I mean, she has a point. They're women now and while they aren't old, they're old enough that they've moved on from girlish cuteness. Plus, as an artist, you have to move on otherwise you're just a cover band for you own group. Redoing the classics over and over makes you an older act, living in nostalgia. Producing and doing new stuff keeps you relevant in the market. TWICE are a senior group, but they they perform like they debuted a year or so ago. They don't act like they are industry legends and that's why they still are fresh.
But except from the maknae line (they became adults in the signal era) everyone was an adult in the cute era 🤔

Everywhere you see the members apart from MVs and performances they are girly, cute, bubbly and fun. People falsely equate bright and cute concepts with being childish and immature. Honestly the behind the scenes are more enjoyable than the MV itself.

@Bio Museum they still do. They should not have renewed their contract with JYPEnt if they aren't enjoying it anymore. It's just that this time is totally different now for the worse. Every move of the idols is being hated for absolutely ridiculous reasons. Even just breathing the same air, idols are being accused of dating. I have been a KPop fan since the 2nd gen, and things changed for the worst.

Dating scandal isn't new to 3rd gen and beyond. I'm hoping 4th gen do away with it because it's extremely outdated and unnecessary. We want our idols to be happy, not constantly forced into hiding. There is a lot of wokeness intereference, but that's an opportunity express value
I know some people miss the older cute Twice concepts, but I strongly prefer their more mature style, starting with Fancy. They grew up, and their sound grew up with them, as it should.
Exactly it was a needed transition if you want to keep the longevity of the group and besides they are still doing it in within their seal it's not like they went from one extreme to the other they just transitioned into a more mature style as you said.
Fancy didn’t feel more mature to me compared to their previous title tracks. It still felt very cute. The only difference was the MV had a slightly darker aesthetic than normal (+ Yes or Yes aesthetic was even darker). The transition imo really began with Feel Special. They had a new air of elegance.

@@cbcimutebi5564 No fancy was the transition. It wasn't "mature" but not as cute as their previous TTs, and new fans who preferred a mature concept came. That was when people began to see twice differently. It was a perfectly slow transition.

@@Reiderreiter No, they're great songs. I love both those songs too. And that's what I'm saying, you can love them. And I'm sure they will again too some day. But also no part of me blames Jihyo for wanting her music to match her age and getting a bit of separation. But aging is a very interesting experience. I know when I hit 30, I reflected a lot on my early 20s, missing it, wanting a bit of it back. So don't be too surprised if she has a change of heart in a few years and TT and What is love make her proud and happy again.

I love the fact they keep innovating while staying true to their own created sound. Songs like Set Me Free, Scientist, Talk That Talk, I Can't Stop Me, Fancy and Feel Special fit perectly with Cheer Up, What Is Love and TT yet they are also different. The girls mature so it's only natural their music evolves with them and TWICE's music is evolving in the best way possible. I honestly feel their music just keeps getting better and better.

Ever since 3Mix (Jihyo, Nayeon and Jeongyeon) started as trainees, they have witnessed other groups raise and fall, even in their own label. Remaining "fresh" is always a major concern for artists - specially in Korea, where tons of younger girl groups debut every year.
Part of TWICE succes so far, is how diverse are their concepts & music influences, and they have already presented more upbeat versions of their old songs in concerts. That allows them to keep the 'freshness' for the fans.
I still love the original cute versions. There is something special about songs that are carefree and just transmits good vibes; specially in these trying times.
Watching their first videos is always a nostalgic trip too.
A bit sad to hear this but I totally understand that they are trying to move away from the cute concept since they are all grown women. But their older songs will forever be some of my favourites
I agree. I love the Cute concept so much, but I also love seeing them branch away from it a little bit and it makes perfect sense why they would do that. Like, say, Apink for example. (Whom I also love).

