I think the Buck Chinese production knives are well made and can be found budget priced online. The blades are quite sharp new and sharpen easily, I have not had your issue with the steel. The 389 is not a fidget flicker or one hand model knife. It is a classic style, slip joint pocket knife for EDC, mild use, in the worldwide market. Buck makes cheap knives in China to compete with other Chinese made knives.

@NCMonitor I agree but the price would go up. I think Buck is concerned about sales numbers.
