i met Jason varitek after a red sox game when i was young, he took the time to sign my ball and chat with me shortly, one of the nicest interactions i had with some one who was very busy.
Jeeze talk about a good dude. I got a story: I’m from Mount Desert Island, Maine, rural Maine. And in 6th grade we took a class trip to Boston and Fenway. It was 05’. I remember sitting behind pesky poll and watching Varitek walk from the bullpen to the dugout and I was astounded at how much the TV lied! This guy was the strongest dude I had ever seen in person in my whole life! He was huge!!! Made quite the impression. Crazy how the TV doesn’t show that. Joe West must be REALLLLLLYYYY huge.
This video says that Lake Brantley High School is in Longwood, FL. It is not. It is in Altamonte Springs, FL. I went there, played baseball with Tek's younger brothers. That 1990 team was full of talent. The video also fails to mention that they were voted #1 high school team in the nation by USA Today.
I can always tell who the real Red Sox fans are by the way they talk about Varitek. He was the most important player during the Red Sox success in the 2000s.
