- Another 2-fer Thursday. "Watermelon Man", is a jumpin' jazz standard written by Herbie Hancock, and it was first released on his debut album, "Takin' Off" in 1962. It was released as a grooving bop tune and featured improvisations by Freddie Hubbard and Dexter Gordon. A single of the tune reached the Top 100 of the pop charts. Here is my 6/9/2022 version of the tune on my jazzy jumpin' Hammond Organ, on a simply beautiful Summer-like day. My left foot thinks he's a rock bass man..... So be it. "Life is Good". Here and now. 😎🌴🎹

Mike, in my unprofessional opinion, you excel at blues and rock-n-roll and especially improvisation which takes real skill and years of experience which you have! I love when you improvise.....my fav of yours though is the walking bass....No one, Not even some of the great organists out there can do what you do on the bass/pedals.....You really are a treasure buddy! Dare I say a real "groovy" guy....lol....I thank you again for your gift to us...I wish you would put out a tip jar (Patreon) cause many of us would like to show you in a tangible way how much we appreciate your enjoyable music.....You can really groove buddy!!! Boy, that takes me back to when I used to play that on organs a lot like his, including the pipe organ in the Hughes Hall practice room at the OSU School of Music.
Nicely done. I was a Lowrey artist in the 1970's. That's a nice vintage Hammond and you do it justice.
