  • Here is a simple, fast, and fun woodturning project that is great project for beginners. Two rustic tea light holders turned out of sycamore wood. I am a self-taught woodworker/crafter who still has much to learn so please don't view this content as instructive. Enjoy!

It would help to know what products you were using and the bit size

Thanks for you comment. For the bit, I believe I used a 1-1/2" forstner bit.

What was the purpose of the chips after sanding?

Great question. Using the shavings helps burnish the wood and gives it a nicer finish.

what are you finishing with? applying to the wood?

It's a basic finish that I make. The base is mineral oil, beeswax, and carnauba wax. Thanks for watching!

Is the wood green or have you allowed it to dry?

If I am remembering correctly the wood was dry for this project. Dry wood will definitely be best to prevent cracking as it drys. Thanks for watching.
