- Today's debate.....Will crayons work as scooter wax? Crayola crayons are made of wax, so in theory they should work just fine...but I've never personally tried it. So, I went to the nearest Target and went shopping for some childhood arts and crafts supplies. I ended up buying both the name brand crayon as well as the off brand box of crayons. Once I got the colorful box, I went straight to the skatepark to start off with the small experiment. Before getting into the little project, I made sure to get some scootering done with my helmet camera. I did a few tricks like triple tailwhip, a couple barspin tricks, 270, 360...but no backflip today. Sadly, I figured out that it's still too soon to do any flips (with either my scooter or my body)...and I learned the hard way. But, I still had a good time doing the few tricks that I did. Once I was warmed up and ready to try out the Crayon wax, I broke the box open and chose a color. We started with blue and to my amazement...it worked INCREDIBLY! You guys will see just how well the crayons worked as wax. I did the math and if you use the generic brand of crayons (which cost just 25 cents) you can wax the coping of a ramp, any ledge, rail, etc. for UNDER A PENNY. Yes you read that right....LESS THAN A PENNY. That means you could probably do an entire skatepark the size of Cal Oaks skate park for a quarter. Pretty cool.
