- On January 20, 1988, Tim Richmond appeared on ESPN's Speedweek with Bob Jenkins to do an interview about his plans for 1988. He talks about his future with NASCAR, wanting to race in NHRA, and enjoying simpler things in life.

Bob Jenkins is forever to me the true voice of NASCAR.

I was just reading the other day how he took his Monte Carlo and blew the doors off the Lowenbrau Porsche 929 or whatever it's called, on a 7.5 mile oval... and Tim blew the Porsche's doors off, Tim's Monte Carlo ran 240 mph !!!! Now that's really saying something !!
It was a Porsche 962.
I knew Tim personally. He was a superior driver, a fun friend, a true lover of life. He had both male and female friends and we all had tons of good times together. I never saw Tim do any drugs. We didn't know much of anything about AIDS back then. But I can tell you, for sure, that he was not gay. Still miss him. Let him rest, please.
Prett cool you knew Tim personally. How do you feel about the groups of women that came out and said Tim knowingly infected them as well? I recently stumbled upon some articles where several women came out after being infected and said they had been with Tim shortly before his death. Hard for me to believe he would knowingly do that after hearing the great stories about him. I believe a few of the women passed away soon after as well. There’s no doubt that he was one of the best to ever drive in NASCAR though!
@@zachb13 I obviously cannot speak for Tim, but the Tim I knew, I do not believe would have knowingly hurt anyone on this Earth.
@@zachb13 even if he "knew he had it", he most likely didnt know jack shit about transmission. People in general didnt know much about aids back then. Especially compared to what is known now...
@@youdropwemop8854 I’d say he more than likely knew that he got it from sex and he could spread it along to others having sex. That was pretty obvious even back then. I’d say the real question is if he knew he had it when he was spreading it.
@@zachb13 thats really more my point. I also didnt mean he wouldnt have known it spreads through sex. I just mean in general people didnt know shit compared to now. My point about him specifically is more that i just dont think he knew he was running around spreading death. That would be straight up evil and i just dont see that. Negligent/ignorant at most. I just think its far more likely that at the time he had no idea.

Dale knew Tim had AIDS, even here in this interview. Dale said “I think he had some other problem” when asked about Tim and drugs. Whether Tim told him he had AIDS or if Dale just knew the symptoms. The world will never know
Dale defended Tim. It was Richard Petty who wanted Richmond kicked out.

I wonder if he knew he was HIV+ during this interview. That double pneumonia may have been a direct result of HIV infection. Those drugs or medication he was taking may have been AZT.

From what I read, the day after the 1986 NASCAR awards ceremony, Tim fell ill with a cold. The cold wouldn't go away and Tim went to the doctor for treatment. There the doctor did some tests, which revealed that he had AIDS.

His actions in this interview tells me Drugs . If you look at his 87 interview he looks very different .

He might have dabbled in some drugs but it couldn't have been too deep or his actions and behavior towards people would have been less flamboyant either way he was gonna be the best had he luved.
The only thing full blown in NASCAR was Tim Richmond not the schedule.
What NASCAR busted Tim for was pseudoephedrine which does come up as Amphetamine on drug tests. Because Tim would not tell NASCAR why he took pseudoephedrine is why he was in trouble

I kinda have a theory that either he was gay and nascar found out, or they found out or heard "rumors" he had aids, and therefore assumed he was gay. And then falsified a drug test to get rid of him on something unrelated....its a theory lol