@definitely a proper username yeah! A lot of them are totally fine singing with but dancing them is another thing. You can love a song but totally not feel the dance enough to do it. Like what is love to me is still a cute song but it’s not one I’d probably like to dance to as I get older. If that makes sense
I think a good compromise is singing the acoustic version of What Is Love. They still performed the song but not doing the parts they feel embarrassed doing now that they're older.
They could do the same.for Cheer Up; just sing an acoustic version
They can singing these songs on freestyle, like in the concert' with or without pressure doing its choreo
or they could simply not perform that dreadful song ever again :)
or upgrade it into a mare "mature" version, like they did with Signal, for example! i don't know what exactly they changed in the sound, but they performed in suits and the performance gave off more of a retro and classy vibe other than cute and goofy
I love when they're real like that and aren't constrained by their idol personnas. Jihyo is approaching 30 and all the girls are almost in their mid-20s, they will perform even better if they can relate to what they sing about.

Cute shouldn’t have an age limit tho 😢 and honestly they’re the best at cute concepts. I think that even the fancy era had the perfect balance between cute and sexy. However this comeback screams “sad beige” to me. As a once, I still support them and bought the album and vip tickets lol but I will miss the cute concepts so much.

I personally love the Cute Concept mainly because of TWICE and the thing with them is they handle it really well, not just with their songs and on-stage, but also with their personalities. They couldn't have a more perfect concept.
But at the same time, I totally get them wanting to do more mature and sophisticated songs and I'm 100% here for that. Even though I joke saying that I can't believe songs like ICON and Scandal came from the same group who did LIKEY and What is Love?, in all seriousness, though, it's not like they can't pull that off and, again, they're adults. They can't do cute forever, but I don't think it's anything to be embarrassed about, but I still support them 100%. There's nothing TWICE can't do. 💛💛💛

I think Set Me Free concept has a theme of being set free from their cutesy era that made them famous. We need to let them grow
That's what I try telling other people too, since Twice is now in their mid-20s-late 20s, it would be weird to see them still do "shy shy shy" as like a 27yr old. literally, EVERYONE still likes seeing Twice perform and sing their old songs, and, well tbh, It would be kinda old for them to perform Ooh Aah for the 30th time in the 8 years of them being idols.

There is a reason why Asian men tend to lean towards liking the cute innocent type of women more than other types. Cute and innocent is very popular over there. I really want them to do something like Feel Special again. Even today, it is by far my favorite tt. I like how personal it was. But I also want them to do something like Cry For Me. That concept suits them very well too. Or maybe gradually move into something a little bit more mature, like SMF but a tad bit sexier. Maybe we'll see that in a few years.

They do. When I saw them in Chicago in 2019, they rearranged Cheer Up, Heartshaker, and Signal.
I saw them in TX in 2022, but most of their older cute songs were used as encore stages then, but they do still perform them.

if that's the case even some of the lyrics in their current song(s) can get 'embarrassing' sometime in the future when they get more mature and developed different mindset. if sth was good in the past, they can still perform it with the fun reminiscence of the good old days...that won't make them less mature or stuck in childhood/past/etc. maybe when they get more matured they will realize that and able to just enjoy their past and present however different those phases are from each other. same goes to kpop fans who always automatically think cute=childish, sexy=mature. but i guess with kpop, we just look at the surface and that's how it looks.
Its a problem with kpop in general. Its to much rooted on trends and popularity, and its seem like it has a time limit to how much it can last.
As Someone who listen to classical music, 70s rock, jazz, etc i think that music should be timeless.
Now, because kpop is so connected to trends it can forget its real value as an art form. The girls gotta be reminded of the importance of what they've done... Songs like tt are historical and iconic.
I don't think they need to be singing it all the time though, almost every good artist hate doing it because they wanna live their New stuff. And its completely fine.

@@julianomaxter tt is not historical or iconic. Imagine if someone like Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, etc had to sing that sh*t. They wouldn't have been the stars we know them as today - even for the Korean audience. The standards for kpop are lower. 'Signal' by Twice was named 'song of the year' by Korean general public when it was one of the worst kpop songs relased that year.
'Twicetagram' was a trash album. Compared to 'Formula of Love' which was a good album. Twice's albums have improved. Plus, they're singing in a more comfortable range and don't sound like chipmunks anymore, which can only a positive thing.
Btw, kpop has always been about trends and 95% of kpop idols based on Western music. TT was just based on Disney Kidz bop. Which is fine for a song in a kids cartoon, but not for any self-respecting adult or teenager to perform.

