This project turned out so well. Coincidentally, I wanted to make this exact scene as a book nook as well. But it never occurred to me to do it from the perspective you did. Facing the outside of mount doom and looking into the volcano. Also the tip with the acrylic pushing the paint down to create a water effect is so clever. Definitely saving that in the memory bank! I only recently discovered your channel but you quickly turned into one of my favorite hobby channels. Thank you for using your time to make these videos.

If you remember from the movie, there was a heavy lava waterfall coming down from the side, making it look really hot and dangerous inside of the mountain. I was planning on making a book nook out of the moment Gollum hit the lava hugging the ring and making it look really chaotic with rocks flying in the air.

I really just enjoy the funny zen of your videos! Just a tip I learned back in the 80s when I couldn’t afford a mirror with a frosted design that I wanted. CLEAR Con-Tact paper will give a perfect frost to any glass smooth surface so you don’t have to sand (or sandblast) anything. Just spray a light soapy solution on the glass/acrylic, place the Con-Tact and squeegee out the water and air bubbles with something like a credit card. I have it on the side lights of my front door for 15 years now and no one can see through. Just so you know, I am 70 years old and I watch most of what you do… you are so silly and entertaining, and I love your trial and error approach to creating… it’s my approach too and will serve you well! Nerd on!

Point of order, the mountain's name is Orodruin. It's commonly referred to in language of the people of the west as something along the lines of "Mount Doom", after translation. Prof Tolkien's many notes and letters cover a lot of that sort of nerdy detail.

Thanks! In the interest of not making the video too long, I opted to chop out a bit of the sculpting stuff. I do lots of full blown sculpts, so if you just imagine teeeeny tiiiiiny versions of that stuff, you'll get the idea!

I have properly chastised in the comments by many a Tolkien fan, and I stand corrected absolutely. My disappointment should clearly lie with the people of Middle Earth for choosing such a lazy nickname for the mountain!

For example 'merry's name means happy/merry in the hobbit language, so toilkin called him 'merry' as that was a close word in english we would take as a name. 'Frodo' means something too but apparently 'bilbo' was just 'bilba' but hobbit names ending in 'a' don't sound masculine to us, so 'Bilbo.' here is the excerpt from the LOTR wiki, I didn't know if 'mt doom' was just a misnomer but I figured if all the characters names were, the mountain probably was as well. Tolkien wrote the LOTR book as if someone speaking English translated it from hobbits speech. So Mount Doom (and all the hobbits) actually have totally different names and the names in the book are the closes English translation to it.

Tolkien wrote the LOTR book as if someone speaking English translated it from hobbits speech. So Mount Doom (and all the hobbits) actually have totally different names and the names in the book are the closes English translation to it.

Mount doom is called orodruin (fire mountain) or it's more common name Amon Amarth literally translated into common as mountain (Amon) and Doom/Fate (Amarth)
