  • Motherhood is one of the most honorable and difficult jobs out there. However, many mothers, at one point or another, may have had plans for a career outside of motherhood. If you have dreams of being a nurse, you may be wondering, “is nursing a good career for moms?”
If you don’t think it is possible to balance a nursing career and being a mother, think again. Kate, a student in Mercer University’s Second Degree Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) track, describes her story of motherhood and nursing.
Kate says she always knew she wanted to become a nurse. She began her first undergraduate degree in public health with the intention of entering a nursing program. But when she became pregnant with her son, her priorities and plans changed.
Even in motherhood, Kate says she knew she still wanted to become a nurse.
“I saw an ad for Mercer come up and put in my information and I got a call from my counselor,” she says.
After two years of contact with her enrollment counselor, Kate was admitted into the ABSN track. It was important to Kate that with so much going on in her life, she had support with entering the nursing field.
“I applied a lot of other places, and I did not hear back from most of them. With Mercer, I got a call from my advisor once a month,” she says.
The Mercer ABSN track was ideal for Kate as it is designed to help people looking to make a career shift later in life. With children at home, it was important Kate have flexibility in her education.
“The program is partially online and partially in-person and that works out very well with having kids and a life outside of school,” Kate says.
Now that you have answers to the question, “is nursing a good career for moms?” it’s time to speak with an enrollment counselor and find out if Mercer’s ABSN track is the right choice for you. absn.mercer.ed...
