First Effective Treatment for Long Covid | Stunning Data from Huge New Study

  • The long tail of Covid-19 has left hundreds of thousands suffering numerous and debilitating symptoms.
In this film I break down the results from my most recent study of 812 long haulers, on the efficacy of diet, supplements and medication in treating the condition and their effects on each of the symptoms.
Is there now a statistically proven regimen of treatment for the condition? Yes, I believe there is.
Huge thanks to Dr Tina Peers and Dr Ade Wentzel without whom none of this would have been possible.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Long Covid Handbook (Oct 2022), by Gez Medinger and Professor Danny Altmann and published by Penguin Books is now available in paperback, ebook and audiobook. A singular resource that brings together everything patients, clinicians and academics have learnt about the condition since early 2020, as well as lessons from sufferers and researchers of ME/CFS and other chronic conditions. It offers world leading expert advice on understanding, managing and treating Long Covid. The Long Covid Handbook is available from the following links:

IMPORTANT: It is ESSENTIAL to talk to your doctor before taking any supplements that you have not taken before, or begin taking them at a larger dose. This regimen is NOT appropriate for children so they should speak to their doctor before taking any of these.
Nicotinic acid / Niacin also has several strong counter-indications, they can be seen here:

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niacin
I have to be clear and say that I am not a doctor, nor am I personally advocating you take Niacin or any other supplement or medication mentioned in this film. This is a decision you must make yourself with the consultation of your GP if you have any concerns at all.
So, all that said - here is what I am currently taking.
Niacin: I started at a low dose (10-20mg)/ be careful of flushing
    Selenium: 100mcg / day
    Zinc: 15-30mg / day
    Quercetin: 500mg 3x / day
    Vitamin C: 500-1000mg 3x / day
    Vitamin D: 3-5000iu / day

@@shobadb7578I did the stack of supplements thoroughly with Niacin and antihistamines. I tried the antihistamine diet but I was less good at that. Also, just letting my body rest and understanding it was part of the process was important for me because I used to fight it and be exhausted all the time and frustrated with myself. After a while resting usually I would swim in the sea all year so I stopped doing that and started walking with a free step counter on my phone. I started in the hundreds of steps and would get muscle aches but after some weeks, maybe months I could see a trend forward and now I can do ten thousand. Really thought it was just a way to be less defeated and outside for a little while plus it helped me with pacing because it isn’t how I operate usually and that was hard. I also did a little meditation app for ten minutes a day and it helped with my mood and breathing. Three years ago I felt like I would never get better honestly with pericarditis, a chest rattle, brain fog and lupus and a stinking headache but from watching the videos on this channel gave me a place to start, which helped me stay calm, give myself permission to slow down, trust the process, take notes and after a few slow months you realise you have moved forward, then you just have to keep going. That’s the very best way I can explain it and honestly I am hoping it works out for you! Best… Joanna X

@@user-sq9td8nu9iThat’s really the problem though because there is no agreed protocol yet and it’s hard to carry on with no end in sight and it’s comforting to find out what might have worked for other people because I felt like giving up and spending the rest of my life in bed and I needed a place to start. Also you can’t underestimate the incredibly high quality of guests, scientists and clinicians, if you need advice from somewhere, that wouldn’t be a bad place to start. Unusually with health advice on line, nobody is trying to sell you anything, which is honourable. You are right in that no definitive trials exist and it may have been a placebo but I’m still glad I did it.

Today I cried. After watching the last video, I have started taking Niacin and slowly increasing it. I was already taking some of the other supplements suggested. I also have cut out green tea as I was drinking a lot of it (trying to counter inflammation) and started taking a normal dose of antihistamine. Now 9 months into this journey, at last something has changed. I feel different. Today I walked far, far further than I have done since March (I could only manage a few hundred yards before) and the leg pains and muscle aches haven’t come on. This is truly amazing. After months of being dismissed by my GP and now on a waiting list for a LongCovid clinic, I am so grateful for the research you’ve done and shared. You really are onto something here and I can’t thank you enough!

That’s so awesome!! Quick note on the tea front - if you crave a hot beverage try peppermint tea (check ingredients for no green or black teas.) Also fresh ginger root chop up about a cm roughly then place in boiling water reduce and simmer for 5 mins. Spicy hot drink and ginger helps to combat histamine. I add a bit of vanilla essence to round it out a bit :-)

I have a relative who had horrendous histamine intolerance for several years and he noted that many of my symptoms with long covid were very much like that and it seems from all we’ve learned here that the histamine connection is very significant. I have started to add the probiotic he takes which has basically reversed the condition (although he still takes care around certain foods and alcohol as he has learned his personal limits.) It’s all so interesting.I was already investigating MCAS / low histamine diets in relation to hypermobility as it plays a big role in that condition too. And this very potentially predisposed me to end up with long covid also. Connections everywhere...

