- In this video I demonstrate how I taught Harlow to tug on command, and then how to transition this to opening a door. Lastly I'll show y'all how to teach your dog to close the door with their nose, meaning no scratch marks!
I taught my dog to open doors and he lets himself outside in the yard all the time by himself. He then gets stuck in the yard because he can't open the door from the outside so he sits there like a little goon waiting for me to realize he locked himself out so I can open the door. He also has learned to open bathroom doors on his own (our house is very old and the bathrooms have broken locks) and barges in on People, especially guests.
Came back to this video to start training my SDiT to do this. choked up a little. I so miss your videos Jackie, you were a light in a tough world.
Can you help me to teach my dog in opening the door? The problem to my dog is she's just biting the rope and play with it, no tug at all, but everytime she plays the rope, i'm rewarding her to let her know that I appreciate her little effort. What should I do? Any advice or tips? She's a 7 month old Shih Tzu.
I taught my puppy how to do this (: it only took her 40 minutes - 1 hour of practice to really understand. It really comes in hand because she always walks into my mothers room and traps herself inside. Thank you (:
Harlow is such a blessing, I'm here from her Instagram, she's such a good helper!!
Omg when your dog smiled when you said he was the best dog in the world
That adorable nose push straight into the camera made me smile.

Only 3 years later... Such an immense loss...
I installed a door door and instead of a door knob, I have a rope toy on my door. I have quite a few dogs in my small room and I wanted to teach them to open and close the door as they please

skrilllax fan tecno it took her dog a week to learn this
I have a pit mix and I just taught him this. He's not completely ahold of it but it only took him about an hour.
How do you teach them to open and close a room door when they are in the hall wanting to get into the room or leaving the room?
I love your instagram and these videos!! Can you please do a video on how you taught Harlow how to go under chairs and come out from the same one?

It's not that easy. You're lucky because your dog is tugging the rope, the problem to my dog is she's just biting the rope and play with it, no tug at all, but everytime she plays the rope, i'm rewarding her to let her know that I appreciate her little effort. What should I do? Any advice or tips? She's a 7 month old Shih Tzu.
Hello I’m trying to teach my 2 year old beagle to close the door put she will only gently tap the door not enough to move it how could I get her to move it more?
Question: my dog doesn’t wAnt anything to do with toys and not even a rope toy or anything how do I get her to open stuff if she won’t even put the rope in her mouth or show any interest in it??
so i want my pup to be able to come in my room if the door is closed but my door opens in so?? help
Do you have a email I could contact you at? I just got a service dog and I have some questions about how you trained Harlow and worked with her!
My question is this: I live in a trailer and the doors open outward not inward. So what do you suggest on teaching for that?
You could teach them to pull the door closed.
Do the tug command but teach it so she pulls outwards.
Nice! I'll use it with my baby german sheper...Kisses, M

Nice clear and concise video. Check out Dr Dobias for great vet info on caring for your dog, he has helped me with my rescues. I am inspired to consider a service dog for myself.
