So, what can I say about today's episode in relation to the novel?
3:10 Zhao Fan only features in this part of the story, as governor of Guiyang. I previously mentioned him under Episode 15, as an example of how people with the same surname in this culture see each other.
3:20 Strength of arms, sure. Wise council, dubious. Lu Bu's a meathead through and through. Actually he has one really cunning moment in the book -- Yuan Shu and Liu Bei both ask him to ally with them against the other, but he realizes as soon as one's out of the picture, he'll be the priority target for the other. So he invites both Liu Bei and Ji Ling (Yuan Shu's top general, first seen Episode 2) to a banquet, plants his halberd as a distance, and tells them if he hits the small side blade with an arrow, they have to call off their conflict, and if either refuses, he'll ally with the other. He makes the shot, delaying their war for a bit, and managing to stay out of it himself.
4:33 Bao Long is one of Zhao Fan's commanders. He's said to have "once killed a pair of tigers with bow and arrow."
4:35 Chen Shu is not a name that appears anywhere in the novel. He instead appears to be Chen Ying, another of Zhao Fan's commanders. He's described as "a master in hurling forked weapons."
9:07 Reminds me of how the novel frequently uses "memorial" in the archaic sense of "memorandum."
As far as the invasion of Guiyang goes, there's an interesting effort here to fit the events of the novel into the format of the game. My main complaint is they use Zhuge Liang be the one lured into a trap. In the novel, it's Zhao Yun who leads the campaign against Guiyang. He captures Chen Ying in battle, then releases him with orders to convince Zhao Fan to surrender. Zhao Fan had wanted to surrender to begin with, so he gives Zhao Yun his governor's seal and cord and receives him as an honored guest. They agree to regard each other as brothers.
Things fall apart when Zhao Fan asks Zhao Yun to marry his widowed sister-in-law. Zhao Yun is outraged for reasons that probably made a lot more sense at the time (among other things, calling it incest), and knocks down Zhao Fan when he sees him signal his guard to murder him. Chen Ying and Bao Long then attempt to lure Zhao Yun into a trap, but he sees through it and beheads them both. He then uses their men to take over the city.
Afterwards Liu Bei lets Zhao Fan continue being governor of Guiyang, where he presumably lives happily ever after. Nice guy.
Lu Bu is not involved in any of this, because he is still, and will remain, dead.
11:11 When Lu Bu is first introduced, his liege lord is a guy named Ding Yuan, who's some sort of adoptive father to him. Li Su describes Lu Bu as "brave but shallow, and forgetful of honor when it's to his advantage." Knowing this, he wins him over to Dong Zhuo's service by gifting him Red Hare, convincing him to murder Ding Yuan before switching. Zhang Fei at one point calls Lu Bu "bastard with three fathers." Lu Bu is later manipulated into killing Dong Zhuo, although it seems that didn't happen in this game.

9:08 I think it is a translation error. Likely meant to be "retire" instead of "repair".

    Time for another castle fight!
8:56 - 9:37 - I'm sure the guy working for the opposition is totally trustworthy.
    9:40 - 9:58 - Oh crap, four against on- 10:02 - 10:06 - Oh, three against two.

It would have been an interesting mechanic if the generic enemies in boss fights had to be defeated first, as ‘protectors’ to the generals. Then maybe add a tactic that would possibly allow the player to get around that. Generic enemies in boss fights, otherwise, don’t make much sense except to deal annoying bits of damage and soak up tactics damage, the latter probably being the main reason after seeing Zhuge Liang’s last tactic hit for likely more than 929 damage.

    *BACKSTABBERS EVERYWHERE!*
Oh, you think I'm kidding? There *will* be more! Simply stay tuned...
Now, *Zhao Fan* may have been spared in the predecessor game, but *Lu Bu* simply won't allow that to happen a second time! Speaking of the latter, got a spare Zheng Letter? Show him that right after the cutscene, and he will join the Han! *PERMANENTLY!*

I wonder if this game inspired the dynasty warriors games
