    Hi Landpet! I think speeds are good enough in many mesh systems. I am more interested in overcoming signal degradation because of walls.... Setting aside wiring your whole house, what do you think is best? Powerline or top notch fancy Wif-Fi 7? Thanks

    • @marksapollo
      @marksapollo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would go with cables as WiFi 7 is totally new, this is literally one of the very first devices with it on sale. I think it needs a lot of work yet to be good, certainly wait for different males to launch models, also I don't think WiFi 7 specs have been finalised yet.

      The wireless backhaul speeds on this are next level; I did a demo in my previous video here: th-cam.com/video/y9fiQqi_egA/w-d-xo.html
      With that said, it really depends on your situation and your internet speeds. You can go through the power adapter, you can also use a MoCA device to go over Coax, both of these should work well but on wireless backhaul download speeds, you can get the full 5Gbps over wireless backhaul which is technically faster than MoCA 2.5 or any powerline adapter at least that I've seen, maybe there are faster ones now?

      One more thing, the problem with 1GbE ports or no faster (2x) pair of e.g. 2.5GbE or 10GbE is your local network especially if any traffic needs to be filtered though the router and not on a faster Switch. Hopefully, soon 2.5GbE ports will be the "norm" standard.

      You cannot separate the 2.4GHz from the 5GHz on any Deco I have tried, however you can separate the 6GHz, in fact you have to separate the 6GHz on every deco minus these new WiFi7 ones that have MLO. If you want options, ASUS lets you do just about anything including separating the SSID's for each band

    • @landpet
      @landpet  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@futurecactus You actually cannot separate the 2.4GHz from the 5GHz and have them both on at the same time which is what people are asking. The advanced section has three choices:
      1) 2.4GHz and 5GHz on at the same time
      2) 2.4GHz only
      3) 5GHz only
      If you select the 2.4GHz only, then only the 2.4GHz is On, the 5GHz is Off. Hence, that's not the same thing as what ASUS offers which allows you to create a different SSID for the 2.4 or the 5GHz.

      @@landpet Thank you for your guidance. I've purchased the device, but I'm concerned it may not actually Wifi 7. It appears more like utilizing the Wifi 6/6E technology, with enhancements in channel and frequency range. The device employs a novel approach to operate on multiple channels or frequencies simultaneously, aimed at boosting network speeds. However, I couldn't find an option to set up a dedicated Wifi 7 radio. Instead, it relies on Multi-Link Operation (MLO) , which amalgamates various wifi radios (2.4Ghz,5Ghz and 6Ghz) to enhance speed. This leads me to suspect that what they're marketing as 'Wifi 7' might just be an advanced form of Wifi 6/6E technology. If you did not turn on MLO, it will just be a normal Wifi 6E router.

    Can you do wired backhaul using the SFP+ ports on the satellite units to free up 10G ports?
    Fiber ONT to SFP+ on host Deco, 10G port on host to switch (or directly to SFP+ on satellite x 2), then switch Ethernet to SFP+ on each satellite?
    This would free up a 10G port on each satellite Deco. If going straight from the host to 2 satellite units, that would use up both 10G ports on the host but would free up 2 10G ports on the satellites so you would net one extra 10G

      Mine has no issues. Make sure there’s no other router that’s on. if you have a modem router combo, make sure you disable the router portion of that basically make sure this is the only router that you have running aside from your modem or ONT. I’ve done a set up video on the XE75, if you want to watch that for set up instructions it’s basically the same thing for this mesh system as it is for that

    I have a bit of an issue. My home is not pre-wired, but it's a large 2-story home around 3500SF. Currently I have an Orbi AX6000 with 2 satellites. Due to the layout of my house, I have to do a daisy chain layout with wireless backhaul. My main router is in my downstairs home office, the first satellite resides in the downstairs living room, and the last satellite is in the furthest corner of my home upstairs in our Playroom. I have 1GB internet service... By the time I get to my first satellite my download speeds are ~200-300GB, and my upstairs satellite is ~100-200MBPS.
    Would a device like this, albeit insanely expensive help my situation due to its range and strength of signal? I just feel like my AX6000 doesn't have a strong enough signal...

      Yes you can mix and match and deco product. You're not going to get as good of speeds as you would if you have 2 BE85's though because the BE85 has a much faster speed rating and WiFi 7 can take more advantage of wireless backhaul by using all the bands unlike the XE75.

    I have a question please. I currently have the xe75 pros setup on 1.5 internet. I do a speed test 6ft away from deco and I get 800+mbps on 5ghz but less than 30mbps on 2.4? The speed on 5ghz obviously eliminates the isp as the problem right? Why would I get such horrible 2.4 speeds? I think I should return these and get the BE95's cause I'm changing isp providers to 3up 3down anyway. But still...... why such bad 2.4 speeds? It's got to be the xe75 right?

    • @landpet
      @landpet  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      2.4GHz is designed for range not for speed. You would get slow speeds on any mesh system even this BE85.
      Phones, laptops, computers, etc connect through the 5GHz or 6GHz (for WiFi 6E or 7 devices) to get faster speeds with normal range.
      Simply put: 2.4 is slow speeds with great range
      5GHz is for good speeds with normal range
      6GHz is for faster speeds with even less range.
      WiFi 7 devices that connect to WiFi 7 routers are able to connect through more than one frequency at a time. WiFi 6E and below can only connect through one band frequency

    Regarding an Access Point mode use case, this is actually a really nice/must have feature when you want to have a standalone hardware Firewall in router mode which would go between your ISP's modem/ONT and your Mesh. Like the Firewalla Gold Plus, which is awesome, maybe a bit overwhelming as it requires you to become almost a full-time sysadmin at home*
    *that's the reason I ended not keeping it even though it is really nice

Note that I am using Optimum/Altice and Verizon fiber for the Internet. I had stability issue with Optimum which was not ideal with 2 people working from home full time. Who do you think should go for the be95 instead of the 85?

      The BE95 in theory should have better wireless backhaul speeds based on its speed rating however this thing is already so fast. If you have a 10Gbps LAN and you're planning on running wireless backhaul, I would opt for the BE95 but I haven't tested the BE95 so just guessing based on its specs.

    I just want gb internet with the absolute best range possible.

    • @landpet
      @landpet  ปีที่แล้ว

      This definitely fits the bill but you can get something less expensive that will get close to this in terms of performance since you're being capped to Gig speeds anyways

      @@landpet what's better value. Range is really my more important factor. I won't have over gb for a long time.

      @@timmasters4893 This has the best range so far that I've tested. The ASUS ET12 Pro also had really good range. The XE75 Pro was not too bad considering the price

      Range is the strength of mesh, just add more mesh nodes though I believe they don't recommend more than 3 from the router but that's a lot of range, after that you can add 60Ghz wireless bridges leading to more mesh nodes for greater ranges if you need to go further across large properties, so long as you have line of sight.
