Completely agree! The Z5 is the most underrated, and misunderstood camera out there. It has been burdened by the ‘beginner camera’ moniker, and, thus dismissed by many. I still use my Z5 as a companion to my Z8 and as my street shooter with the magnificent Z 26 2.8. In the early days of Nikon Z, I rocked a pair of Z5’s for many weddings, producing some of my favorite images, to this day. It’s got a vibe, man!
I purchased the Z5 a few years ago based on your recommendation and it was a fantastic second body to my Z9. Whenever it is on sale (as it is now) it is a screaming bargain at $999 for a full-frame full-featured gem. I traded mine in for a Zf but it served its purpose for me as a full-frame stepping stone.
The Z5 has been a solid companion for a few years. I picked it up as a technology refresh and have been pretty happy with it. What it brings that my DSLRs don't is freedom to explore quirky lenses with adapters.
@@ZWadePhoto I have leftovers from trades I have done over the years. Old Minolta MC Rokkor lenses, Pentax Takumars, and classic non-Ai Nikkors of course, but the weirder the better. The ones I have messed with lately are T-mount lenses from the 60's and 70's, and some Soviet and east German lenses that were built for the Pentacon six mount. A Carl Zeiss Jena 180/2.8, a Meyer 300/4, Vega 90/2.8 (fun macro), CZJ Flektogon 50/4, the one T-mount that I use for people pictures is a 135/3.5 that's so tiny it looks like a Leica lens. Some of these have a natural soft focus around the edges that adds an ethereal effect to portraits or or other soft subjects, others collect flare in such a way it's easy to manipulate as an addition to your composition. It's just fun to tinker and obsess over possibilities rather than the clinical purity of lenses with flat MTF charts.
Speaking of 20mm I am still searching for the Voigtlander 20mm f3.5 f-mount. It is only second hand available. Ok you must stop it down to f8 to get optimal results but that's fine by me.
If a z5ii is ever released, no photographer will ever need to get the Zf or z6iii. Imagine the retail price of a z5ii with exspeed 7 chip and a BSI sensor. I had the z5 for about 3 years but I sold it and sold the full frame lenses I had. I am not a professional photographer. The ergonomics is perfect and picture quality is perfect too but I just didn’t like the size of the lenses. I wanted a zoom lens of 28-75 f/2.8 that I can use daily to walk around but I just didn’t like how huge the lenses are for full frame Nikon Z mount. Switching to APSC.
When I want to travel small and light I switch to my Z50. I use one of 4 lenses on it. The kit lens is excellent for general shooting. I also use the 12-28 for wide and the full frame 24-200 for tele shots. For night shots I use the 24 f1.7.
I love my Z5. Been using and abusing it for 2 years. My only big problem is that the autofocus has failed me several times at important moments. I want to upgrade to the z6ii. Dunno if thats a smart move or not.
@@gustavo11811 honestly my dude, the Z6ii isn’t going to impress you with AF either. Like the Z5, awesome sensor images look great. But if you want AF that performs like the rest of the industry, Z6iii is the least expensive. Don’t worry about the dumb videos talking about dynamic range. I and a bunch of others have largely debunked it. Just something to think about. It’s worth being patient and saving for longer because Z6iii is awesome. adorama.rfvk.net/Mm4gPJ

The ZF is definitely an upgrade! Nice my dude! Thanks for being a member

Ooo what quirky lenses 👀

A lot of ppl sleep on the Z5. I’ve done a ton of work with it and still pull it out on occasion over my Z8 and other cameras.
The price would suggest otherwise, but like I always say, that sensor render REALLY damn well.
I love this lens.
Oh man it’s so rad
I am beginning to shoot portraits with my Z5, usually with the 24-120mm f/4, what is your recommendation for focus modes?
@@Gregs_Camera I don’t find the eye tracking reliable enough to trust it always, so I usually shot single point AF-C

@@ZWadePhoto thank you for the advice. Guess I´ll have to save for the 6iii and keep using my Z5. Maybe I´ll get more z glass.
@@gustavo11811 Or get the Zf. $500 cheaper with the improved AF.
Good video on a great lens.
And i'm glad you found your straw hat ..🦘
Haha. Actually not mine, but I got one real similar now that I’m bald
