for one of the best vocalists in the game is immeasurably difficult. Much props. Also the difficulty in the vocals will only make him better over time. Trying to hit those notes over and over again will bring improvements to his own range which he may not have ever attempted if not for this opportunity.
That's not how vocals work at all, trying to hit notes outside of your full natural range will just damage your voice, nothing else.
Jonny Craig is a tool. He needs to retire from the music scene.

You can train yourself to sing in way that expands your range. I believe that Matt will be able hit these notes if he keeps a regular training regiment.

Yeah he doesn’t hit Craig’s highs and no he doesn’t move around hardly at all but he’s definitely making these songs his own and didn’t copy the recording note for note he also doesn’t come from the scene and know how shows go as far as energy and talking to the crowd in between songs. Not here to make excuses for the guy but he filled Johnny’s shoes better than just about anybody..
Just wanna day that this stage wasn’t built for him to move much. It’s very small.
@@testingmyaudioaddiction3452 This ^, also I'm not entirely sure but my understanding is he pretty much last minute learned these songs and joined the band on the tour, so probably would take time for him to actually settle into the right kind of groove with the rest of the band.

Yeah i agree. I also think matts style is more cohesive. I like jonnys stuff but it often feels like jonny + others. Matt seems to bring them all together

Still not Johny Craig, he's damn good, but I'm just picturing Johny sing the new songs.
The singers biggest problem is stage presence. He moves like some random guy at a bar doing karaoke, he looks super uncomfortable and unsure of what he should be doing.
At times I think the bassist looks more unsure of himself tho even tho he's part of original lineup

He said that being in stage is harder than The Voice stage. He never heard about Slaves or either Jonny Craig. But he says the feeling is amazing and every show they do he feel more confidence.
For someone who all of the sudden had 45 minutes to decide whether he will go and perform on the other continent with this band whose songs he didn't even know at the time, he is doing somewhat a good job.

Matt is okay. He's far better technically than Jonny and thus much more consistent but thats it. He doesnt have anywhere near the understanding of dynamics or range that Jonny had and unfortunately 99% of Slaves past songs are in a very high range so Matt is screwed from the get go. He should get vocal lessons to learn how to mix really high or just never do any of the past songs , he has a naturally high voice but he sings with far too much chest voice. The way hes doing it now sounds terrible and is gonna ruin his voice if he keeps doing it.

I’ve been saying this exact thing ever since Matt joined. It’s just awkward and inappropriate for someone other than jonny to sing these songs. A name change is in order.
Lil Drake the songs are the property of the band, if they like the name they can keep it, they want to keep playing music and the songs that they helped write and they can’t do that with Jonny in rehab
They had 45 minutes to find a new vocalist cause Jonny ditched them last minute.. he is and always will be a giant douche and can’t seem to stay in any band due to his poor habits and shitty attitude.. this dude (Matt) saved their tour and is doing a damn good job especially seeing this style isn’t something he’s done in the past and he incredibly learned all the songs within a couple days.. I’m sure once they put out their new album they can forget most of the older songs

Renaming the band does a disservice to everything Johnny helped build and everything the rest of those guys worked for. This is Slaves.
NAH, See a band is not made by one person no matter how good they are. Johnny was an ass but he had a unique voice, but even with that talent he abused it a little by trying to show off how high he can go. Without the rest of band Johnny wouldn't even be a name we knew. Matt is doing great, better than great for how he's trying and only being in the band for a short amount of time.
