I was in process of hiring out for UP when the Schnabel ran through il. Now I'm a Conductor in the Chicago service unit. My son wants this car, all i need now is two flat cars, the Orange BNSF unit (i have two green BN units and the caboose), and just two more containers to make the actual train.
Interesting fact , that the name of that car is adapted from the german word for it: Tragschnabelwagen, what could be translated as "Carrying beak car". Beak as the adapter has the form like a birds beak, in German "Schnabel" Great YT Channel. Greetings from German Railfan
I had personally seen too schnabel cars in Charelston, South Carolina. They were sitting hint he docks next to the harbor. They were carrying a transformer for a power plant.
Hello ! Greetings from Europe. The Word "Schnabel" in German is a other name for the mouth of a bird, like a duck or swan. I think its also the name of the person that developed the Car. Great Video, keep going.
No, it's not the name of the inventor. In German, those cars are called "Tragschnabelwagen" which means carrying-beak-wagon because of those long "beaks" that hold the load.
James I have watched both your videos on this car. Other than a tank load and a transformer load are their any differences? Would you say 1 is better than the other. Thanks Jason
I bought the original runs the Red & the Blue versions with the Generators. Tested them on a small test layout. Waiting to put them on a regular size large layout. 👍✅
Cool looking car... I think I might have dated a girl called "schnae" when I was a teenager... but that's a story for another day. Great review - thanks.
Remember that the $350.00 is US $ , and with the Aussie $ running at 70 cents or less to the US $, it's going to hurt a hell of a lot more Downunder and in other places where the currency is below parity with the US $. I don't know if I even want to do the maths to see how painful it would be.
Cool review of a very cool piece of rolling stock. Heck, I didn't even know about them, or that they even existed! Nice to be able to do a little reading up on Schnabel Cars! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schnabel_car
22” minimum radius? What a joke. I have one with the transformer load, and I had to build new pivots halfway up the carrying arms (my justification is that this emulates the steerable carrying arms on the prototype). This way, when it’s loaded, the carrying arm pivots are the same distance apart as the king pins on the trucks of an 85’ passenger car, which makes it much more tolerant of curves, and much more tolerant of trackside signals, cross bucks, fences, and structures. The underhang on curves is little more than that of an autorack, flatcar, or passenger car.
Well......., I can't find it. I looked back trying to find the first monstrosity rail car review or prototype video and could not find it. Can someone help me out? Maybe the title or the best thing would be the link. I too am going to build a layout with my grandson next to me. He's great. My daughter, his mother, difficult to say the least. But I'd love to see the original review and you holding your teeny weeny son. It would rind me of little Boo Boo when he was tiny and helpless. The Mighty Mite watches adults now carefully and then mimics what he saw them, us do. Like pouring a drink of milk for himself out of a gallon jug. Yep he almost had it accomplished when discovered. A scary one, he wanted waffles. He got the frying pan on the stove and was trying to turn the burners on when discovered. Freak out scary time. Lots of admonishing and explaining to which he replied, Uh OK. Doesn't talk yet so that was astonishing, but he is incredible. Sorry so long can't help it. Proud of that little guy.
For the price of this all PLASTIC car they want how much???Bachmann is trying to ripp us all off as usual. Worth 50 bucks in a few years street price. What does that tell you!
Now that Bachman has made it maybe 1 of the quality brands can make one that is worth paying $350 for. It looks like there is a lot of room for improvements.. like doing something about all that open empty space in the control towers.
I like your reviews but I feel the unboxing part unnecessarily makes it longer than it needs to be also you seem to be learning about the vehicle as you go along perhaps if you inboxed off camera and learnt about the vehicle prior to uploading a review it would be more educational for us viewers just a thought
looks awfully strange and cheap to me. I would rather put the $350 towards a Broadway limited Imports or Athearn steam loco with smoke and sound and get my moneys worth with top quality.

I just got one for 150 bucks. Brand new. I’m so excited.
I saw one of these cars at the train show in Raleigh this past Sunday. Kinda wish I had bought it

Athearn Blue box I think
Thank you for the info..nice set, good people! God bless you.
Can we see one of your engines pulling it olease?
Please make a review on the Bachmann 0-6-0 T saddle tank Porter.
could you a quick video of the Schnabel car with a locomotive going around a curve?
Hello. The car is plastic or have a part in metal?
how do you think this would fare on a 60" curve? Enough to not upset a 2" gap between the mainlines?
can you show your Thomas collection
Five great train
According to Wikipedia, a Schnabel car is a railcar designed to carry a oversized load in such a way that the load becomes a part of the car's body.
can you reveiw the bachmann overland limited i wanna know if it is worth my time in investing or not

Plz do more csx
You need 22" radius but also have to make sure no scenery close to the tracks because of the over hang

Beautiful intro
I liked this car so much after seeing it in person that I now own two. Best investment I've made.
Cool looking car... I think I might have dated a girl called "schnae" when I was a teenager... but that's a story for another day.
Great review - thanks.
Please do the Norfolk c30-7
Thanks James that was nice. Just subbed you, but I think I have seen nearly every video.
Great review. It would be nice to add to any layout but the price is a little out there.Scott
Great review!
Love the intro xD
Damn, that must be hard to put on a track, even my o scale one with 6 trucks is
When u gonna do a layout tour?!?!?! Lol
Hey, I don't know if you noticed but your into music and outro music are waaaay higher in volume then anything else, you should look into that man!
How expensive?
Very nice review! I wish I could use one of those but no way that would fit through my tunnel or knock off every piece of scenery.
350 dollars for a car holy crap I can get a Amtrak with a fleets for that price
PLEASE MAKE ONE IN O SCALE !!!!
That would be over 5 feet long...
True but it would be a work of art ! In fact I am building one ! So far it is looking good.!
Great review James, do they have it in N scale? Bob, at Longshadowsmodeltrees.com
+Widi1956 Bob, no N scale for the schnabel to my knowledge.
+jlwii2000 I know this wouldn't be prototypical but hook the first gen Schnabel to the second gen Schnabel just for fun or something
They use these type cares holding boilers also
Like your videos
i have the fist run, i want this but just the load.
Nice car but way too expensive

I say shnay ble car lol
I don't understand, when will we be able to invent a locomotive that can pull a schnabel car *TRAIN?*
just to let you know, I ran this video at 2X speed, which, for my brain made the video more enjoyable.
+Edward Casey maybe i talk too slow... but then some people say i talk to fast when I try to do that :/
Wowwww, what a savage! You just wrecked him, I'm sorry.
+Northside_modelrailroader ?

look like plastic toy....quality is ok ???
Some "weathering" would draw attention away from some "plasticky" elements. Thanks.
