    I'm so jealous of Cody for having those mountains and exposed bedrock where he's at. Where I live in Midwest Ohio, and all I have are hills. The mountains that were here are all smoothed down by glaciers. What's even more annoying is that there's both exposed rock on the side of a highway near where I live, and a limestone quarry only about 2 miles away. I've been digging a roughly 8 foot hole near my house in a desperate attempt to find bedrock, but I bet I have a dozen or more feet to go. At least I learned quite a bit about the local geology and history from it's layers, and how water water flows underground through a gravelly sand layer. Looks like I got off topic, still, great video. I've never been disappointed by Cody's uploads.

    • @elirevzen418

      Like you I was trying to get the bedrock up for a construction project on my farm in SE England. I found it, just four feet under the surface - but I have a different problem. I could do with being 20 years younger shifting & knapping blocks all day, its an absolute killer!

    • @charleslambert3368

      @@riffhurricane Some people in my hometown got their terraced houses extended and the builders found they had no foundations. They'd been built directly on top of the chalk, which was only a few feet down. Which explains why they got so damp.

    • @riffhurricane
      @riffhurricane 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@charleslambert3368 Doesn't sound good at all! I grew up in a Victorian house which (while extending it) we found had hardly any foundation, but even that had a reasonable damp proof course. The stone I'm quarrying atm is a lovely yellow (disclaimer: I'm colourblind) sandstone which is going towards the chimney stack for the new farmhouse I'm building.

    • @gramursowanfaborden5820
      @gramursowanfaborden5820 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      can't grow food on bedrock. the closer it is to the surface, the more "loose" rock makes up the soil. if you have bedrock close, there will be a lot of stones you can see poking out of the ground. use lime for pointing and plaster, rather than Portland and gypsum, it'll help dissipate the damp.

    This series is so much more interesting than other survival "bushcraft" series around YT. It's taking what it's taking. Only so much Cody can do in the suit and RoboCody, while he doesn't get tired, does need his batteries recharged continually. Battery density has come a long way, but it's still a lot of energy to expend and being reliant on solar, means it's still going to take time to get through all the tasks.

    Construction suggestion from a part time carpenter, cutting supports to match the curve of the tank and then planking across then along the length of the tank like an inside out boat hull would likely alleviate the sagging and therefore puddling in the base of the greenhouse. Provided decent quality "lumber" 1" boards would likely do a good job.

    Slow progress is still progress! You'll get there eventually, wherever "there" is. But that's the less important part, it's the journey that really matters. And while yours might've had its ups and downs, it's definitely been an interesting ride so far. So I wouldn't be too worried about getting side-tracked, having to change course, or even the odd minor (or not so minor) setback, as long as you're still moving mostly in the right direction, you'll get where you're going eventually.

    Welcome back Cody! Robert Murray-Smith has shared the principle design of cheap off-grid storage of renewable energy for concentrated grow light boxes. Gravity separated "Oasis flower foam", Zinc and Bromine secondary batteries in cheap plastic containers to provide flexible power and capacity for the least capital outlay will provide your base with sustainable independence before your arrival as a permanent settlement. You will need much greater levels of renewable energy to recycle your water as well as capture from the occasional accessible events that appear to be decreasing in frequency because of climate change and altered regional and seasonal rainfall. Your observation from occasional visits to your base has identified species die-back. Apart from the issue of key indicator species and what should be done to support other bases established in the region - such as agreed low prices for pond liners and academic/industrial/senate technical support to build adequate water storage ponds and reduced evaporation strategies as a proactive environmental safeguarding program and a demonstration of what needs to be done to prevent the destruction of inclined habitats after plant life is destabilized by lack of water followed by topsoil removal by stormwater run-off. By this time you have an inclined and highly unstable desert. This makes life in the valley or gulch areas extremely difficult which motivates this attempt at early and constructive discussion. "Water is life". A NASA interplanetary missions principle
