No matter who you go for, This QLD effort was the most guttsiest, amazing victory in the history of our great game. A true champion rugby league team and every player in that game went into that special place inside themselves to play above and beyond... Wow!!!!

Great players in both teams. State of Origin is the best spectacle of rugby league on offer in the world. Awesome brave effort Queensland and King Wally. Awesome smash tackle Trevor alias " the axe. " You're only a little fella but have a big heart and a ton of guts indicative of the Australian Spirit. Respect to all the state of origin players, past, present and future. All men of great faith, talent, humility and team spirit. From a Kiwi down under. Kia ora ra / thank you.

I'll never forget this game I'll take it to my grave game 2 1989 the amount of good players we lost in that first half and withstood the NSW fight but we won and the Wally Lewis try is the one that stands out all time it's simply QLD best and most famous Victory of all time. PS great tries to Kerrod Walters and Michael Hancock.

Same here mate. I'll never forget that game and that try is burned in my memory from the time of the great Gilly tackle to Hagan passing the ball to Wally Lewis to that angle he ran and scoring the try. As a former player of 8 years, I was 18 when this game was played and I remember it looking like it was happening in slow motion. Only the greatest players are capable of having that type of a brilliant sense of timing. I've seen a few but Wally Lewis was by far the greatest all round and most gifted player I've even seen by a long shot.

I also remember Wally copping it for being too old to play, his vindication, that try through the guts of the defence and his victory salute, one of triumph. I went to keebra Park high and Wally often came to give motivational speeches to our players. We were reeeeeeal good in the late eighties.

That NSW team weren't mugs either. Brandy Alexander, John Cartwright, Brad Clyde, Garry Jack, Gavin Miller, ET. Also a young Laurie Daley. Chicka Ferguson was also one of my favourites when I was a kid. Wouldn't have made a difference here but I still reckon Ricky Walford deserved a run.
