    I attempted this skip today for the first time, and after about 30 minutes I managed to pull it off once. I watched your video afterwards, and realized I could have made it easier on myself. I was going in from the right side.

      @RussianBlue4S  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are some people who can do it from the right side and get good results, but honestly it just works so much better from the left. However, it's not an obvious thing you'd know unless you either did some serious analysis of the skip or talked to someone who did. Just from playing the game it'd be really hard to know that different parts of the ramp act very differently!

    I watched your tutorial last night and it took about 30 minutes to get the first one, but now I can hit it like 10-20% of the time. I’ve got myself a recorded 1:34 after some practice, and an unrecorded 1:29. I still find it inconsistent, but that’s mostly because it’s a very hard trick. But it has saved over 40 seconds over my no skip PB of 2:12. This guide helped immensely. Thank you!

      There is actually a more modern, consistent method of doing this trick! This old method gives you what we call the Good Camera but it only works around 35% of the time at best. The consistent method gives a weird backwards camera but it's easy enough to learn to deal with and it can work every time for you. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/WnUL191Ft_g/w-d-xo.html

      @@RussianBlue4S I watched that around the same time, although I couldn't get the timing for the spindash down. I'll look into it a little deeper in a bit.

    • @RussianBlue4S
      @RussianBlue4S  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Munch_28 Use the cars on the right as a visual cue for when to start holding the spindash. You can just look for a certain colour car and press the button as soon as you see it and get really accurate timing that way. For the button presses if you can't get them in real time all you need to do is pause as you go over the pads. Then you move your hands so you have access to the Jump button (or the equivalent on your controller) and the start button on separate fingers. You can hit Jump to unpase and then Start too repause immediately after to do what we call a Pause Advance (like TASers would use Frame Advance) until Sonic is in the right position. Then when you're ready to go you have one finger above Start button and one that can quickly rock between the Jump and Action buttons. I use my thumb because I can just rock it between the two to get the inputs as low as a frame apart, but your controller and hand may need a different finger to be used. So then you just hit Start-Jump-Action as fast as you can and you should get the timing. With a bit of practice you can get this down extremely fast and reliable!

    • @Munch_28
      @Munch_28 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RussianBlue4S Oh, Pause Advancing would make it easier. The timing and lining up with the cars has always been the most difficult part for me, but if I watch some other runs with it in addition to taking this advice into account, I should be able to figure out that way. Also, pretty sure it would be Start-Action-Jump and not "Start-Jump-Action" but I get the gist. Thanks for explaining this in such detail to a rando like myself.

    What time would someone have to get before you would suggest them to do this skip? I haven't even done a run of the game yet, but I'd still like to see what you think.

    My boy dark quick question, I haven't speedrun any game before and sa2 was one of my childhood favourites so how would you recommend I learn from scratch? (except I know all the levels which I guess is beneficial) also gonna start with hero story.

    • @RussianBlue4S
      @RussianBlue4S  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Play the game, enjoy the game, enjoy going faster. Keep learning stuff you think is cool. If the game stops being fun, turn it off until you feel like turning it on again. That goes for pretty much any speed game. The best thing you can do is just play the game and learn its layout for a while.

    Thanks for the tutorial, I was able to pull through with your help. It took me 15m to successfully do it, i guess that is my worst speed run ever xD but the result matter of me pulling the trick off. I had some questions for you, i just recently started speed running, which you can see on my channel if you are interested. And since you are quite better than me i wonder if i could have a conversation with you, if you have some spare time. Anyway thanks for the tutorial.

      WOF Shadow I always have time. Your best bet is on Twitter, or if you can catch me when I'm streaming practice I can demonstrate whatever needs to be shown. Also, 15 minutes to get one CE skip is not altogether uncommon even if you know what you're doing. This skip is evil.

    • @gohan771ssj2
      @gohan771ssj2 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      RussianBlue Twitch, huh? Fair enough. Frankly I don't have an account there nor do visit it. However, I shall heed your advice and contact you there xD and how many times do you speed run live? I might start watching more livestreams and even do my own speedruns. Unfortunately i only speedrun action stage so i kind of suck at the treasure hunting stage.

    • @RussianBlue4S
      @RussianBlue4S  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      WOF Shadow I do speedruns several times a week after work, usually a good size stream on Sat or Sun as well. Not always SA2B runs, I do a lot of other stuff as well. And don't worry about going ham on practicing stages unless you really want to do competitive Hero or Dark story single segment runs. If you enjoy doing certain stages, then do those stages. ILs are very popular as well.

    • @gohan771ssj2
      @gohan771ssj2 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      RussianBlue I'm not familiar with the terms of words you use such as ILs, i'm still new ^.^ but i like to learn them though. About being competetive, it is something i would like to do, while streaming it altogether. But before i would initiate all of this i would like to know the community if you get my point. Being good at a game is one thing, being part of a community is another thing. That is also one of the reasons i contacted you, you seem like a person that is active, helping the community is something you like to do judging from your videos, and you seem like a genuine person, which are qualities i'm searching in the community. Where do you play your SA2B? If it is on the xbox 360 we can share our gamertags if you would feel like it!

      WOF Shadow The best place to get in touch with Sonic runners is to check out www.speedrunslive.com which hosts a lot of speedrunners, including Sonic runners like myself. Find one runner there doing Sonic, and they will almost always be able to point you to others. I recommend making up a Twitch account and following said people, it's free and makes keeping track of other runners way easier. The leaderboards for Single Segment runs like Hero Story and Dark Story are on www.speedrun.com/sa2b, and the Individual Level leaderboard is on www.soniccenter.com. Those are the best ways to find other runners.
