This is wonderful to listen to. As a former military officer, now a process engineer I practice a leadership called "development leadership" that I learned at the academy. I lead people and teams to help them develop into leaders or efficient team members. It's so rewardingly ❤ . I develope my leadership by listening to other great leaders like you 😀

Excellent video Paul. Toward the end you make the comment that leaders somehow are able to convince others that they truly are in it to simply help someone else. That’s exactly what you did for me and I appreciate that to no end. Thank you.

    Hi Paul,
    Awesome Learnings here.
BTW, I share your Lean 3S video links with students and trainees because you answer the "HOW-TO" aspect so simply and clearly.
My takeaway's from Your videos, embody LEAN principles and thinking so so well with the 3 pillars I use:
    1. "The job of leaders is to create more leaders, not followers"-Tom Peters
    2. "Waste is everywhere, but you can't see it"-Paul Akers
    3. "Learn to take responsibility and lead yourself and then only other people and things"-This video's message.

Thank you for sharing Paul! Your story really resonated with me. Your story showed me again how I was being teached by many people along my way, although driven by my own will, it brought me to were I am today. It's really good to see this clear overview now, so I can be more effective teaching the new leaders.

Hi Paul, loved the video and I have a question, what if I don't have someone to mentor me? How do I become a better leader?

    • @paul-akers
      @paul-akers  ปีที่แล้ว +4

It’s impossible not to find someone to mentor you. The key is to ask people in general love to share their success with people who are eager to learn.

    • @davehanson2701

Paul's right: anybody worth learning from will CHERISH the opportunity to teach you.
Now, if you find yourself as the biggest fish in the pond, then partner...you need to find yourself a new pond!
Also, look into books and podcasts. Manager Tools podcast is fantastic. There are more books on the leadership then you will ever be able to read. I can't recommend audiobooks enough, they are such a great resource.
Finally, the Lean community is full of brilliant people who love to grow others. The Lean Play app is a great start if you haven't checked it out yet.
      Hope that helps!

You don’t need an in person mentor. Paul Akers is one of 4 mentors to me, probably the most defining. While Paul and I are great friends and we have met in person, just follow his teachings. And if you are serious, Paul is always willing to help.

In addition to what Paul and Dave said, I try to get mentoring through videos and books, and then try applying the concepts to everyday life.

I agree with you that it’s not that easy to find a mentor to teach you leadership skills. There are leadership coaches but they charge anywhere between $250-$500/hr.
