I would not use that model for scent hounds. I think it might be okay for upland bird dogs that might not range that far. That is Sport Dog's basic model without many bells or whistles. Did you try testing it by putting just the collar out in a large area and checking the distance? Those tracking units go way less then the manufacture's specs. Terrain variations limit the range big time.
I did inform Sportdog and they sent a multitude of additional parts trying to get better range with no success. I have nothing against their customer service as they were very helpful it is just the product wasn’t good.
You were looking at the remote wrong. It’s only going to show the dog and where your at based off of the remotes location to North. I just got mine and it works good. Yeah I kinda gotta think about the dog location in reference to north but it does it’s job
