Often times in a romantic relationship, humans have a hard time understanding their partner's needs... especially during stressful situations.
This can be frustrating because if our partner is in pain, we want to help make things easy for them and this can be hard for a woman to ease a man's pain.

Love love love that you promote hugs even if its with a pillow or my favorite, a stuffed toy.
I believe I was SUCCESSFUL at diffusing my boyfriend, of only 5 weeks. He was overwhelmed with people asking for his help and attention while he knows I am in the wings anticipating our next "visit" (visit is what I call our ti.es together)
We had hoped to see each other last night after two whole days of not seeing each other, late, after both of us were done with our weekly obligations. But he got snagged again by someone else's needs begging for him. I sensed he was afraid that I would be hurt or feel less of him for not 'making himself available. PLUS, he didn't like revealing to me that his "good weather" bicycling routine he's had for years EVERY Sunday at 11:00 am with a couple of his male friends. I could here his agitation (keep in mind that he volunteered to me that he would make sure he made no other plans on Sunday mornings so he could attend the church that I Sing at every Sunday which gets out at 11:15).....SO, dilemma for him. He said on our call last night that he changed the long standing 11:00 routine to NOON. And I poured praise and empathy on him for being such a helpful friend and for having this healthy and bonding routine with his friends every Sunday. I could hear and feel his racing heart slown down and he quickly sounded calm and grateful for my attitude and support.
I don't want to lose this QUALITY man. (((Stop my beating heart)))

Disneyland is my idea of Hell.
I like to give a big long hug. I like to make the other person to refocus by saying something funny. Last but not least, I like to give them space after so they can get through whatever they're going through. In other words, I basically do what I would want someone to do for me. I've found that the other ends up mirroring my technique to cheer me up and it works because I get it!

Meh, waiting can be some of the best times! Some of my best conversations have been while ‘waiting’. Provides a neutral zone opportunity to discuss issues of the heart. No point sweating stuff that is outside of our control.

Great story Jonathon, Thank you for sharing. It's amazing how the power of touch can bring us back to the present and calm us when it's combined with the right words. Your dates willingness to recognize your discomfort, not judge you, and being positive and not negative into the moment, is a reminder. A reminder that we all have a choice and the ability to practice patience and kindness with each other no matter what the situation may be and it's always a good thing to do.

Good story. I always operate from a place of stability and love (and boundaries), but in my experience it just makes men worse, less stable with their emotions and they end up with extremely high expectations of me. I don’t find I’d hard to meet a guy that’s into me, I find it hard to meet an emotionally stable guy.

When you were explaining all of the waiting and walking and the tram etc I actually felt excited! It's a great time to talk or people watch and be silly, can't really get to know each other when you're screaming on a ride LOL
I think an amusement park would be a great place for a first second or third date. You get a glimpse into how they react to things that would normally stress others out. Tantruming children, rude people, overly excited people, insane prices of everything! Lol.

Not if you're young, in lover, and view it as an adventure. My ex and I did Disney World when we lived together in LA the college summer before we got married. I remember having fun and sighing a bit at the lines...2 kids off midwestern farm country.

I can't blame you about that freaking waiting! I also hate it. Especially when Disneyland/World is so damn expensive. You pay TOO MUCH. Walt Disney would be unhappy with how expensive it is now. He wanted it to be for the middle class, not the very wealthy.

I made a mistake with a man who is now just a friend by getting upset and furustated when his car broke down after 3 days earlier of his trying to fix it and he said I was pouting salt on the wounds I did not mean too..I was never nasty ,name calling of angry but wish I had see this video sooner I should have been more encouraging, it was a long distance relationship, too hard to do and most of my week there was occupied by the car

Interesting the things I learn from these videos and the comments. With this situatio of Jonathan's, maybe there was probably more there than meets the eye! Such as uncertainty about the person and unclear expectations secretly "read" the situation correctly at the time and compensating with her patient behavior.

My young daughter has a theory about this. She says that it's because you're a white male especially the wealthy ones. That no one ever taught you that you can't have everything you want the way you want it, so you never learned to be patient or emotionally controlled. I wonder if she has a point🤔
