    I've got a couple of these, they are great sharpeners. With a little practice it'll make most any blade sharp enough, and I think that's the goal of a good pack sharpener. You can use some wet/dry sand paper and strop once you're done with the fine side. Start at 1000 grit and work up however high you want. That combo will make a knife really sharp. It will even work well on hatchets and machetes.

    I like the sharpener but I don’t know if I would trust the case holding the stone in upside down with the hole and Paracord.

      Fair point, and the cool part is you don’t have too. You can always play it safe

    I am thinking to buy this. Nice demo. I use Work Sharp field sharpener with 20 degree angle guide. I think after using this sharpener you need to hone and strop it as well. Please let em know what do you think?

      That’s absolutely a fair point. Especially if your using it in a real off grid environment I absolutely agree. Like you mentioned this was just a quick demo to show what it can do.

      @@Javajavajav Thank you so much. Now I am convinced. I appreciate your feedback.

      @@Javajavajav a little bit random to your point, but do you find lansky makes a lot better sharpening stones than they do a lot of their smaller folder knives? You can put a real nice edge on em but it doesn’t stay long enough to have a cup of tea with haha, also I find their lockouts awfully weak
      If you or anyone could tell me if you’ve had the same or different experience with them please let me know, just seems odd because otherwise seems like a very good brand

    So, I start with the coarse grit and how do I know I need to move on to the fine grit? Can you pls explain?

    • @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371
      @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Essentially the coarse grit you’re using will only sharpen the blade to a point (which you should be able to notice). Once that point is met you should switch to something more fine.

      I’m using a Kershaw Filter and the blade won’t get sharp when starting on the coarse side. I used the marker trick and it’s shaving off the blade that’s marked but still no luck. Any advice?

    • @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371
      @themyrtlewoodshomestead9371  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jaysonrivera4868 I would use another sharpener. If you are doing everything correctly then there might be a defect with the sharpener that you are using.

    • @marks101885
      @marks101885 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @jaysonrivera4868 the course side is only used to reset the edge or get nicks out of the blade. You will mostly use the fine side if your knife just needs a touch up.

    It almost sounds like every time you sharpen and re-hone an old knife you go out and "dispatch and harvest" a random animal just so you know that your knife is sharp enough for everything else; ie, everyday life ...haha I'm just giving you shit :P ...however, I think a more practical and less violent testing method is to get it sharp enough so that you are able to shave the hairs off your arm since razor sharp is almost as good as it gets. Anyways, thanks for the review and good luck with everything else.

      Everyone’s mileage is going to vary. I depend on the animals I raise and hunt to feed me and my family so the ability to have a tool on my person that can do that is important. For everyone else who depend on grocery stories it’s obviously not as important lol
      Thanks for watching!