Jihyo may feel conflicted and worried about this, but honestly every group is the same, and it doesn't change the fact that many fans still love those songs. I know that they may think its cringe but I promise that thousands of people will go crazy to see them perform their old songs because its what drew us to them in the first place. She mentioned old groups like SNSD still performing, and you see they still performed Gee in their reunion concert. Suju/ Seventeen/ KARA all perform their old hits no matter how cringe they may be if you hold them to current trends. They are classics for a reason!!! Not saying they ONLY perform old songs but to NEVER perform them is really sad too.

She did that exact what is Love ending pose in one of Killin me good performances. They still perform all those songs in their World tour, even though sometimes, some members feel embarrassed but they still enjoy performing them for ONCEs.
They don't really hate, like Sana is the one who changed the shy shy shy choreography which blew up in Korea, TWICE members choose TT to be their song which blew up in Japan otherwise they were performing in school classrooms & streets before Shy shy shy.
I don't remember but in one of interview Jihyo said like(not exact words but roughly)"we don't want to be known as girls who JUST do cute dances, we want to show how amazing artists we are" & I see where that coming from... people still think like they just cute girls no talent at all n all when they can not just sing, rap, dance but also write, compose & choreograph them. I agree if the current songs hold the same quality of the old days, set me free, TTT and scientist are good songs but they are following the same song structure since yes or yes and are like bsides, up no more, basics and cry for me sound more a title and even more "fresh"

It could also be possible to change up the style of a song. It might not work for every song, but you could definitely come up with interesting and cool takes just by picking a different style. It's a way to be endearing in retrospect. I hope that I can still see TWICE in concert, many years from now and I would love every single song and performance, no matter how long it has been.

The thing about asian women is, they are still cute. Twice is someone we grew up with now, and seeing them then vs now is very different, but similar in terms of looks. They got more mature, but they're still the cute girls from long ago. Cuteness, pretty, and beauty don't fade after age if you're actually cute, pretty, or beautiful imo. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm 30 now and since childhood I've always thought older women were beautiful. That hasn't changed.

I love twice bc it feels like we grow up together. Their song is a journey. From mean girl who don't need love, but suddenly crying TT when they dont get attention, asking what is love, finally get love and proud about it (the best thing I ever did), broke up and hope u will Cry For Me. In the end they find love again in Alchohol Free, then repeat asking TTT and fall in love again. I love the connection of their song

this is just jihyo not all of twice, and it's recent, chaeyoung did say she liked both the sexy and cute concepts not too long ago and this was after fancy. As a pre-Fancy once I disliked all the new onces dragging their cute concepts, fancy just came out and all the stans were already hating on what was still twice's main concept. I like both of their new and old stuff, it suits their maturity.

I’m gonna miss the old cute TWICE TT… but honestly I really love the Ready To Be era. R&B and rock really suits them, and the style is more mature. I just hope they keep performing for ONCEs

Twice has came so far since their debut. In a Blink of an eye they went from their dorms all huddled up in blankets waiting on their MV to start. Now they are all grown up. A part of me is sad bc that Era is gone and it went by so fast. It just goes to show you that time is something so precious and it goes by so fast. Twice has grown up and what ONCE was these adorable cuties grew up to be Amazing wonderful ladies that we admire so much. We can't expect them to freeze in time which sometimes I wish so that we had more time with them. I thinking moving a head we will see a dramatic shift between being cute and being I guess you could say sexy. I can also see things changing like TTT. We are use to seeing them play cute games. Moving ahead I think we will see more grown up stuff. But whatever the changes may come that's ok. We Are ONCE and we will be there. We will stay by their side and go down with the ship. WE ❤YOU TWICE!!!

I get it but I think they have nothing to be embarrassed about. They've made some A1 pop songs and sometimes pop can be cheesy. I think it's nice that the younger members of their group were able to do that stuff. But I can imagine they are ready to see the back of some of it for now. Definitely not forever cause one day the nostalgia will hit them again lol.

I love Jihyo in Bam House(?) she’s always seem so vibrant but chill (one of those ppl who are so mature they can be childish) and it really shine when it was just her for a solid 20 mins