I've been advocating the MCAS/low histamine theory since early summer when I noticed a GP mentioned it in a Long Haul support group. But just a low histamine/anti-inflammatory diet plus supplements and antihistamine only curbed symptoms. I started the flushing version of niacin (along with my long hauler teen soon doing the same) two weeks ago - I think I am seeing improvements in both of us but esp in fatigue. So this plan basically mirrors what I have been doing since the late 90s to manage by CFS following Epstein Barr in the early 90s. Diet is crucial, and I found also that the diet should be low sugar and carb. The low Fodmap diet normally used for IBS is a decent ready made diet but it is hard to stick to. Also supplements made a huge difference and over the years, through trial one error, I came broadly to this group of supplements. I should mention my early symptoms mirrored those of Long Covid.

This is totally, totally legit. Thank you Gez!
I'm 9 months from acute illness. I felt better about 2-3 months after getting sick and started working out again (cycling/running). After working out for a few weeks I just kept feeling worse and worse. This trend continued until pretty much any level of activity left me utterly fatigued with awful post exertional malaise. It was difficult to get out of bed some mornings.
I started a low(er) histamine diet about 3-4 weeks ago (not exceedingly strict but with a focus on avoiding the worst foods and eating minimal amounts of medium histamine foods). I maybe felt a little better but it wasn't a massive improvement. I think it helped most with my intermittent nausea. I added in the supplement regime about 2.5 weeks ago. I was a little skeptical after trying so many things for so many months but WOW. I am SHOCKED at how much difference it's made. I've had a steady marked improvement over the last couple weeks. There's been a massive improvement in the fatigue issue. Shortness of breath and headaches have improved or disappeared entirely. I've tried light cycling a couple times with very promising results.
I would add limiting or avoiding sugar seems to have an additional impact as well as intermittent fasting. I think there is a blood sugar component to this whole thing for me even though I'm in decent shape and have had no issues in the past. One odd thing I've noticed... I seem to be craving salt since starting this regimen. Anyone else notice that?

Your work is so important! It's helped me tremendously, thank you so much! I'm on a lot of different supplements, some of which I worked out myself, some of which (the niacin in particular) was guided by you. Last night there were several moments where I forgot I was in recovery and felt normal again. I still have some issues like fatigue and shortness of breath upon exertion, but I am much improved.
Whilst I can't say that I was a long hauler per se, it's been nearly 8 weeks since I had covid and my symptoms after recovery were getting much worse. I truly believe that if I hadn't started searching for answers, I would still be ill. It wasn't until I changed my diet and started supplements that I began to see improvements. Maybe it was just a coincidence? Maybe. However, if I have an inflammatory meal, like a takeaway for example, my nerve pain and chest pains return along with the worsening of other symptoms. I've tried eating highly unhealthy food 5 times (all for experimental reasons of course lol!) and each time it's the same result. I don't think this can be chalked up to a coincidence.

I followed Dr Brooke Goldners protocol. It's simple and her info is all available for free, she isn't selling anything. Her protocol works for all sorts of conditions because it targets inflammation and encourages cells to repair themselves. Look her up, listen to her story and all the testimonies on her site and around the internet. I also have an auto immune condition which is currently in remission for the first time ever! I believe her protocol is also responsible for this.
I didn't completely cut out processed foods because I was too ill to stand and cook in the beginning, but I did the smoothies every day without fail. If you don't have a high speed blender then chia seeds are more bioavailable. Flax seeds need to be ground to be absorbed, but don't buy pre ground as their properties diminish fast. If you look her up, this will make sense to you. I truly believe this woman saved me! Please comment back if you have any questions you can't find the answer for and I'll answer if I know! (1) By 'niacin' do you mean specifically nicotinic acid? I have been taking Vitamin B supplements, but the labelling and descriptions are very unclear.
    (2) Please note that the P-value is very different from the probability that the difference is due to chance! It's the probability, assuming there is in reality no difference, of observing such an apparent difference by chance. This might seem a subtle distinction to non-statisticians, but it makes a huge difference to interpretation. However, self-selection etc. is perhaps more of a problem here.

Thank you so, so much. After your last video, I went out and bought all the Vitamins, including Niacin. I started slowly and on day three started glowing like a glow-worm in the dark. I was also very itchy. I have started taking an anti-histamine with the Niacin and this seems to help.

Hi Wendy. Try backing off the niacin dose a bit if you can!

@@billfox1439 I use Loratidine during the day and Allergex at night. The Allergex helps with sleep. I have had a relapse recently but I think it was due to witnessing a very traumatic event. .

The clinic in Mulheim knows a fair bit, as do the Berlin Cures team!
