Just a little trick I used with my headlamps while backpacking.. Take one of your batteries and flip it around backwards in the headlamp. It’ll never be able to turn on while in your pack, but your battery will stay with the headlamp.

• You can save around 16oz (1lb) if you upgrade to a quilt 850FP instead of a sleeping bag 650FP. That is an easy choice. • You could save around 16-48oz (1-3lbs) as there are lighter alternatives for your tent (duplex, x-mid pro-2, etc.) and backpack (HMG, Evolved Supply Ranger, Zpacks) • You could save 4oz (0.25lb) get a smaller first-aid kit (0.5 AMK). You don't need a first aid kit that large. • You could save 4.6oz (0.29lb) if you swap your sit pad for Zpacks (only $10) • You can save around 6oz (0.38lb) if you swap your reservoir for a bottle adapter/hydration tube and swap the Nalgene out for smart water bottles. Then you can have the lighter weight but also the accessibility of a hydration tube for your migraines. This would also allow you to exclusively use sawyer and ditch the bag for befree to cut a couple more ounces.
that sounds like a happy middle ground for weight. I think the tent weight is absolutely the one area to save a lot of weight and is worth the money. the other stuff is definitely mix and match as those weight savings aren't individually that huge. I'm also laughing a bit about the nalgene. The slightly flexible opaque bottles are all nalgene originally sold. Not sure if that one's exactly the same material, but tritan came later. And I definitley agree about pack comfort and function being a big deal. I have a traditional style deuter day pack. Weighs a bit, but it disappears when it's one because of how comfy it is.
Sleep hygien light food/water is things that are allowed to be a bit bulky and heavy. If you aint sleeping or eating well your hike gona bee a nightmare

I have the Mountain Hardware UL strato2 tent and hate it!! The rainfly no matter how I stake it ends up getting extremely soggy/wet and I haven't even tested it in rainy conditions yet. When I contacted their customer service they were awful and did nothing to accommodate my (damaged?) rain fly. Do not recommend their UL tents.

@@deadeyes4626 we are hammock campers. Helps with my husbands back problems so much that he (and kids) actually sleeps in a hammock at home (eye bolts in corner where ceiling meets walls). You are more susceptible to cold, but we think it’s well worth it. We use Hennessy Hammocks.
The Nemo tensor pads have failed on me to many times. Otherwise everything is pretty much on point. Maybe try using a quilt in the summer. I'm buying REI 15 magma sleeping bag for $100 on sale then I'll marry it with my 30 REI quilt for some winter hiking.
Question about the Nemo Fillow Elite pillow- the reviews are REI are pretty bad so I figured I’d ask- would this be a decent product for a broad shouldered side sleeper with some neck issues? Also, as a person with OCD it’s extremely aesthetically pleasing and satisfying for me that your pillow, sleeping bag, trowel and bidet all match. 😂

You younging's and your obsession with filly pillows. I've been back packing since the 70's when tang tasted great and external fram packs rei-gned king. Even the rocks were softer back then
I am shocked by the waste of money on this equipment. This little commercial is over $1500 in camping supplies. You are touting a $550 tent, my tent was 12.99 and it hasn't let me down yet. Your stove is a whopping $50! My whole cooking gear set up didn't cost that much. Spork $11! I got mine at the Goodwill, $0.75! Here's where my issue lies, the gear, which I am sure is great and all as WAY over priced. Seriously overpriced. For someone who loves nature as much as you seem to, there is a lot of waste, and a HUGE carbon footprint behind all of this. Maybe you should try Ethical Backpacking instead of Ultralight. Just some food for thought to put into that $90 "Bear vault".

The tritan nalgene bottles are way easier to clean, even though your adding a few ounces over the lightweight one.

If you're a side sleeper then I wouldn't recommend the nemo, it's great for back and front sleepers, but your hip will sink like a rock
