Thank you for this tutorial, i did try it but still had some issues. But i have a new idea. I call it +x. Just make a + from foundation as large as you want to have the final structure (7/7 will make a 3 edged octo). Then from one edge go 2 walls up. Add a ceiling, go one left or right, drop a pillar, use your method once, add another 2 ceilings, put a wall on the outside and drop a foundation, make the x. I did not finish the x yet but maybe it will work and you will have just 1 degree of misalignment.
Genius. Can't wait to try this out on my planned build. I have been trying to make a proper octagon for ages. Thank you for sharing.

@@Fresonis I will try but it's meant to be a pvp alpha base so I doubt it will be as creative as a lot of the builds I have seen there.
@@jasongongwer5756 no worries, its still a baseand nice tobsee what people build. Just mention its yiur pvp base. Its a hell a lot more creative than the standard box designs you see in pvp

Tried building octagons a few times. What I came up with is that first I follow your guide to make the base octagon. Then use the pillars as snappoints for foundations. This will create an inperfect octacon to which you could snap a perfect one from foundations if you could do that. But to pass by this you can lower some foundations and use those to snap. Also you can use those for electric cables and generator placements. After that at the corners I snap a fence foudnation and snap pillars, then ceilings on top. This way your walls will all be on the same level and you have nice pillars at the 8 corners. Thenjust fill up the rest with foundations and cower the gaps you have with ceilings or lowered foundations.
Thanks for the video, my questions is if I want to make it bigger, what should I place? You are doing thatch>wood>thatch>stone>thatch>wood>thatch>stone...and so on. If i want to make it 4 or 5 ceiling wide at each corner what should i be using?
instead of using 1 ceiling of each, you can extend with for example connect 4 thatch ceilings, before you place the stone one to go into the other angle of the circle. or you can connect more wood or stone ceilings, but they will cost more. the method stays the same, just extend with 1 of the ceilings
Nice to see this refined! Fresonis, I’d love to pick your brain about how to build these structures, as I’ve made quite a few tower versions of this (30 blocks high.)
I’m curious if you have pursued the tower method and how you ended up designing a way up and down while maintaining an effective amount of floor space.
Does this work on mobile? I don’t think I can do the thing where you place another kind of ceiling and it replaces the other. How would you do this with a larger octagon? I also don’t think your pillar trick works on mobile either
Fresonis there is a good way to not have pillar nubs in the build by placing the initial pillar directly in the middle of the ceiling tile then placing the next pillar underneath it at its lowest snap point, then once it's connected all the way down to the floor you can demo the top pillar and be nubless.
It has to be in order of ceiling material used? Thatch ceiling, wood ceiling, thatch ceiling, stone ceiling and again?

If you do this shape with celings you can actually do the circle from two directions. That will make the celings only rise or be lowered by 50%. 😊

you could also make foundations and place the fencefoundations vertical to get the octagon, anyway i really like how indepth this video was, it really bothers me how they are not at the same height since walls and all that gets placed to high and its just messy, i hope they make it easyer to make octagons in the future, or add s+ stuff to the game
how to place a fence foundation vertical? I don't get that part. yea I hope they add S+ like they said they will add it

If yoy put the fence foundation on the outside on the square then do the diagonal stone will have a perfect fit

A question which pattern I should follow if I want 4 celling wide please reply.
Just do the same as with 2 ceilings wide, but then make it 4 ceilings wide.
The important thing it the connections in the corners, they make the difference and make it flush. So the corner pieces you follow the pattern of the video, then extend with whatevee you want and then again corner like in the video

It's nice that you gave the great GG fizz credit on this one but perhaps it would have been nice to also give credit to the originator of the lowering technique (eighths, which are in fact tenths) used at 10:14?
I couldn't remember where I had seen that lowering trick since I know it now for a long long time, so many tricks out there and after playing the game for more than 2 years I don't keep track of where I learned something from. I gave GG Fizz credit because I used his tutorial to check this method for research I did in the 2 days I tested stuff out, but it could have been many other people as well, since there are tons of tutorials on the internet about octagons.

yea the wide of each side doesnt matter, its all about those corner connections

I'm shocked he didn't figure this out. In order to make ANY of them almost completely flush using the same material all you have to do is make half of it going one way and then the other half going the other way. The result is that you get one whole side slightly higher but each individual new section is only one increment higher. When you go in only one direction, all 8 increments stack all the way until you get back to where you started and that's where you see the gap. When you build clockwise half way and counter clockwise halfway, when they meet they're at the same height because they've both been elevated by 4 increments and where you started doesn't have a gap.
but still you have a big difference between where you start and where you end, even if you go half a circle. at the start it will be "flush" and at the end (half way) it would be flush, but in between the difference is more than the difference I creature between each of them.

Fresonis ik kan die foundations niet onder de ceiling krijgen met een 1 wijd met 2 wijd werkt alles perfect zoals in de video maar met 1 wijd krijg ik de foundations er niet onder kun je me hiermee misschien helpen
Strange it works woth 2 wide but not woth 1. What does it say when you want to place them? It might be that the pillars intervene with the foundations. Preventing them to be placed. You can try connect a ceiling outwards and place the pillar there. So there is room for a foundation. Or place the foundation outwards and later snap one to it where the ceiling is

you doing too much work if you do start with a simple square and take foundations I make the shape and then Add pillars to the corners of the fence foundations and then add walls on top and bottom you can remove the ceiling tiles and replace them inside the tower and you have your octagon shape all level and with one material

i'm sorry if this is gonna sound rude but this video was a waste of time. GGFizz already made a tutorial video on how this can be made. As for the foundation octagon, what's the point in showing it, if it can't be done on official servers?
Chaos Knight Fizz showed the technique, but that didn't gave a flush octagan. This video is for the people that want a flush octagan whatever the material is they want it to be made of. There are plenty of people that don't play on official, so they can use the foundation trick. I'm not here to make only videos for official players ;)
If they aren't playing on official, odds are they have structure plus active. Making this guide even more pointless.
