What a beautiful scene between them! He finally understood the great woman he has! And he always loved her and admired her but never able to pass the fact she was part of a system he refused!!! Such an amazing relationship!
these 2 are amazing together, I haven't seen such chemistry in quite a while. Edit: I just realized, after watching this scene for the 50th time that it is a parallel to a scene in the first episode when she asks him to allow her to share his burdens and he refuses. She gives the same offer here and he finally says yes, letting her love him and allowing himself to love her. You can literally see him finally giving in to her after he kisses her hand, in that click of the tongue and sigh before he kisses her, the slight rubbing of the nose after the kiss, his look of hope and slight smile. I don't know if I'm reading way too much into this, but with how subtle and intricate Richard's acting is, I think it might be pertinent.
I interpreted this scene in exactly the same way… his sigh is almost a resignation and relief at finally accepting what we’ve known all along, he loves her and he’s done resisting this Truth. I also see it as a bit of regret, because now he sees clearly that her love/ this level of support was right in front of him the whole time and he took it for granted. Richard is soooo expressive with his face, he gave us clues throughout the series of what Cosimo was thinking/feeling on the inside, even though words were often not spoken. Their chemistry as actors is unmatched ! They are perfectly paired in their acting ability.
